The Quicks are big fans of Southern Gospel Music! Our “family vacation” is spent at National Quartet Convention each year just soaking up the whole atmosphere! We are gearing up for the week of September 12-17, 2005 in Louisville, Kentucky – our family will have Booth #422 – and we are so excited! Tim and I will attend the whole week; Rachel and Rebecca will drive up on Wednesday after classes. (They look forward to the time that they will be able to spend the whole week there!) I like listening to all the music and going to hear John Hagee preach on Friday. Tim likes meeting everyone in the building – all 20,000 in attendance! The girls have made so many friends there that it has become mainly a social visit for them, though they each have their favorite groups they don’t miss! I enjoy eating out – that’s a few less meals I have to cook and one week of dirty dishes I get out of!
I have loved this music for as long as I can remember! There were two singings each year, promoted by Mr. Byron Branson in Bradford, Tennessee where I grew up. (Bradford is the home of Johnny Cook, who sang with the Happy Goodmans.) I remember when I was a kid trying to sneak and watch the Gospel Jubilee on Sunday mornings. I had to sneak because I was supposed to be getting ready for church! Mother would always stop to listen to the Inspirations, but she would send me scrambling if I slowed down for anyone else - and I could NOT resist The Happy Goodmans! I would hide in the doorway of the living room (back when that was possible), because you couldn’t just “LISTEN” to the Happy Goodmans! You had to witness them singing! They didn’t just stand there and sing like the people in my church – they had something different and I just had to see it! These two groups are as different as it gets – and thank God for the work each has done - they have both been pillars of the industry! On one hand, you have a male quartet with matching suits and on the other, a group who finished as a mixed trio. That sounds really different until you hear of the One they are singing about! That’s what you will find at the National Quartet Convention! Male quartets, mixed groups, preaching, showcases each afternoon - with one common denominator… they will all be telling about Jesus Christ – each in their own way. “For I determine not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.” I Corinthians 2:2
If you are able to attend NQC 2005, The Quicks hope you will stop by Booth #422 for a “quick” visit! We would love to meet you! (Tim will be the one in the aisle stopping everyone to talk!) We will also have a free gift for each of you who stop by and mention seeing The Quick’s article for this month on SoGospelNews.com!
Be listening for our latest single, “Now I Know” released through the Rick Hendrix Company. We believe the message in this song can impact listeners through radio as it has in concert!
