image
Group Continuing to Gain Momentum at Radio & Touring

BLADENBORO, North Carolina – The Dove Brothers Quartet’s latest single, “I Can Pray”, just reached the #1 spot on the upcoming July 2007 Singing News Top 80 – the Southern Gospel industry’s most recognized radio airplay chart. This is the Dove Brothers Quartet’s first #1 hit on the chart, as well as their fastest rising single to date.

In addition, “I Can Pray”, which was penned by Nathan Markee, is currently spending its 10th consecutive week in the #1 spot on the SoGospelNews.com Top 40 Weekly chart, becoming the group’s second career #1 hit on this specific chart. The group previously spent three weeks in the top spot with “Anything But Ordinary, Everything But Typical” from the album of the same name in January of 2006. “I Can Pray” has also been voted as the #1 Fan Favorite on the chart four times and has been in the top five fan favorites 10 times so far.

The song also recently reached the #1 spot on the SGUSA Weekly Countdown, #1 on the Christian Music Weekly Southern Gospel Top 25, #3 on the Gospel Music News Top 100, #17 and rising on the SGMusicForum.com Top 20, #22 and rising on the PowerSource Magazine Top 100 Southern Gospel Chart, and #48 and rising on the Christian Voice Magazine Top 100. The song is also in high rotation on most Southern Gospel internet radio stations such as GlobalSouthernGospel.com, SouthernSpinRadio.com, RealSouthernGospel.com, SGMRadio.com, and many more.

“The response we have seen from this song is just awesome,” mentioned Jerry Martin of the Dove Brothers Quartet. “God is truly using this song because of its wonderful message. We are just excited that God has allowed us to be the ones to share it with the rest of the world.”

“People are just connecting with this song more than any other song we’ve recorded,” mentioned McCray Dove. “The song has a simple truth attached to it, and people can’t get away from it. It is really exciting to see how people have responded to the song.”

“I Can Pray” is the debut single from the group’s critically acclaimed Sonlite Records album Never the Same. Anyone can hear the song by visiting the group’s website where the song is currently streaming.

In addition to the strong success of “I Can Pray”, the Dove Brothers Quartet are experiencing what is their most successful year as an organized group to date. The group was recently interviewed for the Gaither Homecoming Radio Hour where Bill Gaither and McCray Dove spoke of the group’s significant growth and exposure over the last couple of years.

“It’s important that we as a group realize where we came from and what brought us here as well as what the future holds for us and our genre,” mentioned McCray Dove. “While a lot of people grew to love us because of songs like ‘Get Away Jordan’ and ‘Didn’t It Rain’ – we also have to be sure and help bring in new fans – and that’s what songs like ‘I Can Pray’, ‘Anything But Ordinary’, and ‘One More Miracle’ are doing.”

The group has also been nominated for several awards already this year. The Dove Brothers Quartet were nominated for eight SGN Music Awards earlier this year. The popular quartet received nominations for Song of the Year (for “One More Miracle”), Album of the Year (for Never the Same), Male Group of the Year, Best Live Performer, Traditional Southern Song of the Year (“One More Miracle”), Traditional Southern Album of the Year (Never the Same), Special-Event Project of the Year (for Shout It Out), and Fan Favorite Artist of the Year.

In addition, the group was invited to perform their current single, “I Can Pray,” at the SGN Music Awards Celebration which took place on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in Smyrna, Tennessee.

Also, the group was nominated for Artist of the Year at the 3rd Annual SGMG Harmony Honors this past January.

“We can’t believe how amazing this year has been for us and our ministry,” mentioned Jerry Martin of the Dove Brothers Quartet. “In only five months this year, we have experienced so much, and we can only attribute that to God having his hand all over this group. We are so excited to see what the rest of 2007 and the future holds for our group. Only God knows what He has planned – but we can’t wait to see it all unfold.”

The Dove Brothers Quartet will continue their I Can Pray Tour throughout the remainder of 2007. The tour will make stops all over the United States, and the group will make appearances at some of the industry’s biggest events like the National Quartet Convention, 8th Annual SoGospelNews Fan Festival, Suwanee River Jubilee, Grand Ole Gospel Reunion, Diamond Awards Program, and many more.

Georgia Youth Wins Randall Franks Trophy at 1890s Day Jamboree Fiddle Contest

image
Fiddlers and cloggers from five states descended on Ringgold, Ga. May 26 to compete in the 1890s Days Jamboree Fiddlers Contest. Twenty-six fiddlers rosined up their bows and more than 50 cloggers kicked up their heels to win over $5,500 in prize money.

“Our event grew by leaps and bounds this year and we look forward to its continued growth,” said event chairman Lewis Taylor. “We saw a great deal of talent on this stage from 16 months old and up and all of them gave it their all.”

Aerin DeJarnette, 17, of Snellville, Ga. won the Randall Franks Trophy at the 1890s Days Jamboree May 26. DeJarnette first won her 16-21-age category for the chance to compete. In the fiddle off, she faced Ashley Sullivan, winner of the 22-50 category, of Mount Juliet, Tenn., who placed second, and Mack Snoderly of Clyde, North Carolina, winner of the 51 and up category who placed third.
DeJarnette, a Georgia native began fiddling at age five with an interest in Bluegrass music cultivated by attending multiple festivals with her grandparents. She is a member of “Fiddling Siblings” with her older brother and younger sister, who also play fiddle. She has competed in competitions in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. Former awards include Georgia Official State Beginning Fiddler Champion and the Junior Fiddle and Open Division champ at Annual Southeastern Cowboy Gathering Fiddle Contest among others.

The team clogging competition was won by Rhythm and Motion of Cookeville, Tenn. with Rocky Top Revue of Franklin, Tenn., taking second place; Rhythm and Motion Explosion of Cookeville, Tenn., winning third place; and Little Rock Preview of Franklin, Tenn., taking home fourth place.

The top prize is named in honor of Appalachian Ambassador of the Fiddle Randall Franks, “Officer Randy Goode” from TV’s “In the Heat of the Night.” From the stage he cheers the top three competitors on in their bid to win the Randall Franks Trophy, the $500 prize, and an invitation to compete in the Grand Master Fiddle Championship October 6 at the Nashville Convention Center as part of the IBMA World of Bluegrass in Nashville, Tenn.

Once holding the title of Georgia State Bluegrass Champion, the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame inductee is a former member of Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys, Jim and Jesse Virginia Boys and numerous other groups who as a solo performer often shared his talents for the Grand Ole Opry.

“It’s an honor to see so many talented and energetic performers carrying on the traditions of Appalachia through their love of fiddling and clogging,” he said. “The community of Ringgold is honored to have the distinction to bestow upon our champion fiddler a place in the national championship. This is a rare occurrence and we thank the GMFC board for recognizing our community and state.”

The next 1890s Days Jamboree Fiddlers Contest will be Memorial Day weekend Saturday 2008 at the Ringgold Depot in Ringgold.

Maryetta Ambassadors Win Dignity Hospice Talent Search

image
(Goodlettsville, TN) - The Second Annual Southern Gospel Talent Contest was another huge success for Dignity Hospice this year. Singers from West Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio made their way to the Coalfield Jamboree in Logan Saturday night in hopes of signing a Nashville Recording contract. After listening to 28 talented contestants, the judges, the Eddie Crook Recording Company and last year’s contest winner, Tonia Ward, chose the Maryetta Ambassadors of Verdunville.

The trio consists of Gary Doss, Marsha Doss, and David Kirkendoll. Once their names were announced, the singers sat down at an onstage table with Dave Wilcox of the Eddie Crook Company and signed a one-year deal with the Nashville recording company. The group will record a ten-song CD for the Cedar Hill recording label some time this year. They will have two songs released to national radio, and will be featured in a Nashville photo shoot.

The event is an annual benefit to help raise money for Dignity Hospice, a nonprofit organization, serving terminally ill patients and families of Logan, Mingo, Lincoln, Boone, and Wayne counties of West Virginia.

“Many patients do not have insurance, Medicaid, or Medicare to pay for hospice care,” a statement from Dignity Hospice said. “In those cases, Dignity Hospice pays for it. That includes paying for services, equipment, medications, and so much more. It takes money to do this and that is why these fundraising events are so important to our communities.”

“We just ask that everyone pray about what God would have you do,” said Jerry Martin of the Dove Brothers. “We hope that all will be able to attend the concert and show support for the Rosa family, but we know that a lot of people can’t attend for various reasons. However, your donations will definitely help this family in need.”

In addition to the Dove Brothers Quarteet, the Southern Gospel trio G.L.A.D. will also be appearing at the concert.

For those who cannot attend the concert, donations can be send to the Dove Brothers office at 713 South Main Street, Bladenboro, North Carolina 28320.
