There's lots of good music out today. But sometimes a song comes along that really touches the heart. It just touches a nerve. That's the way a song from David Phelps' new project “Revelation” hit me. The song is “Love Goes On.” The point of the song is that some things come and go, but love endures. It's like a modern day I Corinthians 13.
“A shooting star tumbles down
Its flame cannot endure
A scarlet rose withers brown
To lose its fragrant lure
The moon illuminates the night
To vanish at the dawn
But love, love goes on”
It was a nice song, but each verse gets better, until the last verse, which really got me.
“A baby boy, a starlit night
Kings on bended knee
Healing hands, giving sight
The tortured on a tree
A woman sings, rejoicing
‘He is risen, He is gone!'
Because love, love goes on.”
All of the emotions of “The Passion of the Christ” are still right under the surface, and this pulled them right out. As we get closer and closer to Resurrection Sunday, we can't help but think about all that Jesus did, all that He went through, and the incredible love He showed. When we fully realize all He did, the price He paid, the love He had for us, how could we not live for Him? How could we not respond to that love? How could we not want His will more than our own? How could we not?
Life gets hard. Everybody's does. But what never changes, the rock that stands solid that we can always depend on is Jesus: the same yesterday, today forever. No matter what you're facing today, He's right there, still loving, still caring, still wanting to help.
“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13)
Or as David Phelps wrote and sang, “Love goes on”
