With 2007 well underway, I am seeing and hearing some positive reports from the SGPA members. After the struggle of the past 3 or 4 years, we seem to be in a recovery mode.

As tough as times have been in our industry, I think that promoters, artists, and agencies have learned a lot about each other. The main thing being that none of us can succeed on our own. We have lost some really good promoters that just could not weather the storm, and I do regret that. But, as I have already mentioned, I believe we have turned the corner.

However, let me share with you some changes that I think you may begin to see. First, more and more concerts with no more than two major artists. Secondly, increases in ticket prices and I would like to explain. Every promoter has seen artist fees continually rising and, we understand that because it costs more for a group to stay on the road than ever before.

Promoters are faced with more expenses than ever before also. Example - a venue now for a concert can cost anywhere from $600.00 to $1500.00, or more. Advertising rates have soared. And, now most venues require a promoter to provide liability insurance for a concert, with the cost of those policies ranging from $600.00 to $1000.00 per event.

When you look at these facts, you can readily see where the promoter stands financially when promoting a concert. But, gospel concerts are still the best bargain in town. Before writing this article, I researched pricing for a country music concert with only one major artist - their prices ranged from $35.00 to $60.00. You can expect to pay from $40.00 and up for a rock concert. For a contemporary Christian concert the tickets are considerably higher than a southern gospel ticket. On an average a southern gospel ticket runs from $12.00 to $18.00 and will feature 2 or 3 major groups. These days will be short-lived.

Promoters provide the greatest music and the best family entertainment available anywhere, but charge less. As you can see promoters are not trying to get rich. More often than not, they would be happy to just break even. Our music will survive - why? Because we have good Christian men and women in our industry that includes artists, agencies, promoters, record companies, etc. Most of all when we come together in one accord, God will bless our effort and that is what I am seeing.

So, if you see an increase in ticket pricing at concerts in your area, just remember these facts. The members of the SGPA are committed to bringing you the best music in the world at an affordable price.

When everything is said and done without the fans, who buy the tickets, there would be no concerts.

In closing, let me encourage everyone to attend as many concerts as possible.
