Producer: Jeff Collins Label: Sonlite Records Website: http://www.crossroadsmusic.com I became a fan of Mitchel Jon the very instant I first heard him sing. His soulful voice exudes charisma and vitality and you just can't help but be taken in by his wonderful talent. He is one of those rare singers who have the ability to make you believe what he is singing about. Since his departure from Three Bridges, I've been anxiously awaiting his first national solo release, and it's finally here. Mitchel Jon's soulful vibe runs through just about everything he sings, and the songs that showcase that the best are "PEOPLE GET READY", "SOMETHING VISIBLE" and "POURIN' RAIN". Not that those are the only ones, but those tunes showcase that vibe the best. Even on the songs that are more true to Southern Gospel like "ON THE GROUNDS OF GRACE", "I'M REDEEMED" and "WHO'S GONNA MOVE THE STONE" give off a soulful flavor. One of the more unusual songs is the acapella tune, "JESUS GAVE ME WATER". Recorded several years ago in a similar fashion by Chronicle (aka-Kingsboys), Mitchel Jon puts his own spin on the song and turns in a good performance. I'm not sure if I would have singled the song to radio, it's a good, catchy song nonetheless. Phil Cross wrote a tremendous power ballad entitled, "YOU BACKED IT UP" and Mitchel Jon performs it flawlessly. I can easily see this song in the charts. It was a pleasure to hear Mitchel Jon turn in a solo rendition of his self penned tune, "WOUNDED IN THE HOUSE", which has a tremendous message. Featuring a slight country feel, the song was originally recorded a few years ago by Three Bridges, but Mitchel Jon's rendition has a more personal feel to it. The highlight of the recording is the Phil Cross/Paula Stefanovich penned, "HE IS MINE". I find myself hitting the repeat button with this song many times. Starting out slow, the song progresses to a soulful pace and crescendos to a fantastic finale of praise. I would love to see this song hit radio. I don't think there is anything Mitchel Jon can't sing, and sing it well. His talent is fresh and exciting, and over the course of the last few years, he has become one of my all-time favorite singers. This recording is a wonderful piece of work, and should yield him some new fans, while keeping his current fan base quite happy. Oddly enough, though this recording is great in everyway, I would have liked to have seen him be a bit more cutting edge, musically. I was waiting to be completely blown away; and though the final song did, I was expecting a bit more. But nonetheless, this is a powerful and exciting recording and truly whets the appetite for more.
