Tim Lovelace is a master at music and comedy. He was a clown prince before he married Mary Alice, and with her playing the “straight man”, so to speak, Tim has a wonderful resource to play off of. Though they are wonderful songwriters and good singers, performance-wise, comedy is where this couple excels.
This DVD features some of the best of Tim and Mary Alice Lovelace and features them mostly at the Grand Resort Hotel & Convention Center in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee during different tapings throughout the last few years. It features almost 1 full hour of music and comedy, and it also features almost another hour of bonus footage, which includes an insightful interview segment with the Lovelaces by Jim and Ellen Moss as well as Tim Lovelace playing the part of the South Pole Santa Claus and telling his version of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”, which is absolutely priceless.
While there is A LOT of comedy, there are some serious moments interspersed throughout with such songs as “HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW”, “JESUS IS A WAYMAKER”, “UNTO THE HILLS” (with Mary Alice performing one of the most beautiful renditions I've ever heard), “FIRST THINGS FIRST”, “CHILD OF THE KING” and “SOMEONE TO CARE.” There are also plenty of fun songs like “DON'T SIT IN MY PEW”, “BAGEL & GRITS” (which I have to add, describes my wife and I to a ‘T'), “THINGS THAT WON'T BE THERE”, “THE BALLAD OF LEVI SLOCUM” (aka- “The Wall Song”), and the ever popular, “LIVE YOUR LIFE SO THE PREACHER WON'T HAVE TO LIE AT YOUR FUNERAL.” There are also a couple of excellent instrumentals by Tim on this DVD as well.
Of course, there are plenty of moments full of laughter on this recording as Tim tells his stories about their early years of traveling and singing as well as raising their daughter, Gabrielle Rose. Some of his favorite stories are also included like “THE TEA ROOM STORY” and the ever popular, “KILT STORY.” Tim has the rare ability to have you in stitches in one minute, and then turn things around on a dime and be serious the next.
They say that laughter is the best medicine and there is a whole pharmacy right here on this DVD. You will laugh till your side's hurt and the tears rolling down your face, but you'll also find some very tender and deeply moving moments as well.
