2500 Fans Make Freedom Block Party a Success

Union Hill Baptist Church in Oak Grove, Alabama put on one of the last Independence Day celebrations of the weekend.

“It is awesome. God's blessed us with some great weather; people showed up for the event. We just wanted people to know that freedom's not just about independence in our country, that we also have freedom of Jesus Christ," says Union Hill Pastor Mickey Bell.

2500+ fans filled the lawns at Oak Grove Memorial Park, former sight of Oak Grove High School where a devastating tornado destroyed the school in 1998. Concert goers enjoyed the sounds of New Ground and Michael English.

Bell says the event wasn't just for the Union Hill congregation, "A lot of other churches, a lot of other businesses and people have come to help us with this event, so we're very thankful for them, because without them we couldn't do it."

Bell not only worked to put the event together, he also jumped on stage with Scottsboro, Alabama's New Ground.

This was a great event. I really enjoyed hearing New Ground and Michael English...and who was that cute guy playing the keyboard? lol
The weather was perfect and we still had food and drinks left over which was surprising as hot as it was before the sun went down. It was awesome to see how God moved that night.
and if you left before the fireworks....you missed a great show.

I really enjoyed the freedom block party. It was a lot of hard work, but it was worth it - especially to see our preacher up there playing the keyboard. He has been holding out on us. New Ground was phenomonal and Michael English's testimony was great also. God is really moving in our area and we are looking for a spiritual explosion.

The Freedom block party was a huge success. People came for so many different reasons. Some of those being Michael English, fireworks, free food and games...but I think after hearing the beautiful sound from New Ground they left filled with the awesomeness of our Lord.

The Freedom Block Party was an awesome event. We were blessed to have so many talented people to perform for not only the communities that came together to celebrate our freedom, but to praise God for all His had done for us. I can’t say enough about New Ground; they were great and a blessing. The quartet from Oak Grove was a joy not only to listen to but also to know that they have a wonderful future ahead of them. Michael English with his music and his testimony – what more can you say. But I have to mention our home church talent – John Chandler and Bro. Mickey Bell – John has an awesome voice and Bro. Mickey’s piano playing surprised all. Thanks to everyone who made this event a success.
