The Morgans - Somebody Paid
Producer: Billy Arnett Label: Independent Website: http://www.seethemorgans.com I recently had the opportunity to meet a wonderful family group from Foster, Kentucky, the Morgans. Dan Morgan is an evangelist and he and his family travels the country doing revivals and singing some great original songs, all from the pen of Dan Morgan. “Somebody Paid” is a patriotic song that reminds us that our freedom isn’t free and that somebody has to pay the price. This song features Dan on the lead vocals. He is also featured on “Please Tell Grandma”. This song is a song of a dream that asks the question of what happened to our nations morals that Grandma taught us years ago? The Morgans play a variety of instruments in their personal appearances including the basic piano, bass, drums and acoustic guitar. Dan adds the saxophone, harmonica and fiddle to the mix giving them musical variety. Dan plays his sax on “When Everything Goes Wrong” which also features his wife, Linda Morgan on the lead vocals. “Sing of the Old Rugged Cross” also features Linda Morgan. This is a pretty ballad with an evangelistic sound to it, more laid back and reverent. “The Best Thing About Heaven” is a cut time song with a country feel to it, featuring Linda once again. Dan has written a very different song about a four year old boy who was dying and trying to comfort his father. In this child’s mind, Heaven is made of gumdrops. “Gumdrop Heaven” will tug at your heart strings. “The Palm of His Hand” is a three quarter time song that picks the tempo up with a country feel to it. Dan’s voice fits this song well. “Only God” has a driving beat with some fuzzed out guitars on it. Charissa Morgan is featured on “Forever His”. This song is a moving song that speaks of the assurance that we who believe are indeed “Forever His”. “Say the Name of Jesus” is another ballad written by Dan that speaks of the power in the name of Jesus. This song is an excellent altar call song. “Lilies of the Field” has a more Praise and Worship feel to it with a driving bass guitar and drum beat. Linda takes the lead on this song. They close the project out with a pretty ballad, “Rose That Never Fades Away”. This is a love song to Jesus. The main focus of the Morgans is evangelistic. Their entire family unit travels in two buses preaching revivals and camp meetings across America. Preaching is their primary ministry but God has blessed them with musical abilities that enhance their meetings. There are some things on this project that could have been improved in the studio, but overall, it is a good project.
