Crossmen QtZion Music Group

Once in a while you think that you are prepared for what a quartet is going to sound like, because you have heard them before, and then you have a big ole surprise when you hear their next CD. That is exactly what happened when I turned on this Crossmen CD. I guess it goes to show that not all personnel changes are bad. While the past members sound great with the groups they went with, it seems that this change has given the Crossmen new life, and rejuvenated their sound.

In a very full quartet sound, this CD opens with “He Is Leading”. It’s a very straight forward Southern Gospel quartet song, but these guys sing it exactly like you would expect it to sound. Close harmony and vocal expression as a group that is great.

“Won’t That Be Glory” is penned by Jack Toney, and these guys give it lots of spice.  The track is really neat, almost giving it a Dixieland sound. This is one of my favorites. They go from this light and lively number into a very dramatic ballad which will blow your socks off. The integral harmony that they use is simply beautiful. “In The Fold” would make a great radio release. While I have a couple of “favorites” on this CD, this song has to be my ultimate favorite. I just had to hit the repeat button a couple of times each time I listened to this CD. I think that the message of this song is one that we can all relate to at one time or another.

“When I Cross Over Jordan” and “Come Along And Join Me”, along with “The Old Landmark” are all upbeat numbers that you will find yourself singing along with. I also really enjoyed “That’s Why There’s Forgiveness”. Once again the harmony is very close on this song, showing that The Crossmen really know how to communicate these slower very pretty songs.

Song selection on this CD is very nice, with a good balance of getting up and going songs and some beautiful ballads. Other songs on the CD include “The Redeemed Are Coming Home” and “I Will Rise Up From The Grave”.

All in all, I think that this is the best project that The Crossmen have put out.

Don, I totally agree with you on this one. I believe the Crossmen are one of the most under-rated groups out there. I have been a fan of theirs for many years now and constantly lament the fact that they usually stay so close to home. As I drive long distances (mostly) to concerts, my van usually has a Crossmen tape in the deck!!

I could not agree more. You guys just keep getting better and better. After hearing you guys in concert Sunday night, my daughter is now a BIG FAN. She was never into to Southern Gospel until hearing you guys. She has been transformed.
