Jeremy Peace Joins Old Paths

Just a few short months from resigning his position with the Kingsmen, Jeremy Peace has joined the Old Paths as their new tenor. Peace left the road for personal reasons, many of which he openly talked about in a post on the SoGospelNews Message Boards.

Concerning his position with Old Paths Jeremy stated "Having a family while being on the road full-time can be strenuous, and can easily take it's toll on someone who is not equipped with the tools necessary to survive while away from their loved ones. The road eventually took it's toll upon my life, so with the Lord's guidance, I made the decision to come off the road. I became an engineer at a studio in Rome Georgia, and began to work on my degree in business management. But shortly thereafter, I received a phone call from some friends of mine who were in need of a tenor. Of course, my first reaction was one of hesitance, but the more we began to talk and pray about this, the more I began to realize that it was okay to move forward and accept the position as tenor for The Old Paths."

Peace begins his new position immediately.

The Glovers Welcome New Members

image
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – Adam & Kathy Glover, of the Glovers, are proud to announce the addition of two new members to their ministry team.

The Glovers are happy to welcome Candise Dildine to the group as a third-part vocalist. Candise has been around Southern Gospel her whole life while singing with her family. In addition, the Glovers also added Dallas Pruitt as the group’s brand new piano player. Dallas is 22 years old and is also Candise’s fiancé. Dallas will also be providing additional vocal help as well.

Dallas and Candise are filling in the spots that Tony & Dawn Meacham left vacant earlier this year. The couple was with the Glovers for four years.

Kathy Glover of the Glovers said, “Several months back, we started entertaining the idea of bringing a new piano player on board, but we really didn’t give it a whole lot of thought. We talked about how nice it would be to have someone talented enough to play songs ‘off the cuff’, add a little background as we share testimony, be able to fill in during times of invitation, and travel with us to all of our events. This was a discussion from time to time, but we really never went into true pursuit mode. However, as God always seems to do, He threw Dallas right in our path. We are very excited about having him aboard and anticipating what God will do with his testimony as well.”

Adam Glover of the Glovers said, “Candise has just stepped up to the plate and filled a void that we had when Tony & Dawn left the group. She is doing such a fantastic job, and we know that God is going to use this talented couple in many wonderful ways.”

The Glovers have recently been recording vocals for their upcoming national release. The new album, tentatively titled One Good Reason, is being recorded at UpFront Studios in Nashville, Tennessee and features the engineering talents of Terry Thompson.

One Good Reason will feature new songs by some of Southern Gospel’s most popular songwriters such as Chris Binion, Zane King, Del Way (who penned the Glovers’ breakout hit “Hurtin’ People”), and Eric Horner. Also, Kathy Glover co-wrote two songs for the project – “Hidden Secrets” (co-written with Chris Binion) and “Saving My Life” (co-written with Zane King). Both of the songs deal with Kathy’s personal testimony and ministry surrounding abortion.

The first single release from One Good Reason is “Mercy Came Down”, which was written by Del Way.

LeFevre Quartet on Charles Stanley’s In Touch TV Program Again

image
The LeFevre Quartet made their second television appearance on Dr. Charles Stanley's In Touch show this weekend. The show featured their performance of their song, "To Get To Jesus".

LeFevre lead singer and songwriter David Staton stated, "We were singing this weekend in South Georgia and were in the middle of a sound check when the show aired, so we weren't able to see it. Monday morning when we checked our email at the office, people all across the country had emailed us. They all had different stories, but they were all at the end of their rope and after hearing the song, God spoke to them and their lives were forever changed! I won't bore you with the details with what I was going through when Cheryl Rogers and I penned that song, but I knew that God would use it in a big way when at the very moment the lyrics were written down, God used it to minister to me in my situation! I don't know how it feels to win a Grammy Award for writing a song, but I can assure you, it can't compare to reading those emails and watching people night after night do whatever it takes 'To Get To Jesus'!"

Crossroad Partners with Holt International

image
The newly formed group, Crossroad, has agreed to partner with Holt International Children’s Services to help homeless children overseas.

“I wanted our ministry to team up with a faith-based organization, and with Holt’s rich heritage I felt like the relationship would only grow stronger as time passed,” said Anthony Facello, group owner. “It is our duty as Christians to take care of the needy. I believe we are supposed to be a light to the world, and reaching out to orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children is a wonderful way to demonstrate the love of Jesus”

Holt International, based in Eugene, Oregon, recently celebrated fifty years of caring for homeless children and uniting them with permanent families. Holt was founded by Harry and Bertha Holt who learned about Korean children having to grow up in orphanages following the Korean War. The Holts felt that God led them to adopt eight of those children, an effort that required a special act of the U.S. Congress. In 1956 the Holts established their organization that has grown to help homeless children around the world.

The last scheduled date for the Florida Boys will be Sunday, July 22nd.

Les Beasley, Glen Allred and Derrell Stewart have each performed with The Florida Boys for over fifty years. Les told Ed and Jeff Harper, "I am 79 and Glen and Derrell are in their seventies and none of us are in the best of health; worn out may be the right word. We know that it is time for us to slow down to a much less demanding life style. This is something we sincerely regret."

All concert promoters and churches that have the Florida Boys scheduled after July 22nd have been informed of this decision. The Harper Agency is assisting them in trying to schedule other artists to fill the dates that were scheduled after July 22nd.

Ed Harper, president of The Harper Agency states, "Even though we knew this day would be sooner rather than later, it is still hard to imagine The Florida Boys will not be on the road any longer. It has truly been an honor and blessing for the Harper family to have represented the Florida Boys for nearly forty years, dating back to when our late father, Herman Harper, booked them when he was with Don Light Talent. The Harper Agency and Florida Boys truly appreciate all the concert promoters and churches who booked them over the years during their long and successful journey. We wish all the guys the best as they enter the next chapter of their lives."

Word Entertainment Officially Announces Re-launch of Canaan Records

image
With Gospel Music Favorite, The Hoppers, as First To Sign

NASHVILLE, TN – June 8, 2007 – On Tuesday, June 6th, Word Entertainment announced the re-launch of legendary Southern Gospel label, Canaan Records, at a sales conference that took place at the “W” in Franklin, TN. Word also took this opportunity to showcase their first group to sign, Southern Gospel music favorite, The Hoppers.

As a subsidiary of Word, Canaan Records began in 1965 as an outlet for Southern Gospel music. It included Southern Gospel greats such as The Happy Goodman Family, The Florida Boys, The Inspirations, The Nelons, and The Cathedrals. As of Tuesday, this legendary label is back in full swing with The Hoppers, who have been deemed “America’s favorite family of Gospel Music.” As Word seeks to connect Southern Gospel’s legendary past to it’s exciting future, no other group could fit the mold more perfectly.

This year, The Hoppers are celebrating their 50th year in the Southern Gospel music industry. Theirs is a past steeped in tradition where in the early years of “The Hopper Brothers and Connie,” they often performed with many renowned groups of the past. Now, with Claude, Connie, their sons Mike, Dean, and Dean’s wife Kim, this family has come full circle into the future of Southern Gospel music.

Their aptly named brand new album, The Ride, will be released under Canaan Records on September 4th, 2007. This record exemplifies the true spirit of Southern Gospel music, with its tight-knit harmonies and unwavering boldness to spread the message of the Gospel, while at the same time bringing a freshness that will speak to the hearts of future generations.

Dave Clark, a well-known figure in the Christian music industry as well as accomplished songwriter, has been selected by Word Entertainment CEO, Jim Van Hook, to take the reigns of this new venture. Dave is being quoted as saying, “As a young songwriter back in the 70’s, my first cuts were on the Canaan label and many of my songwriting heroes wrote for Canaanland music. Men like Marvin Norcross helped pave the way for many of us through the years. I realize with the legacy of the past there comes a responsibility for the future. That’s why the Hoppers are the perfect group to begin this next chapter. They represent all of the things that attracted me to gospel music so many years ago. Their commitment to quality, integrity, consistency, and a passion for ministry are just a few of the reasons they are still making a difference in their 50th year.”

Part of Dave’s responsibilities will also include overseeing the redevelopment of the Canaanland publishing imprint, which was one of the leading Southern Gospel publishers in the 70’s and 80’s.

Rhonda Thompson of Rhonda Thompson Promotions will play an integral part in the establishment of Canaan’s role in Southern Gospel’s presence on the radio waves. For over thirteen years, Rhonda’s career includes promoting over forty number one hits as well as being named “SGMA Radio Promoter Of The Year" for an unprecedented five years.

Canaan Records Officially Launches

image
Word Label Group officially announced the relaunch of the Canaan Record label Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at a luncheon for industry leaders and executives. The Hoppers were presented as the flagship artist on the new label and performed selections from their brand new release, The Ride. Jim Van Hook, president of Word introduced the newly re-formed label and presented Dave Clark as the new head of Canaan Records.

Clark, a successful songwriter in his own right, expressed to the audience the goals and desires of the label to develop the careers of new artists within the expanding genre while maintaining the integrity and history of the past.

Canaan Records was home to such well known groups as The Happy Goodmans, The Florida Boys, The Cathedrals, The Inspirations, The Nelons, Wendy Bagwell and the Sonlighters, and many more during its heyday.

With Word Label Group's vast resources and marketing skills, Canaan Records will be seated to become one of the most sought after labels in southern gospel music. Their signing of The Hoppers is indicitive of the level of talent they will be maintaining. Clark expressed to the audience that the southern gospel market was ripe for a new top level label, and Canaan Records will attempt to become that label.

President Jim Van Hook spoke about some of the future marketing plans of Word Label Group and its inclusion of southern gospel music in those plans. One such example would be the end-cap displays seen in many Christian bookstores. No longer will those displays only include the stylings of contemporary Christian music, but will include "GOOD Christian music" in general.

In addition Canaan Records will be launching Canaanland Publishing and are looking forward to signing and working with some of southern gospel's leading songwriters.

Be watching for a re-launch of the Hopper's new project, The Ride, re-packaged and under the label of Canaan Records to be launched early September in time for the National Quartet Convention.

Everyday Driven Announces Release of New Album

May 31, 2007 – Nashville, TN – Industry veterans Buddy Mullins, Paul Lancaster, Channing Eleton and Kerri Mullins proudly announce the self-titled album release of their newly formed powerhouse group, “Everyday Driven.”

This highly anticipated project features critically acclaimed vocalist Buddy Mullins of the “Gaither Vocal Band”, Dove award winning Paul Lancaster of “The Martins”, award-winning pianist Channing Eleton of “Gold City” and classically trained vocalist Kerri Mullins. The four unite their voices in music while sharing their passionate love of Jesus Christ to everyone they minister to.

With four remarkable paths behind them, these talented musicians joined together at just the right time to fulfill their vision. “I've been a part of Gospel music almost all of my life”, states group member Buddy Mullins, “and I can truly say that I'm even more passionate today about the message that we bring. This is music for God's people to remind us that who we were, we are no longer because of Him.” Group member Kerri Mullins describes their journey as “God’s Big Dream” and says the group continues thanking God for “the opportunity to do what they love most.”

Equally exciting is the reuniting of members Buddy Mullins and Paul Lancaster, who performed together with “The Mullins” in the late 80’s and “Sunday Drive” in the 90’s. The two once again cross paths and unite their distinguishable sound and harmony. Paul Lancaster stated, “I have spent over twelve of the past twenty years singing with Buddy. He and I have enjoyed ministry on many different levels, but to be back together as Everyday Driven, is more than the formation of a group or project, this is like coming home.”

This album is a compilation of profound lyrics and memorable tunes with its roots deep in the songs that have shaped the church of today. As their debut release, Everyday Driven demonstrates their calling as a group called to minister to the church of today. “We as individuals have been challenged with questions like, 'What kind of eternal difference am I making in someone's life?’" states group member Channing Eleton. "Everyday Driven has a genuine aching inside to see people turn to Jesus. Already, we have witnessed miracles and seen God heal and mend broken lives."

Kerri Mullins describes how Everyday Driven can minister to a hurting world, “We all hurt, we all cry, and we all need someone to say its going to be okay, but until we truly believe God for what His Word says, life can seem like one big web that we can't seem to find our way out of. This project is a statement of faith.”

“To give up is not an option, to get the message out is our passion, to have His presence is our promise,” Buddy Mullins exclaims of “Everyday Driven’s” passion for seeing people be encouraged and come to Christ through their lyrics. “Our lives are now His song and our lyrics are forgiven and free. Join in and let's sing.”

Everyday Driven plans to set off their first tour this fall performing in a wide variety of churches and cities all over the Southeast including Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Georgia and The Carolinas.

Rusty Golden, Jerry Salley Make History With EHSSQ’s Single “John In The Jordan”

Rusty Golden has his first number one single for his BMI publishing company Rusty Golden Music. The song, “John in the Jordan,” was co-written with Jerry Salley and recorded by Ernie Haase & Signature Sound for their album “Get Away Jordan.”

The disc debuted at the top of “Billboard’s weekly Top Christian Albums chart on February 10 of this year and on “Billboard’s” online Top Christian & Gospel Albums. The DVD by the same title also debuted at number one on February 10 on the magazine’s weekly Top Music Video Sales and also on the online “Billboard” Comprehensive Music Videos. According to the quartet, this was the highest debuting album for a quartet in the history of "Billboard's" charts.

The single is the first song in history to capture the number one spot in all four leading gospel trade magazines ' singles chart – “Singing News,” “Powersource,” “American Christian Top 40” and “Gospel Music News” singles.

Golden is thrilled that his first number one in the publishing company is a gospel tune. “It is a miracle – a God thing,” Golden says. “When it first looked like it was gonna go number one, my dad (William Lee Golden of the Oak Ridge Boys) told me I better have some more songs ready to go because people will start to ask me what else I have. So Jerry and I have been working hard and we’ve got so many other great songs, I can’t wait for people to hear them.”

Golden grew up in and around gospel music, from his grandmother who has not given up hope that he will become a preacher to his dad, a member of one of the best known gospel quartets of all time. He has been a recording artist for Asylum, Epic and Capitol Records. As a songwriter Rusty has been an exclusive songwriter for Warner/Chappell, EMI and PolyGram Music Publishing. He received first gold record when he was 24.

“God is blessing me,” Rusty acknowledges. “I know there is a lot going on in Christian music but my choice is to write for Southern Gospel. That is where I feel I belong.”

Others feel the same way. Dottie Rambo, one of Rusty’s earliest influences and with whom he played drums when he was 13, says, “I'm so proud to see Rusty writing and spreading his gift to the world in song. I've known him since he was just a baby almost and to see what he has allowed the Lord to do in his life makes me even more proud of him.”

Dottie adds, “I know more great songs will come from this man and you will see a legacy of his music for years to come.”

Joe Bonsall and Duane Allen of the Oak Ridge Boys, who literally watched Rusty grow up, add their own thoughts. Joe says, “Rusty is a consummate songwriter and his recent leading to write more Gospel songs has already been a great Blessing.” Duane adds, “Rusty is one of the most gifted people I know. He can play, he can perform and he can write. Years ago I realized he had the ability to pour his heart into his writings.”

Both men expressed their happiness in the direction Rusty’s music is taking. Joe says, “I love Rusty and recently I have read and seen some great interviews with him wherein he has talked openly about how God has been working in his life. I am so happy for him! Just imagine the songs that are coming our way!”

Duane agrees, saying, “I am so happy for Rusty that his music is being recorded. He has more great songs in his catalog and his future is very bright.”
