Meet Gus Gaches

Last month I introduced you to Stacy Bragg who sings bass for us. This month, I'd like to go to the extreme other end of our vocal line up and introduce you to what I believe is one of, if not the best tenor in gospel music. His name is Gus Gaches. Now we hear a lot of people mispronounce his last name, so just to clarify, it sounds like Gaishes. For those of you who don't know Gus, he is one of the most sought after back up vocalists in Nashville. He is also known for his engineering, editing, production and mixing abilities. He owns the Vox Box recording studio which is primarily a studio where people record their vocals. The artists who have recorded there and who Gus has worked for are too many to mention, but I will tell you that besides The Whisnants and Booth Brothers, The LeFevre Quartet has 3 recordings to date, all done at Gus' place!

imageGus has been with us for nearly 2 years and night after night, he absolutely blows me away with his singing. Southern Gospel Music has many tenor singers, but few that can sing the part naturally and as flawlessly as Gus Gaches. No squeeky, weird, nonhuman sounds come from this guy, just an incredible, natural vocal that interprets a song like few can. One of my favoriite songs on our new Canaan Records release, "Nothin' But Good", is a song called, "You're Never Too Far Away" that features Gus. If you are a fan of not just tenor singing, but great singing in general, you have to hear it!

Although the group is based out of Gainesville, GA, Gus lives in Goodlettsville, TN, just north of Nashville. Here is a little known fact about Gus. He is a huge hockey fan. He follows the Nashville Predators and is a season ticket holder. If you are shy and you're not sure how to start a conversation with Gus, just say, "How about those Preds". You will quickly find yourself in a very deep conversation and Gus will have made a new friend for life.

Gus has a beautiful wife named Tamara. Few people know this about Gus' wife.....she sees dead people. She works at a cemetary in Springfield, TN. They have two children, Gus who is 16 and Kylee who is 11. Little Gus is starting to drive, so please keep them in your prayers. The next time you are at a LeFevre Quartet concert, go up to Gus and introduce yourself. You will find that he is as genuine and real off stage as he is when he's up there singing his heart out.
