The Booth Brothers Named 2009’s Big Winner
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The 2009 SGN Music Awards were handed out last night at a special concert celebration in Smyrna, Tennessee to a capacity crowd. The Booth Brothers were the big winners of the night - winning five awards. The group took home their second award for Album of the Year for the critically acclaimed Room For More project. That album was also awarded Progressive Southern Album of the Year. The group was also awarded Male Group of the Year and Best Live Performer. In addition, Michael Booth was awarded Male Vocalist of the Year.
Mike & Kelly Bowling won three awards. The group’s #1 hit “Your Cries Have Awoken the Master” was awarded Song of the Year and Progressive Southern Song of the Year. The trio’s debut recording, Faith to Believe, also won Country/Bluegrass Album of the Year.
Songwriting siblings Becky & Sonya Isaacs also won three awards over the course of the evening – including Songwriter of the Year (Artist). The sisters also took home two more awards for writing the Mike & Kelly Bowling song “Your Cries Have Awoken the Master.”
The coveted Pacesetter Award was handed to the National Quartet Convention – Southern Gospel music’s premier concert experience.
“With the additions that the Board of Directors of the National Quartet Convention made last year, they became an easy choice for the fans when choosing this year’s Pacesetter,” mentioned Deon Unthank, administrator of SoGospelNews.com. “It is a significant feat for an organization to span over 50 years and still be a fan favorite.”
Several artists and individuals were awarded two Ovations last night, including Karen Peck & New River who won the group’s first ever Mixed Group of the Year award as well as Country/Bluegrass Song of the Year for their #1 hit “Hey.” Kim Collingsworth won her second Musician of the Year award (she previously won the award in 2006) and Special-Event Project of the Year (for the Personal DVD). Songwriter/Producer Barry Weeks also won two awards for his production work on the Booth Brothers’ Room For More recording. The Talley Trio took home two awards as well, including Female Vocalist of the Year (for Lauren Talley) and Producer of the Year (Artist) (for Roger Talley).
The event was hosted by Michael Booth and Lauren Talley. The evening featured resounding performances from the Booth Brothers, Karen Peck & New River, The Perrys, Crabb Revival, Mike & Kelly Bowling, Misty Freeman, HisSong, Lauren Talley, Eighth Day, Perry Sisters, Tribute Quartet, and Kim Collingsworth.
In addition, Johnny Minick, Sunday Edition, and studio-vocalist Toni Clay were featured in a special musical tribute to Dottie Rambo.
“We are so thrilled with how this year’s event turned out,” mentioned Deon Unthank. “God just keeps blessing this event every year!”
The SGN Music Awards are an annual award handed out each year by the staff at SoGospelNews.com. Each January, the staff decides upon the nominees in over twenty categories. In February of that year, the readers of the site are then allowed to vote for their favorites. This is the eighth year the awards have been in existence.
The official sponsors for the 2009 SGN Music Awards Celebration were Southern Spin Entertainment, Worthington Music Group, and loan officer Bev McCann.
