The Ministry of “Helps”

I recently got an email from a singing group thanking me for my ministry of “HELPS”. The group went on to describe how my last article caused them to realize that after years of recording with the same company, they were no further ahead than when they started. When they asked for a line item budget they were told, “We don’t do that, we only have packages.”

The email closed with the group saying, “Thank you Mr. Bruno, your ministry of “Helps” opened our eyes to the truth. After all these years this company was still only interested in our money, and offered no real help in forwarding our ministry. We were just one of many groups going nowhere. God Bless You.”

Needless to say, this email was a blessing to me, but it also got me thinking…What exactly is the Ministry of Helps?

The Ministry of Helps is scriptural. It is specifically mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:28 “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.”

The Greek definition for the word “Helps” used in this verse is, “rendering practical aid and support.

This is a viable and important ministry in the church world today.

I never thought of what I do as the Ministry of Helps, but I see now why this group was thanking me…for “rendering practical aid and support” to their Ministry.

I guess when it’s all said and done, the songwriter was right when he wrote,

“If I can help somebody as I pass along, if I can cheer somebody with a word or song,
If I can show somebody he’s traveling wrong, then my living shall not be in vain.”

Every time I get a letter like the one above, I get inspired to keep going. Every time I can help a group see the truth about where they are, and where they could be, I get blessed. Every time a group gets delivered from the greedy clutches of one of these companies, it is a victory for Southern Gospel Music.

My friends I’m here to help. It doesn’t matter if you just started last week or if you’ve been at this for 40 years. Whatever your need is… I will help you meet that need…just call on me, I’m only an email away.

Before I end I want to express my gratitude for being selected “Producer of the Year”. It is not something I take lightly and I am thankful to The Lord for whatever talent I possess and I give Him all the glory.

As always, I welcome your comments,

God Bless You.

Great article!
As a "help", I would personally like to see some information on this website that will inform songwriters on how to appropriately deal with "Christian" based publishing companies that aren't paying the royalties they owe to the songwriters.
When a publishing contract states that the company will issue royalties within a specific time frame then they should honor that.
Personally, as a songwriter new to the industry, I have been discouraged and fearful of dealing with anymore publishers, and that's their loss.
Mr. Bruno, I respect and admire your wisdom in this industry, so your thoughts are appreciated.

Southern Gospel needs more who are willing to help people, not just take their money.

Nick,

I like the fact that you touch upon spiritual gifts a bit. It's a shame that man has been so engrossed in & of ourselves that we believe ourselves to be the ultimate authority of those gifts.

Our measure of ability & talent should not be one of self-diagnosis; as so many have made that mistake to only be out of a ministry before it begain.

Thank you for setting us straight - Shedding light - and educating the uncharitable.

Another great article. I can testify from experience that Nicks knowledge has helped our ministry first hand. He has helped us avoid some major stumbling blocks in the industry. Thanks Nick for all your advice and help. You, Bill and Tim got a great thing going on at Homeland!

I look forwarding to teaming up with you on our next project!

Nick, your articles nearly always encourage we to pursue excellence when it comes to our ministry and this one is no exception. Thanks for your candid approach to our music and your insight to the things that can be done to improve it!
