This month will be short and sweet. (Deon says, "Thank the Lord!")
It's Arkansas. It's winter. They are predicting sleet and snow for tonight or in the morning. I'll believe it when I see it.
We have had some beautiful days over the last month. It will be hard to let them go and let Old Man Winter move in. We were up in Iowa and South Dakota last month to sing for Mr. Ed. It was snowing there one morning and folks were running around in short sleeves! More idiots.
One word of warning. While we were home over Thanksgiving I rented a movie. At the very first it said it had been "formatted to fit my screen". That's nice of them and all, but if they know how big my screen is, there ain't no tellin' what else they know so ya'll be careful.
Well, it's here. The holiday season. Of course for Wal-Mart it started before Thanksgiving was even here. I know I am Scrooge, but there is just too much "hustle and bustle" this time of year for me. And the season starts a little earlier each year. I did see some yard art the other day I'm gonna check out. It was a big, lighted Scrooge sign.
One of my gifts last year was John Grisham's book Skipping Christmas. I have read all his other books, but I don't know anything about this one. I saved it until this year and plan on starting it in a few days. I guess it's supposed to put me in the holiday spirit or something.
Oh, I really do like Christmas. I just don't like ALL the other stuff that goes along with it. I mean, it's supposed to be a time to celebrate the birth of our Savior, but we don't have time because of ALL the stuff we're doing to celebrate Christmas.
Most of our churches now have thrown away the hymnal in favor of the projector screen. If you're fortunate enough to attend one that hasn't, I hope you'll pay close attention to the words of the Christmas carols. Few songs contain more of the good news of salvation than do these great old songs. Notice too that although they are telling the story of the birth of a baby, they also hail Him as King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
Have a Very Merry Christmas,
Jonathan
