Last year I met someone and shortly thereafter felt a strong sense that I was on an assignment from God. It was as if God kept pointing out this person and telling me, "I've got one for you. Do your encouragement thing."
Why does God give some of His most precious gifts to the most cracked of His pots? Then, I happened to watch the Gaither Vocal Band reunion videos, where I heard Mark Lowry, as he has a tendency to do, nail the answer in one sentence. "Because cracked pots spill more water."
If our lives ran as perfectly as we wanted them to, some of us might start to feel after a while we'd have no need for God...or for a savior. I believe that each of us has at least one or two issues going on that can keep us before the cross.
We are human and sometimes we "just wanna be mad for awhile." That includes us Christians as well. Take a look at a few comments on blogs or message boards and you'll see what I mean. We get a little too critical too quickly before we know all of the facts. Sometimes we direct that negative energy at people without thinking
The gift of encouragement doesn't require a paid position or an office. As this boat we are all in gets bigger, it's more important than ever for us to cover each other in support. We need to encourage one another to press on, continue to walk forward, hold fast to our gifts and never, ever give up
As fans and supporters, we need to do two things. One is to encourage the artists' work and talents. Let them know that what they do is valued and being used in the way in which it's intended. The other is to let God do the rest
I've been noticing that one of the hot topics these days is where Southern Gospel is going, and how to best describe it. There seems to be some disagreement as to what is "traditional", what is "contemporary" or "progressive", or even if those latter two categories should even be considered
When I can’t get to a show, I rely regularly on fan reports to learn how things went. Sometimes it’s a bit disappointing when the concert report I’ve been looking for consisted of only three words
It has now been one year since I moved to Nashville. I am indeed having a wonderful life out here. There are enough musical activities going on around town every night to make a person’s head spin
One last concert memory. There's a very special framed picture in my home which was taken backstage at a Dallas, TX Gaither Homecoming concert of me with Taylor Mason, Mark Lowry and Anthony Burger
Some fans manage to distort reality into their own fantasies, doing a very good job of convincing themselves, at least. I've been surprised to note that even gospel music also has its share of fan storytellers and potential fiction novelists
I glanced at my pocket calendar map of the U.S. the other day, the one in which I shaded in every state I've traveled to, lived in or just passed through. My current count of visited states is 21 (yes, I've gained another since last I spoke about this!).
