It seems that over the last couple of years, the Kingsmen has been re-inventing themselves, and with positive results. This latest effort from the Kingsmen picks up where "Good, Good God" left off and continues to build on the foundation that was built with that recording.

The recording kicks off with the uptempo, radio friendly tune, "THE CLOUD HE'S COMING BACK ON". Recorded over 25 years by the Happy Goodmans, the Kingsmen put their own spin on the song and is a great way to kick things off before things move on to "FIGHT TO THE FINISH" (recently recorded by the Dills as well), which features a solid performance by tenor, Harold Reid.

Things slow down a bit for the country flavored and slightly unusual (for the Kingsmen anyway) "GOSPEL ROAD", which features Phillip Hughes. I can very easily see the Oak Ridge Boys doing this song, but the Kingsmen manage to pull it off pretty well. It's not one of my favorites, but it's neat to hear the Kingsmen tackle something outside the box. Another "outside the box" tune is found in the title song as Bryan Hutson superbly performs the 1980's Benny Hester classic, "WHEN GOD RAN". Also recently recorded by Mercy's Well, the Kingsmen really do a tremendous job on a song that I consider one of the greatest songs in all of Christian music.

Known for their infectious numbers, "ROAD TO GLORY" and "SOUND FROM THE OTHER SIDE" will not disappoint as these two uptempo numbers will no doubt be a favorite of many. The Kingsmen also do an excellent job with another Goodman tune recorded back in 1972 called, "BIG ENOUGH" before moving on to the two strongest songs on the recording, "THE WORD" and "MORE THAN PRAY", with the latter being a call to the church to do more than just pray, but to put actions behind those prayers to get the job done.

For those (like me) who still love that old Kingsmen sound will thoroughly enjoy the convention feel of the closing song, "HE KNOWS MY NAME".

While I wouldn't categorize this as my favorite Kingsmen recording, there is some seriously good stuff on here. It's a great recording that will definitely win over some new fans, while keeping most of their current fans quite happy.

I purchased this project the day in came out and I have to say that is a GREAT recording. Although I feel it lacks in the tenor category. I have to say the songs The cloud he's coming back on and He knows my name are my favorite...great CD and I would recommend it...
