Baker-Pasma Families - Livin’ For the Call

Producer:  Les Butler
Label:  Independent Release
Website:  www.bakerpasma.com

Southern Gospel Music has always boasted unique family groups, but I don't think I've ever come across one quite as unique as the Baker-Pasma Families.  At the head of this group are 2 couples, Dale & Ginger Pasma and Randy & Dawn Baker, whose respective children take active roles in the group, and quite possibly making this the largest group on the road today with 13 performing members.  Before I had even listened to this CD, I had decided that I wasn't going to like it.  I figured…WAY too many people.  But by the time the chorus came around on the first song, "GRACE STEPS IN", I was sold!  Featuring the oldest daughters in a female quartet, these ladies are the stars of this group.  They are simply amazing.  They also sing the next song, "LET IT FALL".

Written by Randy Baker, "IN EVERYTHING GIVE THANKS" is a cool upbeat tune that pretty much features everyone.  Featuring a cool piano and sax track, I lost count halfway through the song, but I think just about all the kids have a line in the song before the 4 girls step back up to sing, "YOU DID IT ANYWAY".

"BURDENS WILL ROLL" and "ONE MORE TIME" (recently recorded by Ricky Atkinson & Compassion) feature the moms and dads, and they do a good job before the girls step back up for "LIVIN' FOR THE CALL" (which was also recorded by Testify a couple of years ago).

Featuring a western swing, "NEVER BE THE SAME" is a fun tune the features the kids along with mom and dad before allowing the older girls to step back up and sing the beautiful "I WILL CARRY YOU".  The younger kids get their chance with "YOU CAN START ALL OVER AGAIN" (which also features a few lines by Paul Lancaster)before things move on to the upbeat "HE'LL FINISH THE JOB".

Featuring the parents, the medium tempo "DESIRE OF ANGELS" is another Baker penned tune, which also features the kids on the chorus (No need for stacked vocals here!) before things move on to the uptempo, "THE OTHER SIDE".  Rounding out the recording is the power ballad, "WHERE WOULD I BE".

The oldest girls really show some awesome potential as a female quartet.  I'd love to hear these ladies in a couple of years with their own full CD.  The youngest kids sing pretty good as well, as do mom and dad, but this group's strongest suite are the oldest girls.

It was neat hearing the different configurations of the group sing.  There are 3-4 different groups within this one large entourage.  As far as the recording goes, the music tracks are first rate and song selection is good.  I will admit, it does tend to get bogged down, in my opinion, with too many singers, but they do manage to pull it all off pretty well.

Personal Favs: GRACE STEPS IN; IN EVERYTHING GIVE THANKS; ONE MORE TIME; I WILL CARRY YOU; WHERE WOULD I BE

4/5/06 This CD is one of my favorites! The songs contain powerful words about God's grace and care. The beautiful harmonization amongst the group members is a beautiful gift from God! It's refreshing to hear younger voices singing southern gospel music.

The CD Livin` for the Call is awesome. I praise God for the words and the talent that has gone into this CD. It is good to hear "good" Christain music. The words have touched my heart when I have had some low days. Thanks you Jesus for Christain morals and talent.

I grew up enjoying the Gaithers and Cathedrals. If you like the Homecoming concerts - and the variety of singing styles in one concert/album you can't beat the Baker/Pasma group! James Hales review is right - with this album you enjoy 3-4 high quality groups. I'm a Baker - so I'm biased, but you will be too after youl take a listen! C Baker

I love this CD. I am 10 years old and love to hear songs about Jesus and his grace. Our family tries to go to every BakerPasma concert we can. My favorite song is I Will Carry You sung by Arielle.

I love this C.D. I think it is very appealing to all ages. We are in our retirement years and the words of these songs really minister to us. The variety of music keeps your interest. I would recommend it to everyone.

We love the variety of music on this CD. The songs range from Southern Gospel to a little contemporary. Some songs are sung by adults and others by children. Each time a new song is played we are ministered to in a different way!

Thanks for all the nice comments. We appreciate the great producing talent of Les Butler which allowed our first major project to be such a success. It is truly a joy to be able to sing praises to the Lord with our entire families! Not only are we blest with a "full quiver", but our "quiver" loves to sing as a thankful response to what God has done for us!
