Kenny Bishop Featured On The Gospel Greats Radio Program

LEXINGTON, KY - Southern Gospel recording artist Kenny Bishop will be the featured artist on The Gospel Greats radio program. The award winning show is set to air the weekend of May 5th.

"As a teenager, I remember asking my boss at the local fast food restaurant where I worked if he would schedule me for the earliest shift on Saturday mornings so I could get home in time to listen to The Gospel Greats program that afternoon," Kenny said. "I'd hear Paul chatting with my heroes and just dream of the day I'd have a chance to talk to him myself. I don't know how many times I've had the privilege now, but every one of them is a dream come true for me."

The most recent broadcast will feature several songs from Kenny's latest recording on Daywind Records. Kenny will share thoughts about the purpose, motivation and intention of the project. Listeners will also learn how they can hear a special expanded interview with Kenny beyond the regular broadcast.

"This record is very singularly focused," Kenny said. "I was thrilled to be able to sit down with such a professional and talk about it. We felt the sweetness of God's touch while we visited, and kept on recording."

"For well over twenty years we've considered Kenny a good friend and have enjoyed visiting with him (on air and off) whenever possible," host Paul Heil said. "His recent experiences have proven to him once again that God's grace is sufficient, and that's a great reminder for us all. Please listen as he talks about his ever-growing understanding of grace and how it can impact your life and the life of every Christian."

The Gospel Greats program has been on the air for over twenty-five years. The show is currently heard on more than 200 radio stations across the United States and Canada, and is heard around the world on the Internet and on satellite radio. The weekly, two-hour show is produced in Lancaster, PA.

Brittni Ward and Mother Escape Serious Injury

Gospel recording artist Brittni Ward and her mother, Tina Ward, escaped serious injury in an automobile accident on Sunday night, April 22. The Wards were returning to their home in Hattisburg, MS, following a weekend concert in South Georgia, traveling in the westbound lane on I-10 near Crestview, Fla. As they approached an overpass, they swerved to miss a large wooden packing crate which was in the middle of the highway. They lost control of the car which rolled over, crossed the median and came to rest on its wheels in the eastbound lane of the Interstate. The vehicle was totaled.

Although neither of the Wards was wearing a seatbelt (“Not smart!” commented Brittni.), there were no serious injuries. “It's an absolute miracle that we're okay! God really had His hands on us — literally! He held us in our seats,” she said. Both Brittni and her mother were checked out in the emergency room. While both sustained some bruising and soreness, they were able to continue their trip home.

A quick call to friends in the area, Terry and Tammy Kirkland, brought some much needed help. “They drove up to help us get our stuff together and get ourselves home,” Brittni said. “They're absolute sweethearts and I'm so thankful for them.”

Brittni, an 18-year-old soloist with two top 80 charting songs to her credit, has recently released “In Jesus Name,” from her latest CD, Ever Near. The song was released through Heritage Communications.

Multi-Talented Pianist, Roy Webb, Releases Solo Project

image
One of Southern Gospel Music’s most talented pianists, Roy Webb, pianist for Ernie Haase & Signature Sound recently released his debut solo recording, YOU RAISE ME UP. The recording is a compilation of several of Webb’s favorite songs. “This is something I have been wanting to do for quite some time, and I’m thankful I finally had the opportunity,” Webb says.

YOU RAISE ME UP contains classic hymns, as well as several praise and worship songs, including Roy’s all-time favorite, Above All. “Lenny LeBlanc came to my church about nine years ago,” Webb explains. “He sang several songs everyone knew and then the words to this song popped up on the two large screens on each side of the stage. It was a song he and a friend had just written. The song spoke to my heart. From the first time I heard it to now, it is my favorite praise and worship chorus...ever!”

In addition to Above All, the recording contains the title cut, as well as hymns, What A Friend We Have In Jesus, Wayfaring Stranger, Tell Me The Story Of Jesus, Softly And Tenderly, Just A Little Talk With Jesus and I Surrender All. With each selection, Webb’s exceptional musical ability shines brightly. Webb’s energy and enthusiasm is most evident on this recording, just as it is each time this extraordinary pianist steps onto a concert stage with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound “Every night I’m on stage with Signature Sound I can’t believe I’m actually doing this for a living,” Webb shares.

The 36-year-old Dayton, OH, native started playing piano at the age of 16, yet continues to strive to perfect his talent. He studies piano at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, which allows him the opportunity to study a wide variety of musical stylings. This diversity is reflected on YOU RAISE ME UP. “What A Friend We Have In Jesus has a real jazz feel. The Swing Low Medley has a blues feel, and I Surrender All has a very simple, traditional arrangement. We tried to include something for everyone,” Webb says.

Roy Webb’s debut solo recording YOU RAISE ME UP, may be purchased on-line at http://www.erniesigsound.com

The Isaacs In The Midst Of West Coast Tour As New Recording Hits Stores April 24

image
Nashville, TN - It’s been two years since the multi-award winning musical group collectively known as The Isaacs released their last recording; however, for Isaacs’ fans who have been anxiously awaiting new music from this much loved musical family, the wait is finally over. Tuesday, April 24, The Isaacs’ 30th album, titled BIG SKY, will hit stores nationwide. The project, produced by Mark Bright, who has produced recordings for the likes of Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts and Sara Evans, is a stunning, eclectic and joyful compilation, which breaks new musical ground.

“Our goal in going with Mark Bright was our confidence that he was someone who knew about acoustic music but someone who would push us,” longtime group member Ben Isaacs says. “We wanted to be challenged. And man, did Mark step up.”

BIG SKY is the band’s second release for Gaither Music Group. Their debut effort, Heroes, earned numerous awards from multiple musical genres, and several cuts achieved national charting success, as well as Song of the Year honors from the Gospel Music Association and Southern Gospel Music Association.

Much like Heroes, BIG SKY celebrates the priorities of life and the pursuit of happiness as designed only by God. “Overall,” vocalist and mandolin player Sonya Isaacs explains, “BIG SKY is all about the fact that life is good and God is good. It’s a message of hope and our way of encouraging folks to just enjoy the life they’ve been given and to be grateful for each new day.”

With each cut included on the recording, The Isaacs sing about the complex places where faith and real life collide - the struggle, the trial, the victory, the triumph and the truth. “We didn’t compromise what we believe with this album,” Rebecca Isaacs Bowman says. “We just exploded what we believe...If you want to reach the masses, you have to have a sound that reaches this generation.”

BIG SKY obviously represents a bold, new chapter for The Isaacs, yet it is totally indicative of who they are and who they have always been. “My dream and aspiration for BIG SKY,” family matriarch, Lily Isaacs states, “would be that we would reach even more people with this message of hope, people outside our expected circles. There’s a whole world out there who needs that hope, the hope we have in Christ.” With BIG SKY, The Isaacs convey that message of hope.

As BIG SKY releases, The Isaacs are in the midst of a 10-day trip to the West Coast, which includes stops in Phoenix, Fresno, San Diego, Bakersfield and Anaheim. A complete touring schedule, as well as information regarding how to order the new Isaacs’ recording is available on-line at http://www.theisaacs.com

GMA Announces Winners Of Special Awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – April 22, 2007 – The Gospel Music Association (GMA) announced the recipients of its prestigious GMA Special Awards, according to John W. Styll, president and CEO of the GMA. The recipients were honored at the annual Monday Morning Live membership meeting today, which kicked off GMA Music Week 2006.

“We congratulate each of the deserving recipients and are grateful for the role they each play in furthering GMA’s mission of exposing, promoting and celebrating the Gospel through music,” said John W. Styll, president of the GMA. The recipients of the four award categories are:

Impact Award
The Impact Award is presented to a non-artist individual or organization that has made a significant contribution to the gospel music industry. The 2007 Impact Award went to Apple’s iTunes. iTunes, which was first introduced in 2001, is a revolutionary software application which organizes and plays digital music, music videos, television shows, games, podcasts and feature length films on its popular iPod digital media player. The virtual iTunes Store, which sells 1.25 million songs every day, has prominently featured Christian and gospel music since the beginning, often positioning Christian and gospel artists on its front page or on featured playlists alongside top artists from a variety of genres. iTune’s embrace of Christian and gospel music was evident in 2006 when it partnered with the GMA and the Christian and gospel music community to offer exclusive music downloads of performances from the 2006 GMA Dove Awards. Additionally, iTunes featured all the 2006 Dove Award winners on a special Dove Awards page.

Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an entity rather than an individual to recognize major contributions to the gospel music community for 20 or more years. This year, the award goes to the incomparable classic hymn “Amazing Grace.” For more than two hundred years, churches around the world have sung the familiar words, “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.” It has been sung by Elvis Presley, Mahalia Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Pavarotti, Rod Stewart, Mary J. Blige, Ray Charles, and Bono. Earlier this year it was the subject of a box office hit movie, “Amazing Grace” which also featured a new version of “Amazing Grace” by Chris Tomlin, last year’s recipient of the Dove Award for Artist of the Year. This now universal song, first published in 1779, was written between 1760 and 1770 by GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame inductee, John Newton, captain of a slave ship for many years until his radical religious conversion in 1748. As with other hymns of this period, Newton’s lyrics for “Amazing Grace” were sung to a number of tunes before becoming linked to the now familiar melody that appeared in American hymnbooks in the 1830s.

Outstanding Mainstream Contribution Award
The Outstanding Mainstream Contribution to Gospel Music Award is given to the person or entity outside of the gospel music industry that has helped bring gospel music to a wider audience. This year’s honoree is one of today’s hottest filmmakers Tyler Perry. Two of Perry’s wildly successful feature films, “Diary of a Mad Black Woman,” and “Madea’s Family Reunion,” prompted widespread discussion among industry watchers about whether middle-class African Americans and the faith community were not being addressed by mainstream Hollywood movies. To date, Perry’s work has grossed over 75 million dollars and has earned several BET and MTV awards. Of his success at the box office, Perry has said, "Hollywood is finally waking up to the fact that people who go to church also go to the movies. I'm not sure what took them so long to see that or how long they'll keep it up."

Grady Nutt Humor Award
Grady Nutt, who starred on TV’s “Hee Haw” for many years, was a beloved friend of Christian music. After he was killed in a tragic plane crash in 1982, the Grady Nutt Humor Award was created in his honor. This year’s recipient is Big Idea. In 1993, Phil Vischer decided to prove that media could have a positive impact on the lives of children and founded Big Idea Productions, Inc. Together with longtime friend Mike Nawrocki and one employee, Big Idea produced its first show, “Where’s God When I’m S-Scared?” and sold 500 copies by mail. Since then, with the help of a tomato named Bob and a cucumber named Larry, Big Idea and its groundbreaking VeggieTales has become a best seller at Target, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Amazon.com, and Christian retailers all over the world. Big Idea’s award-winning VeggieTales animated series has sold more than 47 million videos and over seven million albums of chart-topping audio. Big Idea released its first feature film; “Jonah–A VeggieTales Movie,” which grossed over $25 million theatrically. It will be followed up in early 2008 by the new CG-animated family film “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything–A VeggieTales Movie,” which will be released in theaters by Universal Pictures.

Scott Campbell Radio Award
The Scott Campbell Radio Award honors outstanding efforts and contributions in broadcasting. This year’s honoree is EMP Broadcasting’s Alan Mason. Mason has been an active contributor to the Christian music industry since his career began nearly forty years ago. From his humble beginnings at a small daytime radio station in Vancouver, Wash., that featured religious talk and underground rock, to his current role as Director of Research at EMF Broadcasting, Mason has been impacting the world of Christian broadcasting nationwide. Mason’s impact on Christian radio includes top rated KCMS in Seattle, a station that has achieved top tier rankings in one of the most unchurched areas of the country. His involvement in the initial research project for WAY-FM was a catalyst for the company’s growth to more than 400,000 listeners and nine owned and operated radio stations. Mason’s expertise was instrumental in helping WGTS in Washington, D.C. to grow to one of the most listened to Christian stations in America, strategically positioned in the nation’s capital to help influence the entire globe. Now with his current work as Director of Research for EMF, Alan is in a key position to monitor trends, develop strategies, and influence a company that is a major player in the industry.

Rob Gregory Award
The Rob Gregory Award is given for major contributions made to the community through the medium of radio. This year’s honoree is Allen Henderson of HIS Radio. Henderson began his career in broadcasting 35 years ago. Obtaining a degree in theology and as an ordained minister, Henderson fulfills his life-long passion for ministry through broadcasting. He also is involved in local church ministry leading worship and speaking. Henderson has been with HIS Radio since the beginning 24 years ago, and became General Manager in 1990. During his tenure, HIS Radio has expanded to over 30 frequencies across the Carolinas, Georgia and Alabama. A major goal of Henderson’s has always been to reach out to local communities and make a difference for Christ by serving on various boards and advisory councils. Allen encourages the next generation of Christian broadcasters by serving as an Adjunct Professor in the Communications Department of North Greenville University.

Dottie Rambo, inspiring youth and their futures

image
Songwriter of the Century Dottie Rambo shared her talents to raise funds to encourage musicians talented in Appalachian musical arts in a concert April 14 in Ringgold, Ga. The event hosted by the Share America Foundation, Inc. brought Southern gospel music fans from across three states to this Mayberry-like town nestled in the Northwest Georgia mountains.

“Ms. Dottie’s presence extended far beyond just raising money for scholarships,” said Randall Franks, Share America president. “She gave a very unique opportunity of encouragement to one young musician from nearby Dalton, Ga. that he will never forget.”

Banjoist Garrett Arb, 14, was the organization’s featured youth performer for the event.

After hearing Arb performing with emcee Franks, who is a fiddler best known for his role as “Officer Randy Goode” from TV’s “In the Heat of the Night,” Rambo invited the two musicians to join her on stage for a song. After the song was completed, she just would not let them leave and the trio were soon joined by bassist Jeff Hullender of The Jeff Hullender Family, singer Tim Owens of the Testimony Quartet and pianist Curtis Broadway of The Pelfreys.

A wave of energy filled the church and the impromptu Dottie Rambo jam session fueled by a never-ending stream of requests from attendees brought the near capacity crowd at Ringgold United Methodist Church to a hand-clapping fervor in the spirit.

Before closing for the evening Rambo led the congregation in prayer for the future ministry of Arb’s talents on the banjo and encouraged them to support him in his music.
“He will still be playing his banjo when we are no longer here,” as she related a story about her starting on her own career at the age of 12.
The event raised approximately $2,000 for Share America and its Pearl and Floyd Franks Scholarship Fund. The Share America Foundation, Inc. presents scholarships to talented musicians who excel in the Appalachian musical arts.

Rambo kicked off the organization’s 2007 concert series that continues May 11 at 7:30 p.m. with the Marksmen Quartet and a special performance by Randall Franks at the Ringgold Depot. Admission is a $5 donation. Seating is limited to 300. For more information, contact The Share America Foundation, Inc. P.O. Box 42, Tunnel Hill, Ga. 30755.

Exciting things are happening with 2nd Generation. They just recently signed with Rick Hendrix Company for radio promotion. Steve Green has had to take a sabbatical from the road to be with his family and Jimmy Hoskins from Blue Springs, Missouri will be filling his part..

"We can’t wait for everyone to hear the new 2nd Gen! Jimmy has an awesome voice, kind of a Kenny Rogers/Phil Collins sound, and the harmony blend is great. But, most importantly he has a heart for ministry. He told us he knew God had something more in store for him and had been praying for a year that God would send someone his way. And guess what, when we knew that it was a possibility that Steve was going to need to come off the road, we were praying the same prayer. So, God has placed us together and we can’t wait for the blessings that are ahead," stated Elaine Parks.

Dove Brothers Headline Brazil Mission Benefit

image
(Rutherfordton, NC) - This summer, a mission team from North Carolina's Sandy Run Baptist Association will travel to Brazil where a construction team will assemble a church building for a needy congregation. An evangelism team will also be making the journey to conduct worship services and witness one-on-one in Brazilian homes. During previous summer trips, the Team has seen hundreds of decisions for Christ in Brazil where the people are very open to hearing and accepting the Gospel message. The construction team also built a church in Brazil in 2005.

The award winning Dove Brothers Quartet will headline a special benefit concert for the Brazil Mission Team on Thursday, April 26 in the spacious RS Central High School Auditorium, located on US Hwy 221 just north of Rutherfordton, NC. The concert begins at 7:00 PM. Also appearing on the program will be regional favorites, the Carolina Quartet (formerly the Melody Masters), and the event's local sponsor, Southern Sounds Quartet from Rutherford County, NC. All profits from this event will be donated to the 2007 Mission Team to defray the costs of building materials (estimated at $10,000) and for the team's traveling expenses.

Concert tickets are $12.00, and will be available for purchase at the door on the day of the concert. For more information, call 828-248-3559.

Regarding this highly anticipated event, McCray Dove (DBQ Owner/Manager/Lead Singer) commented, "We are honored to appear at this special concert for mission work in Brazil. The Dove Brothers have a heart for seeing the Gospel message spread to the entire world."

David Bruce Murray (SSQ/CQ Pianist) added, "The current radio single by the Dove Brothers is so appropriate for what we have planned on April 26. Even if you're unable to support the concert through the purchase of a ticket, YOU CAN PRAY for this experienced Mission Team to have a successful and safe journey. We already know the hearts of the Brazilian people will be open and receptive to the Good News of Jesus Christ. Our goal is to assist the Mission Team through this concert by equipping them with the necessary tools for effectively accomplishing their tasks."
