Well, the bells are ringing, the trees are decorated, carols are being sung and Wal-Mart has their swimsuits out…LOL. Ok, maybe not, but you can bet they will by January 2nd. As the old song says, “everywhere there’s a feeling of Christmas”. But, what if I’m not in the mood for Christmas? The presents aren’t bought. The cookies aren’t made. In fact at the moment the tree isn’t even up. Too bad, ready or not, here it comes; just like Christ’s birth all those years ago. The shepherds were taken by surprise. Mary and Joseph certainly weren’t ready. The wise men had been watching and anticipating, but they weren’t ready. The world just wasn’t ready for Jesus.
Is the world any more ready now? We’ve had 2000 plus years to get prepared and we seem further away than ever. The carols are about Santa, and the bells are being rung by a guy in a Santa suit smoking a cigarette holding the Salvation Army bucket outside Wal-Mart where they greet you with “Season’s Greetings” when you go in to buy the lights for your holiday tree…… Sometimes I think Charlie Brown said it best, “aaaaargh”.
Well, off of my soapbox and back to the point; are you ready? Not for Christmas, but for Christ. He’d coming again. Some will be taken completely by surprise, some are anticipating. What about you? Are you ready? It is the prayer of The Stutzman Family that each of you would have a safe, happy Christmas. But, most importantly that you know personally the Christ whose birth you are celebrating.
Merry Christmas!
