Things Are Not Always As They Seem

Life is full of things that are different than they seem.  A mystery if you will.  A caterpillar turns into a beautiful butterfly through a transition process.  An acorn through a different transition process becomes a huge oak tree.  And, the ugly duckling evolves into a beautiful swan.  All have one thing in common, there was a transition process.

Sometimes this transition process is cataclysmic, for example with Jonah in the belly of the whale.  Sometimes that transition is painful as with Samson.  And let us not forget Mary, though she was a virgin, was pregnant and bringing into this world the greatest birth of mankind. Certainly things were not as they seemed.

Truthfully things are not always as they seem in our business of Gospel Music.  Now, we have stacks on tracks that sound more like choirs than quartets or trios; keyboards that not only play piano sounds but nearly every other instrument imaginable; sound equipment that makes one sing on pitch even though they are not. Sometimes reality seems very far away from the now.  None of these things are necessarily wrong just different, and they often times produce things that are not as they seem.

Yet there is truly one constant, the Gospel that never changes and is always just as it seems.  Once a life is exposed to the gospel and is changed, that life is transformed in a moment.  So, may I take this opportunity to share from the hills of West Virginia what an old black preacher shared with me many years ago.  It is the simplicity of the gospel.

He was BORN for us
            He LIVED for us
            He DIED for us
            He ROSE for us
And one day he is COMING for us

Things are not always as they seem.  A king was BORN in poverty; LIVED a short life of some 33 years; DIED for us so the transition process could take place; ROSE for us when many thought his death was the end; and is COMING for those of us who are looking for him.

This Easter season let's continue to share the mysteries of the gospel with all who will listen.

Speaking of transitions, The Mystery Men would like to wish David Folenius success in his new endeavor wherever that my lead him, and in the same breath, welcome longtime friend of mine “The Voice” Mr. Steve Warren as the new lead singer for The Mystery Men Quartet.  Visit our blog on Myspace for more about Steve joining the Mystery Men.

Be listening for our new single, “Ready To Leave”, now playing on your favorite gospel radio station.  And watch the live video of “Ready To Leave”.
