Jason Waldroup To Leave Greater Vision

image
Jason Waldroup, Greater Vision's long-time tenor, has announced his plans to leave the group to pursue a Seminary education, beginning this Fall.

According to Jason..."This is a decision I have been struggling with for more than a year, and the time has come for me to follow what I believe to be God's will for my life. I have delayed this decision because of my love for what I've been privileged to do for the past thirteen years as a part of Greater Vision, and my relationships with Gerald and Rodney. They, along with Chad Baker, our Product Manager, are family to me, and they're my closest friends. That has made this decision that much more difficult."

Gerald Wolfe, manager of Greater Vision, states, "Jason is like a son to me, as well as being one of the closest friends I've ever had. None of us want to see him leave, but we have encouraged him to follow God's leading, no matter what, and leave the consequences to Him."

Rodney Griffin, the group's baritone, stated, "I will certainly miss standing beside Jason every night, but he has my full support as he moves into his next phase of ministry."

Jason will be active in the selection of his replacement and will remain with the group to help train the new group member until his schooling begins in the Fall.

Jason Waldroup joined Greater Vision in 1995. He has been the recipient of numerous Singing News Fan Awards, most recently being named Gospel Music's Favorite Tenor in 2007. He, his wife Missy, and their children, Abbie and Jonathon reside in Morristown, Tennessee.

Son of Heritage Communications’ Jeff O’Neal Hospitalized [UPDATE]

Russell O'Neal is home resting now and the Doctors have diagnosed him with Spontaneous Pneumothorax which occurs in individuals with no known lung disease. It affects close to 9,000 persons in the United States each year, most often among tall, thin men between 20 and 40 years old. The cause of this type of pneumothorax is the rupture of a bleb or cyst in the lung.

"The doctor said to keep a close eye on him for the next two weeks and she's hoping it will heal on it's own. If not they'll have to do surgery. But I'm not even going to focus on that, I'm just happy to have him home. Again, thank you so much for your prayers. He has been in awful pain but it seems to be easing off now. I know it's all because of the prayers!" stated O'Neal

Canaanland Publishing Announces Songwriters

image
NASHVILLE, Tenn--(3-18-08)--Canaanland Publishing is pleased to announce the signing of four outstanding songwriters to its roster…Kenna West, Lee Black, David Staton and Gus Gaches. Canaanland Publishing is an imprint of Word Publishing, a division of Word Entertainment. Canaanland was one of the leading Southern Gospel publishers in the 70’s and 80’s and in 2007 was redeveloped with the rebirth of Canaan Records. Word Publishing has approximately 45 Christian songwriters under contract and administers a catalog of more than 40,000 copyrighted songs. Word Music is the industry's premier source for church hymnals, choral music, and associated instrumental music, vocal folios and accompaniment tracks.

Kenna Turner West’s career in Gospel music has spanned nearly 25 years. Kenna grew up in the industry where her father, Ken Turner, sang bass for the legendary Blackwood Quartet. Kenna later joined the group and after nine albums, she began writing songs. Her first penned single, “Were Not Gonna Bow,” was recorded by popular Southern Gospel trio, Jeff & Sheri Easter and earned Kenna a #1 song and a Gospel Music DOVE Award nomination for Best Recorded Country Song. Since then, her songs have graced a dozen DOVE Award nominated projects. In 2005, she was voted the SGM Songwriter of the Year and in 2007 Kenna wrote her first book, Finding the Good and Seeing His Glory. Many other artists have recorded Kenna’s songs including The Talley Trio, Ivan Parker, Brian Free & Assurance, The Hoppers, Karen Peck & New River, LordSong, Susie Luchsinger, The LeFevre Quartet, Larry Ford and many others. Kenna said, “I grew up listening to Canaan artists--Wendy Bagwell, The Goodmans and The Cathedrals--so it is indeed an honor to write for Canaanland and to be a part of the Word family.”

Lee Black has written songs recorded by Brian Free & Assurance, Ivan Parker, the Ruppes, the Nelons and The LeFevre Quartet. “I was raised on Southern Gospel. When I was a kid, we got ready for church watching the Gospel Singing Jubilee on television. I'm thrilled that Word has resurrected Canaan Records and thrilled to be in the Canaanland Publishing family. I am looking forward to working with Dave Clark and Chad Segura. Dave published the first cut I ever had over 15 years ago, so working with him again feels like coming full circle!” commented Lee. For four years, Lee spent his days working in publishing at Integrity Music. Now he is serving as Worship Leader at Church on the Eastern Shore in Fairhope, AL. He and his wife, Melissa, began attending the church in 2001, four months after it was planted by a good friend/college roommate. It started with 40 people and currently has 1,200 in attendance on Sunday morning. Lee replied excitedly, “God is doing some great things there!” Lee is currently nominated for a DOVE Award for his work on No Wonder!, a children’s musical.

David Staton began traveling and singing Gospel music with his family when he was six years old. He began writing music in high school, and soon after had his first cut with "Do It By The Book" recorded by Gold City in 1990. Since then, David has written music for nearly every nationally known group in Southern Gospel music, including the number one song, "In His Will There Is A Way" by Jeff & Sheri Easter. David is considered to be one of the most commercial and versatile writers today with cuts in R&B, Country, Bluegrass, Black Gospel and Southern Gospel. His song "Every Knee Shall Bow" was recorded by Dottie Peoples (On Time God) with special guest, Gary Oliver (Celebrate Jesus), both of which are very successful songwriters themselves. The song was singled to Black Gospel Radio in late 2001. In 2002, that project earned a Grammy award nomination. Other artists outside of Southern Gospel music to record David's music are Grammy winner Tony Rich, India.Arie, Jagged Edge, 4.0 and X-scape and Bluegrass queen, Rhonda Vincent. David sang lead briefly with the Trailblazers in 1991 - 1992 and then for Priority from 1992 to 1995. After spending nearly 10 years singing solo, he believes that God has placed him with Canaan Record’s own LeFevre Quartet. “It has been so evident that God has had His hand on The LeFevre Quartet from the formation of the group. The fact that Canaan Records and Canaanland Publishing is now involved and has become such a vital part of what we do is so neat. I am so excited to be a part of Canaan Records and the Canaanland Publishing family,” stated David.

Karrie Cook, Creative Director of Word Publishing; Dave Clark, General Manager of Canaan Records and Canaanland Publishing; David Staton; Gus Gaches; Chad Segura, Vice-President of Word Publishing; Amy Pelphrey, Word Publishing Coordinator.
Gus Gaches says, “I am so pleased to have the opportunity to grow as a writer with Canaanland Publishing. I truly believe that it all starts with the song and I feel God has opened a door for me to share some of the music that He has given to me and my wife.” Gus and his wife have had several songs featured on the Trinity Broadcasting Network and song agreements with Chris Christians Publishing Company. They have garnered numerous Southern Gospel cuts throughout the years. They also penned the theme song and voiced the character for Avon’s Easter Bunny Campaign in 2002. Gus is Canaanland’s newest writer, but is set to make a huge impact on Gospel music with his songwriting. Gus’ latest effort, “It’s Time To Sing,” was co-written with David Staton and Joel Lindsey and has been cut by The LeFevre Quartet.

The church has experienced nearly unbelievable growth in the years that have followed, taking in over 160 new additions in that time. The Steeles and the Faith Baptist Church Choir (featured throughout the new LIVE album) are using the proceeds from this joint venture to finance a new building project for Faith Baptist Church. The album title is FAITH, and includes old favorites like "All Things Work Together" and "On the Road to Emmaus", but it is full of new Steele's music, also.” Every dime generated from the sale of this project goes directly to our building fund," continues Jeff. The project is produced by Jeff Steele, Ricky Atkinson, and Troy Peach

The LeFevre Quartet Working On Canaan Record’s Debut Project

image
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (3-10-08) Canaan Record’s newest recording artist, The LeFevre Quartet, is currently in the studio working on their debut project with Producer Jason Webb. Mike, David, Stacy and Gus are fairly new to the Southern Gospel circuit, however this exciting group of men is quickly becoming known for their fresh four-part harmony, exceptional live performances and soul-stirring songs. Their latest work is no exception and will include the classic LeFevre Quartet sound with songs by notable songwriters such as Sue Smith and Joel Lindsey, as well as Canaanland writers Kenna Turner West and Lee Black. The album will also feature several songs by group members, David Staton and Gus Gaches, who were also recently signed to Canaanland Publishing. In an album where nothing but high-caliber songwriting and superior vocals abound, this project is already creating a buzz among industry professionals. Canaan Records and Word Entertainment will release The LeFevre Quartet’s debut album July 1, 2008 worldwide. The first single from the project will ship to radio in May.

Jason Webb commented, "It has been such a great experience working with the LeFevre Quartet on their latest project. They have an amazing vocal sound and I am extremely happy with the songs we have chosen. I can't wait for everyone to hear this new album."

Mike LeFevre continued, “Jason is a great person as well a great musician. Without a doubt, he has pulled the best out of the guys of The LeFevre Quartet. I believe that God placed Jason in our lives to help grow this ministry to its full potential. The whole group is tremendously excited about the new project. We hope everyone enjoys it as much as we have enjoyed recording it.”

The LeFevres are one of the oldest, most awarded and respected family names in the world of Gospel music. After a career that spanned nearly six decades, the LeFevres retired in the mid 1970's, but a second generation LeFevre was just setting out to make his own mark in Southern Gospel music. Mike LeFevre, nephew to the first lady of Gospel music herself, Eva Mae, began singing professionally with The Alphus LeFevre singers. In the early eighties Mike sang briefly with the Singing Americans, and from 1985 to 1992 he was the smooth baritone voice for the very successful Gold City.

Mike took some much needed time off, but now he is back with what he believes is Gospel music history in the making. The LeFevres were always pioneers and innovators in Southern Gospel music and Mike continues to make his mark by forming the first group in several years to bear the legendary LeFevre name. Mike has prayerfully and carefully picked the members that make up the new quartet. If you were a fan of the LeFevres, Mike and the guys will take you back with fresh, new arrangements of some very well known LeFevre hits. When you see the group live, don't expect to only hear the old LeFevre songs from yesteryear. This quartet has great new music and a great new sound that will win them fans of all ages. The quartet's members, both individually and collectively, share one common goal and purpose - to exalt and glorify the name of Jesus.

Log onto http://www.canaanrecords.com and add your e-mail address to the Canaan mailing list. E-mails will periodically be sent to your inbox with updates on the brand new LeFevre Quartet project, as well as other exciting releases from the label.

Dove Brothers Quartet Continues to Dominate Southern Gospel Radio

image
BLADENBORO, N.C. – The Dove Brothers Quartet continues their winning streak at Southern Gospel with their new single, “You Don’t Know God’s Love.”

“You Don’t Know God’s Love” is the debut single from the group’s highly anticipated new recording, Life. The song is re-working of the Ronnie Milsap country favorite “You Don’t Know My Love” with a Gospel twist.

The new single was the #1 New Release according to the upcoming April 2008 Singing News Top 80 chart – making it the most added song of that reporting period.

In addition, the song broke into the Top 20 on the SoGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart last week and is currently sitting at #18 on the chart this week.

McCray Dove of the Dove Brothers Quartet said, “We are very excited about ‘You Don’t Know God’s Love’ and how it is doing at Southern Gospel radio. We think it effectively shows where we are going musically, yet at the same time keeps our feet firmly planted in traditional Southern Gospel music. The response we have seen from the song is wonderful.”

“You Don’t Know God’s Love” follows in the footsteps of the group’s last two singles – both of which reached the #1 position. “I’m Gonna Make It” spent 8 weeks at #1 on the SoGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly Chart and reached #1 on Gospel Music News Top 100. “I Can Pray” went #1 in every national chart, and it became the #1 Song of 2007 according to Singing News Magazine. The Dove Brothers Quartet were also named the most played artist of 2007 in Southern Gospel radio by SoGospelNews.com.

Jerry Martin of the Dove Brothers Quartet said, “Radio has been extremely good to us. Thank you so much for supporting our ministry!”

In addition, the Dove Brothers Quartet have been nominated for eight SGN Music Awards this year. The popular quartet received nominations in the following categories: Pacesetter, Song of the Year (for “I Can Pray”), Male Vocalist of the Year (for Jerry Martin), Male Group of the Year, Musician of the Year (for Jerry Kelso), Best Live Performer, Traditional Southern Song of the Year (for “I Can Pray”), and Fan Favorite Artist of the Year.
