Jeff and Sheri Easter, who's popularity on the Gaither Homecoming tapes was met with a "tumultuous welcome", performed their Southern Gospel segment for a very excited and appreciative audience. At the conclusion of the taping, all present promised to return to Sydney again. The Martins- The Martins have been celebrating the privilege and honor of freedom at the closing of each concert in recent months. On the heels of a White House visit earlier this year and the world events of late, the award winning trio pays tribute to freedoms that we are offered as Americans by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing an acappella rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner". In addition, the Martins have been enlisting the assistance of military personnel in attendance, both veteran and active duty, to take part by presenting the Nation's flag. Do you hug your family, friends and even new acquaintances a little longer or tighter these days? Do images of fear or thoughts of finality enter your mind more frequently than before? Personally, I have found it nearly impossible to escape such thinking in recent times. Talks of terrorism and biological and chemical warfare have dominated our headlines and newscasts. How does anyone find joy in such gloomy forecasts?

I find my joy in songs- specifically lyrics of songs. For me, joy comes from a different focus. I'm a "make lemonade out of lemons" kind of girl. As a believer, I have found my personal joy in the knowledge that I am saved by the grace of God and the FACT, that Jesus was born, lived, walked, taught and hung on a cross as a sign that I matter to HIM. When you really break that down, it just doesn't seem real. Who am I? Who are any of us, that a life as perfect as that of Christ would be sacrificed? It's a deep concept to grasp, but the gifts of several very talented and gifted individuals lend light to this topic in song. Let me explain.
The Oak Ridge Boys' current radio single was written by a very talented individual, Garland Craft. Called "Then You'll See," this uncomplicated lyric states-
If you believe on His name, you are forgiven;
If you remain faithful you will be blessed,
What so ever you ask in His name will be given.
The very best part is once we believe, then we'll see what God has in store for us. He wants a relationship with us so much that He created a bridge for us, through Christ's blood, as a road map home. True inner joy comes from the acceptance of God's will (first you believe) and the reception of God's love (then you'll see).
Another phenomenal reality is that we live in such a hurting world. We have faced recent heartache and loss that our parents would have deemed unimaginable. Spiritual casualties have undoubtedly resulted from recent world events. The good news is that the Master has picked up our "broken pieces." Once again, joy in the form of HOPE can be found in the song "Made By Mercy," sung in sweet family harmony by the Ruppes, written by Gina Vera and Kelly Skidmore.
"Made By Mercy" embraces one of my favorite sayings, "God didn't make any junk"! The lyric says, "He took what the world saw as worthless and created a masterpiece". If you haven't heard this incredible ballad, call your local radio station and request it? It IS a blessing waiting to happen!
Finally, because pain and hurt does many times override joy, I want to draw your attention to the incredibly poignant song by Sheri Easter called "Learn to Love Again." Sung by Jeff and Sheri Easter, this song talks about letting go and letting God heal your broken spirit. It gives us permission to love again and open our hearts to forgiveness. It encourages those hurting among us to lay down our anger, take His hand, and travel on! Life is too precious and short to be shackled by the chains of anger, resentment and pain. This is definitely an anthem for this day and age.

If I were to leave you with one thought today it would be this "Buffi-ism" inspired by the words of my dad; "No one is going to ruin my day today except me". Be conscious of the joy you can share. Be the example of joy that others want to follow. You may be the only bible someone may ever read. Smile more because it increases your "face value" and be protective of your joy? It's your God-given gift!

Until next time,
"Praise-alleluia"!
