'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the town
Not one room was vacant, not one could be found;
The travelers were looking for some place to bed down
They found a hay-filled stable and slept on the ground.
And late in the night, the virgin mother-to-be,
Woke up weary Joseph, who jumped, I believe,
And God's Holy Lamb, that precious baby,
Was born in a manger and went straight to sleep (maybe).
And just a few hills away, shepherds herding their sheep,
Were startled by angels who announced "Joy and peace!"
"A baby is born in David's city,
A Savior in Bethlehem, get up, go and see."
And the shepherds were scared to see such a sight,
A chorus of angels calling out in the night,
And they ran just as fast as they could to the Light,
Leaving their sheep - probably frozen with fright.
Mary was pleased to see these rugged men coming,
It was amusing to see them running and jumping,
And bowing and praising and already humming
A tune of redemption, how terribly stunning!
And later three astrologers scanning the sky
Would find a great star so bright and so high,
So alluring they followed through deserts so dry
And found the sweet Christ child drawing them nigh.
He's proven so magnetic to all walks of men
Down through the ages, again and again
This Christmas, I pray you'll find peace in Him
And light up the skies - lost sinners to win!
Merry Christmas!
