I was considering some personal areas of my life and ministry opportunities. It had been spoken to me by a respected ministry mentor that everyone should be aware of his or her purpose. He said, “You need to find your purpose? If you don’t know your purpose, then what reference point do you have to determine success? How will you know when you are making progress? Everyone needs a “target” to shoot at.”
That immediately brought me to the Proverb where the “Wise Man” said, “Where there is no vision the people perish.” Literally he is saying, “Without a goal/target/purpose, the people will fall back/lose their motivation/become discouraged.” Keeping a perspective of our purpose allows us to stay motivated towards the good plan that GOD has for us. Each one must discover that personal projection for themselves.
But then I began to consider what is the purpose for the Believer. What are we here for? In the close of Matthew’s gospel, we read the words of Christ, which are known as the Great Commission. It has been disseminated many times through sermons by communicators more thorough than I, so I do not expect this to be earth-shaking revelation. One word in 1 Peter 2:9 leapt from the page as I studied a few days ago. You know the “chosen generation…” passage. I have read it, studied it, memorized and quoted it for years. But some how I had missed a word in the place where it says,”…that you should show forth the praises of HIM who has called you out of darkness into HIS marvelous light.” The word is “praises.” I have always included “praises” in the past, but recent study showed me that the word “virtues” is interchangeable here. “That you should show forth the virtues…” The word “virtues” connotes character traits. What we are really here for is to demonstrate to the world the Character of Christ. Epistles known and read of men are what we are. Not building some personal kingdom with our name on the “corporate cornerstone.” Not promoting our own agenda or formula for success. Not thinking that our personal secular accomplishments are going to be of eternal significance. But knowing that we are his emissaries in the earth. We are to “display” the Virtues of Christ to the world. That is truly what we are here for.
What a GREAT year 2007 is projecting to be for Zion Music Group. Exciting new music from many of our artists, new radio releases, and increased promotional efforts makes it exciting to be a part of this wonderful ministry. I expect that you will be blessed by the progress made in the next few weeks and months.
The Crossmen have a brand new recording that you will find to be exactly what the “doctor” ordered to treat the need for traditional quartet music. The Tim Thomas Trio is blessing audiences and listeners around the country with their newest offering, “BLESSED.” Jerry Bennett has produced one of the most effective ministry oriented solo projects of recent memory. His radio single, “Oil and Wine,” is just the “tip of the iceberg” for songs to touch your heart. Then there are efforts being made to get the newest songs by the McGruders completed and out so that you can be enjoy the fresh new sounds from a team we have come to love. WOW!! This is going to be a GREAT year.
The 40th installment of the Zion Radio Compilations is out for you to request on your local station. Stateline Quartet, The Dunaways, Randy Swift, just to name a few. It will bless your heart and spirit when you enjoy what the Zion family of artists presents.
A real level of attention is being given to pursuing and promoting new young talent that will carry the Gospel in song to those in need. Please pray with us that we will continue to partner with likeminded ministries who have the same passion.
Remember, set a goal for yourself to accomplish as your New Year’s Resolution. Bigger than Diets or those other customary efforts (usually dropped by MLK B-day), let it be a purposeful projection that will inspire you to do more for GOD this year than in years past. Keep Paul’s words from Thessalonians in the front of your mind. “Rejoice Evermore.”
Be Blessed.
