One of the most profound compliments listed in scripture is spoken of Abraham where he is simply described as a “friend of GOD.” Songs are composed using this same inference, and we lightly acknowledge the power of friendship. But when we come face-to-face with the loss of a “real” friend, it makes us take note of the truly overwhelming void that it leaves in our hearts. Such is the feeling at Zion Music upon the receipt of the news of the Homegoing of our beloved friend, Paul Boden. Some special friends transcend generation. Paul was such a friend. I remember when he opened the door for my family to enter into a greater marketplace with our music ministry. He was my dad’s dear friend. So much so, that we chose Jonesboro, AR as our location for “McGruder Homecomings.” But the best thing about Paul’s friendship was that he made a conscious decision to take each of the group members as personal friends. I never felt as if he was “enduring” me because I was a member of the family. He was truly a friend that transcended generation. Our prayers are with the Boden family. We rejoice in the testimony that Paul leaves of his personal devotion to his Savior and his unfailing commitment to the passion of music ministry through publishing, performance, and promotion. Paul Boden, Rest in Peace.

This month we welcome to the Zion Music family of artists The Gardners. Michael, Mitchell, and Regina are an exciting and fresh group of performers and writers who will be recording on the Mercy Records label. Also, we are excited about the much-anticipated “Revival” project by The Dunaways. It contains so much that Southern Gospel fans will love (check out that song with special guest appearance by Dottie Rambo). Zion Music is proud to have this new addition also. Speaking of radio releases, this past month Zion Music made available on the website an expanded library of radio comp songs. All releases from the past 18 months are now available for immediate downloads. We believe this will enable radio stations and fans to have access to our artist powerful releases. This past month contained the “Crown Jewel” of traditional Southern Gospel convention-style performances. The National Quartet Convention (“The Granddaddy of Them All”) was a tremendous time to connect with all of the music lovers, radio personalities, and performers. A vacation for some and a week of work for others; this event is one that should not be missed by any.
