There are very few Southern Gospel quartets on the scene today that can release custom recordings and table projects that sound just as good as their mainline and major releases. Well folks, Brian Free & Assurance is one of those quartets.

Brian Free & Assurance have been walking the fine line between traditional and progressive with the release of the group's last two projects - It's So God and Real Faith - leaving fans of traditional music begging for a return to a more core Southern Gospel sound for the quartet. Well now fans of traditional Southern will rejoice with the release of Timeless Hymns & Classics, Vol. 2 - the follow up to the first installment which released a few years ago.

This new release kicks in where things left off on that last release, showcasing Brian Free & Assurance's stellar vocals and impressive arrangements - something not readily found on a side project like this. There's a little something for everyone here - including traditional quartet fare ("First Day In Heaven", "What a Beautiful Day", "Look For Me at Jesus' Feet"), classic songs ("He Looked Beyond My Fault", "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power"), and modern arrangements of older tunes ("John the Revelator" and "Mercy Built a Bridge"). Vocally, the group is still at the top of their game - and Brian Free gets a good amount of feature time - including a fantastic turn on "Sheltered In the Arms of God".

With this being a side project, the instrumental arrangements aren't the best we've heard, but they also don't shame the industry in anyway. The vocal arrangements remain pretty basic - which is expected on a release like this. Overall, fans of traditional quartet music who've not enjoyed recent Brian Free & Assurance releases ought to give this album a chance. It's traditional music from one of the industry's brightest stars.

Song List:

1. First Day In Heaven
2. What a Beautiful Day
3. Glory Road
4. He Looked Beyond My Fault
5. Mercy Built a Bridge
6. John the Revelator
7. Just a Little Talk With Jesus
8. The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power
9. Sheltered In the Arms of God
10. Look For Me at Jesus' Feet

Elaine Harcourt's avatar I just got this project & love it. Of course, I'm a dyed-in-the-wool BFA fan. I've only heard the first 4 songs so far but they are wonderful & I know the rest will be as well. Great follow-up to Vol. 1.

God is good all the time & all the time God is good.

I agree, it's a great cd. One of the best BF&A;have done in a while, and I, too, am a big fan.

Thanks for doing some traditional songs for some of us older fans.
