This is my top ten picks for my favorite CDs of the year 2002.
All of these were produced in this past year. I must admit that there were some CDs released late last year that got a lot of radio play this year, but these picks are solely from 2002 releases.
Coming in at # 10 is The Nelons - "United For Christ". I really liked the way they went back and found that "old" Nelons sound. It's just a hair progressive, but I really like it.
Moving on to # 9 would be The Carolina Boys Quartet - "Good News". I believe that this release is a cut above anything that they have done in the past few years (even though they were known as The Kingsmen then).
Skipping in at # 8 is The Hoskins Family - "Safe Thus Far". I think that switching to Daywind Records where they now work with Wayne Haun was a brilliant move on their part. Wayne brought things out of them on this CD that even they didn't know they had in them.
It was a bit different for them featuring Russ Taff so much, but sneaking in at #7 is The Gaither Vocal - "Everything Good". You either love Russ or you can't stand his voice and Bill pushed the envelope featuring Russ so much, but it really grows on you.
Palmetto State Quartet left their comfortable zone by performing some pretty progressive material on "There's Something Going On", but it made for a wonderful sound on the CD. They grabbed # 6.
Coming in at the mid way point, the end of the year release by The Journeymen Quartet - "We Will Not Fail" is one fantastic CD. The title song alone is worth the price of the CD. They took # 5
Making great strides in their sound, Zion Recording artists The Crossmen held me in awe as I listened to their CD "He Is Leading". This is a big league sound. Who would have thought that they would come in at # 4?
It's no surprise that this mixed group puts out great projects all the time, and The Hoppers snatched # 3 with - "Steppin" Out". There are some powerful songs on this CD. I can see three or four radio hits from this project.
Showing that they didn't miss a lick by adding Daniel Riley to the Baritone spot, Gold City sneaks into # 2 with "Campmeetin" ?. These guys show how it was once done, as well as how it should be performed today. Quality all the way is what you get with this CD.
With the drums rolling, my # 1 pick is - " The Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet - "The Return". These guys proved that you don't have to be in Southern Gospel Music for fifty years before you can put out some great music. There is nothing but high energy from the beginning to the end of this project. My hat is off to the efforts of Daywind to make this group one hot item.
There you have it. You can agree or not, but these are MY favorite picks for 2002.

These are some great picks Deon! I imagine it was hard to pick just 10 favorite CDs. 
Deon, I think the Crossmen are the most under-rated quartets out there! And a great bunch of fellas. Also think "This Stage of Grace" /Booth Brothers, Sonelite recording is out of this world!! But then you only had 10 to pick....(grin)

Deon, I think you made an excellent choice for your top ten. A majority of them was my favorite picks too! I love Journeymen's new album We Will Not Fail, I think it's their best yet. And The Hoskins' Safe Thus Far is absolutely fantastic!
