Naomi & The Segos - Happy Ending
Producer: Wayne Haun/Kevin Ward Label: Vine Records Vine Records Vine Records Vine Records Vine Records Website: http://www.naomiandthesegos.org I cut my teeth on the music of the Sego Brothers & Naomi (as they used to be called). Their infectious campmeeting style never failed to draw me in. Even today, their music still deeply appeals to me. Anyone who knows anything about me knows what a fan I am of Vestal Goodman, and though Naomi never became the singer to me that Vestal was, I have always been intrigued and drawn in by Naomi. Naomi Sego is a true artist and a class act. There are few people that I would categorize as "classy", and Naomi is at the top when it comes to exemplifying true class, dignity and grace and a humble spirit that emanates from her, which can only come from her walk with the Lord. Though this may not be her last recording (I'm still not sure if she is definitely retiring or not), it is the epitome of a "Happy Ending" to a "Happy Journey". The big band infused "99 œ" gets things underway. Though it is something musically different for the group, it is still extremely reminiscent of the music that made them famous. I can see James (Naomi's first husband) and W.R. singing right along with Naomi, not missing a beat. Judson turns in a fantastic performance on "A LIFE ONCE LOST", a tremendous song penned by Joel Lindsay and Wayne Haun. In my mind, this song alone is the triumph of the recording; great message and excellent delivery from Judson. It truly was nice hearing some classic songs revived including a classic Sego song originally recorded in 1983 entitled, "WAKE THE TOWN" as well as the Dottie Rambo classic "HOW GRACIOUSLY GRACE HAS COVERED MY SIN", the Nelon's classic, "HAPPY ENDING" and the oft recorded, "I CAN'T EVEN WALK (WITHOUT YOU HOLDING MY HAND)", which features an excellent performance by Naomi, as well as a very nicely done string track. (Kudos to Wayne Haun) Other songs include "WALK AWAY FREE" (doesn't have the same punch as the Perry's version, but a nice job, nonetheless), "I KNOW THAT I KNOW", "I'LL ALWAYS HAVE A SONG" (a wonderful testimony song featuring Naomi) and "STILL STANDING" (which features another excellent feature by Judson). From a production standpoint, this is the best sounding recording that's come from Naomi in years. From a vocal standpoint, Naomi has never sounded better. The overall quality of the recording from the production, song selection, graphics and overall vocals make this the best recording Naomi & The Segos have released in over 20 years. I applaud Naomi for her years of service for the Kingdom and though you can never truly retire from a calling, should this indeed end up being her last, Naomi couldn't have done it any better as this recording is a wonderful tribute to a true legend. "99 1/2" is a great song....one of the best on the radio right now IMO. Who wrote it and when?

Apparently others have recorded it, but still unsure of the author. Recorded by both Diana Ross and Hezekiah Walker.
While I do consider 99 1/2 a pretty catchy melody, I'm a bit confused by the meaning of the song. Anybody know?

All the songs sound great to me! We are kinda biased toward Naomi. Our son Matt sang with her for a brief stint in 1999. We hope she is still singing when Jesus comes!

By the clip, I couldn't get enough to be sure, but, I am thinking that the meaning of 99 1/2 is that anything less than 100% is not enough.....
