It’s a Short Thing

“The Lord is coming back some day – It's a Sure Thing!” These words are part of a song I wrote that our family put on our latest project, “What Are You Waiting For!” Our oldest daughter Rachel (who will be 19 years old in July) has a four-year-old sweetheart named Cason who mistakenly sings “It's a Short Thing.” At least I thought it was a mistake…

In II Timothy Chapter 4, Paul is giving a charge to Timothy. Verse 8 contains these words that seemed to jump out at me one day, “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” (Emphasis mine.) I began to search my heart to see if I was longing for the return of my Saviour.

Last night, Rachel and Rebecca were at the church with their youth group. They were having a reenactment of the Last Supper, which must have been a very moving service from the emotion in Rachel's voice when she called at the conclusion. I was not aware of the activities that were taking place while I was waiting for them to “appear” in the driveway safe and sound, I only know the longing in my heart for them to get home. Watching out the window, turning on the flood lights, leaving them a message on their cell phone, looking at the clock – my actions showed that their return was very important to me… and that I was expecting it to be soon! As Christians, do we exist from day to day, preoccupied with our own “stuff,” or are we longing for His appearing? We can clearly see that the Lord's return is fast approaching – the time is short. “He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” Revelation 22:20

The Lord is coming back some day - It is not only a Sure Thing, I believe it is also a “Short Thing!”

till next time…

It's a short thing Baby !!!!
This song is frequently sung in my home. Although I love all "Quick Family" songs, this is probably my favorite. If you have not had the honor of seeing this family in concert, make it a priority this year! You can take that as a direct command.... They appeal to the young(such as myself) and the old (such as my husband).

Great article Sally. GREAT SONG !!!!

Hi Guys,
Your last two projects are working a little overtime - they have taken full time positions with CD players in my home, car, and office.

See you next week week at Choctaw Beach.

To the Quicks,

We love and miss you much and now that I know it's here, I'll read more of your articles. Your faith and devotion will always be an inspiration to me and many others and I pray you never forget Oakland and the "short" time we had together. If anyone out there is looking for sincerety and honesty, this is the place and these are the folks. Keep up the great work.

Doug

Sally, again, you have provoked my thought life, and that in turn provokes my prayer life!

It reminds me of a saying I saw years ago, on a refrigerator magnet (of all things)that said, "What on earth are you doing for heaven's sake?"

What AM I doing? Not near enough, and if we are all honest, we can all find more time, more opportunity, and more reasons to serve and honor and talk for Jesus.

Love to all the family, and we hope to see you soon.
