There is a song entitled “There’s A New Name Written Down In Glory”. That title can now include Paul Boden. Paul moved into his Heavenly mansion on Sunday, September 17th around 8:00 p.m. Heaven’s gain was Southern Gospel Music’s loss.

Paul was owner and publisher of the U. S. Gospel News. He was a very influential individual, yet believed that everyone deserved a chance. He had a vast knowledge of gospel music as an artist, promoter, writer, fan, and an ardent supporter of gospel music. Paul was ever mindful of the happenings in our industry.

As a member of the Southern Gospel Promoters Association, we had the opportunity to attend many meetings together, and he always brought a lot of fresh ideas to the table.

You never had to wonder where Paul stood on any issue, he always expressed his opinion. He truly loved the old-fashioned four-part harmony quartet singing, yet he understood that change was inevitable and helped promote new artists through his paper.

Paul was a man with an impeccable set of values and morals. We were involved in various business ventures and never signed a contract. There was no need, Paul’s word was his bond - like money in the bank.

I loved his sense of humor. If I was having a bad day, I would call Paul and say “I need to hear a funny story” and he would start rattling off stories one after the other. He never ran out. Many of the stories were about his days when he was traveling with quartets. After a few minutes with Paul, my spirits were always lifted.

My wife, Katye, had also grown to love Paul. He and some friends came to the Southmen Reunion in April of this year and she truly enjoyed visiting with them. She said two words described Paul Boden - true gentlemen.

Even though Paul was not related to me, his passing has affected me more than anything I can remember in a long time. There is a void that cannot be filled. There’s no question, Paul is now singing in the Heavenly choir and having a great time. My life has been enriched by having known this great man.

I urge everyone to continue their support to the U. S. Gospel News with your prayers and continued business. It is a great paper in our industry.

I think I speak for a multitude of people when I say to have known Paul Boden was to have loved him. Yes, a new name is written in glory. Paul, we miss you already. We love you Pal.

Paul Boden indeed was a great man and will surely be missed. I began my singing career in NE Arkansas and Paul and many other great singers from that area accepted a 7 year old kid with a love for gospel music. Paul always supported my music and gave me many opportunities to be heard over the last 35 years. I had the privilege of writing for USGN in the early years and have been a guest in his home and on many concert events.

Some kids admire athletes and consider them heroes. My heroes have always been SG singers and Paul would definitely be at the top of the list. Our industry has lost one of the best.
