The Booth Brothers

Things seem to just be getting better and better for the Booth Brothers. After spending the last year traveling the Gaither circuit, which means singing in front of hundreds of thousands of people, the group recently signed a recording contract with one of the top record labels in the industry, Spring Hill Music Group, home to such artists as Karen Peck & New River, The Hoppers, The Martins, Janet Paschal, and more.

Stepping back in time, the Booth Brothers started out using music as an escape from their father?s former addiction to alcohol. The addiction in their family made from the need to escape into other realities, which for the brothers Booth meant anything musical.

"I loved my dad and we knew he loved us, but I didn't want to be around him," remembers Ronnie Booth. "There was so much conflict all of the time. You just wanted to stay away."

Ronnie started singing in choirs at school and church and began to gain influences from multiple genres, including pop, rock, gospel and many more. Michael Booth began playing drums, including becoming a very talented jazz drummer during his college years.

With their pastor by their side, the Booth boys confronted their father, and he immediately received help from a Christian run organization in Virginia. In 1990, The Booth Brothers, the southern gospel trio, was born. Michael and Ronnie began traveling with their transformed father, Ron. After Ron retired from the group, the brothers went through many talented singers until they settled in with their current baritone, Jim Brady.

Now, in this next chapter of their career, the Booth Brothers are riding a wave to the top. Their latest Spring Hill offering can do nothing more than catapult them to the upper echelons of the industry. The future is bright for the Booth Brothers.

image Their latest CD, due in stores this month, sees the group stretching themselves musically, while at the same time settling down into a sound all their own. In fact, adding newest member Jim Brady to the line up enhanced the group even more as Jim did a good portion of songwriting for the new record. Infusing unforgettable harmonies and catchy southern hooks, the new self titled CD is a hybrid of the traditional and progressive

Good article, but don't forget how important Mosie Lister has been to this group. Mosie did many of their very first arrangements and continues to do many of them today. They also got their start at the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion in Greenville, SC. Had it not been for Charlie Waller, who knows how things might've been for them. Bill Gaither can definitely be a credit to their much increasing popularity, but you always give credit to the ones who gave you that big boost. Just thought I'd add a little info! grin

By the way, I just played the "Under God" sound clip. What can I say? These guys are going places! Greater Vision better watch it!

Let's not forget to give major credit to Nick Bruno who has arranged and produced all the Booth Brothers recordings. Nick is a genius and has been a major contributor to defining the Booth Brothers sound. The Booth Brothers rock!

Of course Mosie Lister has been important to the Booth Brothers, he's related to them by marriage. This article was about the Booth Brothers, not about the people who might have helped them get there.

Geez Deon -- chill out. Alan was just trying to make a point (as did another poster who wasn't upbraided).

It's a good article, I enjoyed it. I particularly liked the sound clip and look forward to the new album.

What's to chill, can't everyone just make their own point without being pointed to? Didn't see any upbraiding here till now.

Just trivial info that I thought some people might find interesting, Deon. I wasn't trying to ruffle any feathers. And by the way, Mosie began arranging material for them long before he married into the family. I still think Chris did a fine article.

Thanks for that little addition Mr. Gurnett. I about forgot that!

I just heard their new CD for the first time today. Believe me when I say this is top of the line. It's getting one of my rare 5 Star ratings, only the third one I've given so far this year.

What a honor it was to travel and sing with the Booth Brothers uncle, the late Charles Booth during the last few years of his life. There were times we would get together with Ron, Sr. and sing, what an experience! Charles and Ron were and are true professionals and have taught the boys well. I count it an honor to be friends with such a wonderful musical family. The Booth Brothers is a name that will go down in gospel music history as one of the greatest groups to ever walk the gospel music stage!

Hi guys. I had no idea so many people knew so much about us. I want to say thank you for all of the kind words about the Booth Brothers. Three things I would like to clear up about the article here and the one in US Gospel News though: first, the information gives the impression that Dad was a jerk 24/7 and that is just not true. There were times in the afternoon when we just stayed away and it was those times we dove into music. There were also many times late at night we (Dad, Ronnie and I) would listen to hours of music of all kinds and these were wonderful times. Second, we didn't have MANY singers come through. After Dad came off the road (Nov 98), Uncle Charles filled in for 6 months until Joseph Smith joined (April 7, I think). Joseph stayed through the real hard times until he left in May 2002. Dad filled in at that time until our providential meeting up with Greg -- no, I mean Jim Brady. Sorry, I was thinking of 70s sitcoms. Third, it is important to know that Dad initiated going to Elim Home. Ronnie, our pastor and I merely drove him up to Lynchburg Va. Let me say that I speak for all of us when I say that we DO appreciate the coverage we have received from both of these publications, however.
As gospel music ministers we feel a tremendous responsibility to make music worthy of the One we sing about. When we find a song that works for us we try to find the best sound and feel to get all of the intent and emotion possible out of the song. Our goal is not style but strictly substance and emotion.
Thanks, Chris, for the positive review. I agree that Steps would have been more effective if it had been put at the end of the cd; however, I think that Spring Hill did an excellent job in the rest of the song placement. I know that a lot of effort was put into making those choices by the professional Spring Hill marketing team, and I am grateful for their expertise. Thank you again for all of your kind words and this FANtastic website
