The Bates Family - Amazed By Mercy
Journey Records If you are looking for some excitement in a recording then you will want what The Bates Family is offering on this one. With seven of the ten songs penned by either, or and sometimes both brothers Tim and Tony Bates, you will see that God has not only blessed these guys with vocal ability, but also great writing talent.
The CD opens with a strong ballad “I Stand Amazed” Tight harmony is a given on every song on this CD. The message of this song is just the plain story of Salvation. You can’t argue with this one. “All Knowin’ All Seein’ God” is an upbeat song that was released to radio, and if the DJs aren’t playing it, then they need to go back and listen to it again, because this cut deserves some radio airplay. It takes the old child’s game of hide and seek, and turns it into a great Bible lesson.
“Mercy Came Down”, “If Tomorrow”, and “Go” all slow the pace down and let alto singer LaDonna Nye show that she knows how to handle interpreting slow songs too. “Before The Blood Was Dry”, penned by producer Zane King, has a great message. It has a real country flair to it. “Savior, Faithful, Friend” is a very pretty song with a very solid message. I really like the Progressive Southern Gospel flair that it has.
The CD closed with a lively number, “I Smell The Rain”. The message of the song is about the story of Elijah and the drought and the rain. It’s a nice ending song, since it leaves you on a high plane. Your toes will be tapping and your hands will be clapping. Rating:
