The Freemans

History, experience and spiritual wisdom are three attributes that can be used to describe the foundation of the Freeman ministry. Deeply rooted with family, the Freemans experience spans 30+ years. From Darrell’s entrance at age 16 with his family’s group, the Pathways, to Chris’s award-winning teenage years with the Hinsons, the Freemans know the ins and outs of Southern Gospel music.

I know that the Freemans formed from a couple of groups, how did the Freemans get together and whose idea was it?

I married the Boss..I sang with the Hinsons for 7 years and Darrell sang with his family. When his mom and dad retired from the road, we bought them out and just continued on.

How many family members do you have tied into the Freemans? What
does each one do?

There is Joe who is Darrell's 1st cousin, he sings and plays the keyboard. Misty, our daughter, sings and plays the guitar. Caylon, our son, is our drummer and is also singing now. Darrell is the bass guitar player and also sings.  I just sing.

Describe for us the style of the Freemans.

Some say on the country side.  We feel it is southern style. Misty does some bluegrass, so it's hard to say. We hope it's Heart Felt!

The Freemans recordings are excellent, but when you hit the stage there is a completely different level of excitement. What makes the Freemans such an exciting "on stage" group?

Well we do have live music, We feel we have confidence in what we are about to do. Most important, we try to always pray before we go on stage. We know who the real STAR is and why we are there.

What is different about the Freemans from other family groups?

I don't know if there is a difference. I do know that we feel blessed that we are together day in and day out. I know it is a sacrifice for Misty to go on the road each week and have to leave her NEW husband home and also Joe, leaves two boys and a wife each week. But they are faithful in what they do for the Lord, and they know God has and will always be faithful to them.

It seems that almost each member of the Freemans has been through some real hard times in the past year or two. What has brought you through these difficult times? How has it changed your ministry?

Jesus is our strength and our refuge. We all have hard times and will always have them. Some harder than others. A lot of times we must witness these things in order to be able to understand what people are going through. I guess you could say lows never equal the highs as long as we have Jesus!

You've taken on new management in the past year. Is this something new for you? How is it different for you?

It is always good to have someone else in your corner. They can look at you from a different view and help develop some new and different things that you may not be able to do or see for yourself. This is a Ministry, but also it is a business too. It has always been hard for us to toot our own horn. So we will let Rick and the company do it for us...

Is there anything new in the future that we can expect from the Freemans?

Well we do have a few things going on. Misty will be wrapping up her new CD. I'm coming out with my 1st solo CD, and Misty and I have a new praise and worship project we are putting together. Also I'm trying to finish my book that I've been working on for the past 3 or 4 years (that's another story) our plate is full and that's the way we like it, and there's always room for more.........

Thanks for featuring one of my favorite groups. The Freemans are uniquely talented individually but together they are the perfect blend. It's a blessing to own most of their albums.
