With Mike Upright's latest recording aptly titled, "Songs for the Common Man", he continues with the style that works best for him. Mike's folksy, down home approach to his music always comes along with strong lyrics, and this latest release is no different in musical approach or message.
The recording starts with the Adina Bowman penned tune, "PLEASE TELL ME AGAIN", which is the first single from this recording.
Certain songs demand certain mentions, and while all the songs on this recording are very good, some simply stand out from the rest. First is the Billy Fields penned, "WHEN I LAY MY ISAAC DOWN", which is the true triumph of the recording. I hope this song makes it to radio. There is such a striking message in this song; many times the Lord will ask of us to lay something down in our life (symbolically speaking, Isaac) and it's not that God wants that particular thing in our life, He just wants us completely.
Other songs that really stand out are "THE HERO'S ON THE HILL", "THE COMMON MAN", "HE IS I AM", "LOVE LETTERS IN THE SAND" and the unique "FOLLY OF A FOOL".
I love the cover photography and art work. It's classy; not overdone or overly simplistic. The tracks are simple, but very well done and the song selection fits Mike Upright perfectly. Mike's unassuming style is part of his charm. His down home earthiness is what makes Mike Upright.well.Mike Upright! As the title implies, these are songs for the common man, and those who appreciate his approach to the music and the message, will thoroughly enjoy this recording.
