Love vs. Cell Phones

Are any of you out there like me? Do you have a love-hate relationship with cell phones? Are you thankful for this modern convenience but at the same time, often wish it didn’t exist? Don’t get me wrong. I appreciate the ability to call for help if I were to get a flat tire. I am especially thankful for “mobile to mobile” minutes and being able to reach Jim when he’s on the road. And, it’s nice to be able to call one another when you get separated in the mall...ha! Also, we’re “gadget geeks” at our house. So I was very excited to hear that Apple is coming out with what I’ve always wanted, an iPod and cell phone all in one!! (that’s a modern convenience worth checking into!) What I’m not so excited about is that often, rather than having Jim all to myself, I have to share him with his cell phone.

Anyone who has spent even a little time with Jim knows that he might as well have a cell phone receiver implanted into his head because he’s on it all the time! He hadn’t been with the Booth Brothers for very long before he was appropriately nick-named “Wireless”. Now I know that many of his calls are made to me, and for that, I really am thankful for cell phones. But when he’s home, it’s an entirely different story.

You see, Jim has this gentlemanliness about him that tells him when the phone rings, he should answer it. Whatever he’s doing, he feels obligated to take the call, even at dinner! I’ve tried to convince him that the phone was made for HIS convenience, not for everyone trying to reach him. But the hard working, honorable traits that I love in him say he must take care of all that needs to be done, whenever necessary.

On March 6th we celebrated our 14th anniversary (yay!!) and since our traveling schedules have been pretty busy lately, we only had the day of our anniversary available to celebrate. So, we filled the day with fun stuff. Going shopping, out to dinner, to the movies, it was great! The best part of this story is that I received a very pleasant surprise when we got out of the car to go into the mall. Jim left his cell phone in the car....on purpose! He said he left it there because it was our day! Wasn’t that sweet? I am such a blessed girl!

Something to think about:

We often get caught up in “well doing” and we forget that our families are constantly “sharing” us with all that’s going on in our lives. We need to make sure our loved ones know that they come first. Girls, put your husband before the housework or your friends, and guys, let your wife know she is more important to you than your job, or golf. You get the idea. It may seem funny, but it’s true, being chosen over a cell phone made me feel SPECIAL!!
Blessings!

Melissa,

Pretty funny....I have told Jim before that he makes verizon very happy every month.

Actually I feel the same way lately...I have really become sick to death of my phone ringing. Of course, many time when the phone rings it is helping to pay the bills but sometimes it is people being very inconsiderate of my "home" time.

I will make a deal with you......I won't call Jim at home this week.....I will wait till he is on the road and bored!

Happy anniv.!

Elaine Harcourt's avatar Love the story, Melissa! What a sweetie, though, to purposely leave the phone in the car so you could enjoy some uninterrupted time together! I'd say he's a keeper!

God is good all the time & all the time God is good.

I have a cell phone story I would like to share.
At a concert in Paducah, KY, we were blessed by The Talley Trio, Anthony Burger, and Linda Randall. At the beginning of the concert, A notice came on the big screen to turn off cell phones, because it would disrupt the program. The Talley Trio performed first, then Anthony Burger. As he was doing a spectacular job, Roger and Lauren had came in and sat down in the back row of the theater. Suddenly a cell phone goes off. Who's was it you might ask? Lauren Talley's .
