Naomi & The Segos Announce Farewell Tour

Macon, GA - Legendary southern gospel performer Naomi Sego has announced plans to dissolve her group and semi-retire. This year marks the final tour for Naomi & The Segos.

To celebrate Naomi’s career spanning nearly 50 years, a grand finale concert is being planned for November 2007, which will be the group’s last appearance. More details about the finale concert will be announced at a later time.

Since joining The Sego Brothers in 1958, Naomi has enjoyed a long, successful career as one of gospel music’s most prominent female vocalists. The Sego Brothers & Naomi gained national attention in the late 1950’s with their first radio hit, Satisfied With Me. They were also the first group in gospel music history to sell more than one million copies of a gospel recording with Sorry, I Never Knew You.

By 1979, Naomi was the only remaining original member of the group. In 1967, Lamar Sego left the group and formed The Lamar Sego Family with his wife and daughters. In 1979, W.R. Sego was forced to retire and come off the road due to health complications. (He passed away in 2004.) Shortly after W.R.'s retirement, James Sego, Naomi's husband died during open heart surgery. In 1983, Naomi married Vernon Reader and officially changed the name from The Sego Brothers & Naomi to Naomi & The Segos. Vernon died in 1998 due to declining health stemming from diabetes and heart disease.

Naomi has faithfully continued to progress forward with positive results, in spite of the many heartaches and hardships she has endured. A string of hit songs, numerous awards, accomplishments and accolades all serve as a testament to Naomi’s talent, integrity and dedication through the years.

Although they have not disclosed details about their future plans once the tour has ended, current group members Kasey Kemp and Nathan Stoops are respectfully supportive of Naomi’s decision. Kasey stated, “I consider it a great honor to have been a part of the final years of Naomi’s career. Singing alongside her has been a dream come true for me. I hate to see it end, but I have peace in knowing that this is all in God’s timing.” Nathan adds, “I will always be grateful to Naomi for giving me my start in gospel music.”

Naomi & The Segos are scheduling a limited number of appearances during their farewell tour from April to November. Few dates remain available. Anyone wishing to secure a date for the group to appear is encouraged to call Wilds & Associates at 205-662-4826.

After the finale performance in November, Naomi will take a much needed break until after the first of the year. She says, “I want to sing until Jesus takes me to my heavenly home. I promised the Lord a long time ago that I would sing for him as long as I was able, and that’s what I intend to do.” Naomi plans to make limited appearances on select concert dates throughout 2008.

In conjunction with their farewell tour, Naomi & The Segos are planning to release a new CD in coming weeks as well a new book. The book, not yet titled, will be an autobiography chronicling Naomi’s life and career.

We are all extremely excited for the future," stated Annie. Troy added, "We are all family! Each of us have been fans of each others music for a long time." Katy continued, "Now that we have combined our music, it is so much fun listening to how our voices blend and how well we know each others songs. SouthernGospelHits.com Hits the Air!

"Playing great gospel music is our business...and business is good!" That's the comment that FowlerComm Christian Entertainment President Bryan K. Fowler made today when we asked about the much anticipated launch of FowlerComms new Southern Gospel Music Station http://www.southerngospelhits.com.

Southerngospelhits.com launched earlier today in a private ceremony in Louisville, Ky where its broadcast originates in what employees have named "Southern Gospel studios 1" marking the launch of a station that presents Southern Gospel in the highest level of professionalism, a level that has marked a new threshold to hold all stations accountable to preserve the integrity of what we think to be the best music on earth.

Southerngospelhits.com is owned and operated by FowlerComm Christian Entertainment and seeks direction from a non-owning, non-interest Board of Directors. FowlerComm is operated by Bryan K. Fowler and his wife Lois whom serve as President and Vice-President respectively. Fowler is a life long Broadcaster having programmed and worked for broadcast tycoons ClearChannel Worldwide, Citadel Broadcasting and several independent stations and programmed his first Christian Music Station at the age of 18 in Ohio. "If you listened to my first station in Gallipolis, Ohio in 1995, WJEH, and you listened to The Rock!, you would find them to sound very similar. I mean business and I take my calling very seriously. Perfection is not a luxury when I program a station for the Christian Community-it is mandatory", said Fowler.

The Board of Directors is comprised of Dr.Clacy Williams, an educator from West Virginia who served on The Governors Cabinet and also owns a group called The Gospel Harmony Boys, Multi Award Winning songwriter and Southern Gospel Artist Kirk Talley, one of the industries most talented musicians Kim Collingsworth of The Collingsworth Family, Tim Maxwell, President of New Vision Communications, a growing communications company along the East Coast, and Jonathon Bond, multi-talented singer, songwriter and speaker of the group Young Harmony.

Sylvester, GA. Ricky Atkinson, owner/manager of Ricky Atkinson and Compassion announces the return of one of Southern Gospel Musics most popular baritone singers. Scott Thomas, formerly of Tony Gore and Majesty, along with his wife Tessa will join Ricky to perform all Compassion dates beginning April 1,2007. Scott and Tessa are from
Temple, Ga.and currently preach full time in evangelism.

Ricky states,"Scott is one of Americas most loved and well recieved singers, and Im really glad he and his wife Tess decided to come on board. They are also tremendously talented song writers, both achieving very successful chart topping songs over the past several years, so now we have 3 writers in the group. As our schedules permit, Scott will continue to preach some revivals, and I also will continue to do occational solo dates as I have the last 3 years, but the group tour will continue to be our main focus.I am totally excited about the addition of this family to the group."

Scott and Tessa, replaces the departed Samuel and Labreeska Atkinson, who will be leaving the group to begin a part time duet ministry. Ricky's younger brother,Samuel states, "The schedule of RAC over the past few years is the reasoning behind our decision. We will continue to sing, but on a more limited schedule. We also would love to start a family soon and thats tough on the road.We have enjoyed our time of traveling with Ricky and we wish to say thank you to all the RAC fan and friend support over the last 4 years. Pray for us as we pursue this new venture in our lives."

The brand new RAC album will be available around April 1,2007 when the new members of the group begin touring together. The album will be called, "Borrowed Treasures" and will feature songs that Scott, Tess, and I have written for other groups, songs that we have been a part of over the years. Its a neat concept for our first album and we believe SGM fans are gonna love the new sound, and the songs were putting together for this debut project."

A brand new Ricky Atkinson and Compassion website will be up very soon, so log onto http://www.rickyatkinson.com and watch for the updates and the changes.

Vine Records Celebrates Four Dove Award Nominations

NASHVILLE, TN (February 20, 2007) – After less than 1 year in operation, Vine Records is pleased to announce 4 Dove Award nominations for 2007. Announced earlier today at a press conference, the legendary Lewis Family, recent inductees into the Hall of Honor of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), were nominated for Bluegrass Recorded Song of the Year (“My Cross”), as well as Bluegrass Album of the Year (“Flyin’ High”). After twenty-seven years of full time ministry, perennial favorites, the Cumberland Quartet, were also nominated twice – for Bluegrass Album of the Year (“Acoustic Hymns Vol. 1”) and Christmas Album of the Year (“A Christmas Homecoming”).

Kevin Ward, co-founder of Vine Records, expressed his reaction to the news: “These nominations are such a wonderful affirmation for the ministry of our artists, and we’re looking forward to moving ahead with the momentum that has been building during our first year as a label.”

According to Wayne Haun, co-founder of Vine Records, “It has been an incredible beginning for Vine. We’re the new kid on the block and we’re a small company. I think these nominations have proven to us that our artists have a lot of friends and fans out there who really like what they do.”

The nominated projects are now available through Vine Records and Christian bookstores everywhere

Prayer Request for Don Baldwin

We have just learned that Don Baldwin has taken a turn for the worse. He has pneumonia and congestive heart failure, and the outlook doesn't look good. Don had surgery several weeks ago to attach one of his lungs to his rib cage - keeping it open better to help his breathing., But, he suffered a stroke in the hospital as he was recovering from the surgery. He just entered rehab earlier this week.

Don was the founder, manager, and original baritone and emcee for the Couriers. He was presented with the "Living Legend" award at the Grand Old Gospel Reunion last year. He also was one of the emcees of the National Quartet Convention in years past and operated a popular recording studio (Baldwin Sound Productions) for many years. Many well-know Gospel groups
recorded there.

Dottie Rambo Alive, Death Anouncement False

image
Nashville, TN-Rumors created by on-air DJs, message boards and a misinformed concert promoter spread that legendary Gospel Music singer/songwriter Dottie Rambo had passed away last night (Thursday, February 15). These rumors are absolutely false, Dottie is alive and well and will be in the recording studio on Monday recording vocals for a new cd.

"This morning, calls, emails and messages filled not only our office, but our booking agent Beckie Simmon's office as well. At one point I was actually on the phone with someone who gave me the news while I was standing right next to a very LIVE Dottie Rambo." says Rambo's manager, Larry Ferguson. "Dottie's health is great, though she still battles with pain from spinal surgeries. Incidents like this show how powerful the internet and radio airwaves are. I am in hopes that in the future our professional media will verify such facts as this could do serious damage to anyone's ministry and bring lots of unneeded sadness to people who love and admire Dottie, or any other artist."

Rambo remains extremely active in the music industry, most recently singing at the Gaither Homecoming filming in Nashville and continued touring. Rambo has taken 4 weeks off the road to finish up some projects she is working on in addition to the new album. Rambo will resume her touring schedule on March 16 in Alexandria, LA at the Riverfront Center with the Blackwoods, Kingsmen and the Stamps. Vine Records Introduces Lillie Knauls, Gaither Homecoming Favorite, To Southern Gospel Radio

image
NASHVILLE, TN (February 16, 2007) – Vine Records is pleased to announce that the first radio single from Past and Present, the new Lillie Knauls solo project, has been shipped to Southern Gospel radio.

An original member of the Edwin Hawkins Singers, Lillie Knauls is well-known to Gaither Homecoming fans as the “Hat Lady” with the big smile.

“Although I’ve been involved with Southern Gospel music during my years of touring with the Gaither Homecoming Tour, this is my first opportunity to share the music I love with the Southern Gospel radio listeners,” states Lillie Knauls.

Knauls and the Edwin Hawkins Singers reached the top of the Billboard charts with their hit, O Happy Day, and Lillie traveled with this record-breaking ensemble for years before she followed her heart to become a solo artist.

It seems only fitting that her first single is a new arrangement of the song that opened doors for her almost 40 years ago. Her version of O Happy Day offers the same instrumentation as the original, but to bring the past into the present, she has invited the popular Talley Trio to sing the background vocals. Recently, they performed this selection for the new Gaither Homecoming video taping in Nashville.

Past and Present is now available through Vine Records and Christian bookstores everywhere.

After a quarter century, Greenes’ Jubilee enters new phase

image
BOONE, NC - The Greene’s Annual Gospel Singing Jubilee will be entering an exciting new chapter with this year’s activities, to be held on August 10th and 11th. North Carolina’s largest Gospel music event, which has always been an outdoor experience at the fairgrounds, will move indoors to the beautiful Holmes Center, located on Highway 321, at the entrance to Appalachain State University, in Boone, North Carolina.

According to Tony Greene, the reason for the transformation is due, in part, to his brother Tim’s ongoing health issues. “This move inside will make it possible for my brother to again participate wholly in the Jubilee,” he said. “I know Tim wants, more than ever, to be on stage with us. Of course, we want this, too. He also wants to be with fans and ministry friends he hasn’t seen in some time.”
Also, holding the event inside accommodates guests in a climate-controlled environment with superior acoustics, enlarged stage area and professional lighting. Giant suspended screens will assure that every Jubilee ticket-holder has a great seat; and with reserved seating for up to 4,000, along with a convenient and attractive facility, the change will create an even greater atmosphere for the powerful lineup of Southern Gospel artists who will be performing this year. On Friday night, for example, the Hoppers, Ivan Parker, Gold City, the Primitive Quartet and, of course, the Greenes are scheduled to take the Gospel music stage. The night will prove to be inspiring and encouraging for all who attend. Then, on Saturday night, Brian Free and Assurance, Jesse Dixon, Tony Gore and Majesty, the Chuck Wagon Gang, the Down East Boys and the Greenes will sing God’s praises. “This will be the biggest musical event in the Greenes’ Gospel Jubilee history,” Tony added, noting that every member of the Greenes' family is excited about the upcoming Gospel music extravaganza.

“To cap off a wonderful weekend, we invite everyone to a Sunday morning service, at 10:30 a.m., on Aug. 12th, at our home church, West View Baptist Church,” Tony added. “The Lesters will join the Greenes for a humdinger of a service.”

For camping enthusiasts, the Boone KOA campground will be the Gospel Singing Jubilee headquarters, with shuttle bus service to and from the Holmes Center available. Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for a special Thursday night worship service, on Aug. 9th, at 7:00 pm. The service will be focused toward Jubilee RV-ers. For camping or cabin reservations, call KOA at (828)-264-7250.

Boone and the surrounding area also features a variety of first class motel accommodations, including such favorites as Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Suites, Country Inn and Suites by Carlson, Best Western - Blue Ridge Plaza, Scottish Inn, Red Carpet Inn, Super 8 Motel, Fairfield Inn, Ridgeway Inn, Smoketree Lodge, Blowing Rock Victorian Inn, Hillwinds Inn, and Hampton Inn. For details, call the Boone Area Chamber of Commerce at (800) 852-9506, or email: (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
“We are all so thankful and blessed to have dear friends that continue to support the Greenes and this wonderful endeavor,” Tony concluded. “We expect this year’s Annual Gospel Singing Jubilee to be one of the most rewarding of our years in Gospel music. We cordially invite everyone to come, expecting a special blessing from above.”

Tickets for the 25th Annual Gospel Singing Jubilee will go on sale Monday, May 7, 2007, at 9:00 am. For reserved tickets, call (828) 262-6603. Artist Circle tickets: $24.50; Lower Arena, $21.50; and Upper Arena, $18.50. Church groups receive a $2.00 discount when ordering a minimum of fifteen tickets.

Anthony Facello - A New Chapter

image
It has been nearly a year ago that popular tenor singer, Anthony Facello made the decision to leave the rising new group Mercy's Mark. After having spent the last 15 years touring and singing non-stop with not only that group, but with such top groups as Heaven Bound and The Journeyman. Anthony came to the point in his life that he began to take a long look at where he was at, and he began to seek God even more so for clearer and defined direction.

Anthony stated in a recent interview, "Don't seek Him unless you want to find Him, because He will show up and He will give you the answers.... it may not be what you want to hear, but His voice will be heard. I always thought I would be in a group. I absolutely loved the groups that I have been so fortunate to have spent so many years with, they have been my family, and I have some cherished friends for life...and who knows I may end up again with a group. But for right now, I have a message of hope, restoration and God's unconditional love that I want to share through the gift of my music and my own personal testimony. There are so many people out there who are hurting, wounded and struggling, and its my sincere prayer that possibly with me being able to share something that I myself have walked through, and am experiencing victory in, that will give them a glimmer of hope. He has been so faithful to me and I am so excited to be back out amongst my friends sharing my heart through my song."

Anthony recently was a special guest at the AQUA Convention in Nashville, Tn. The outstanding Exalting Him talent search winner and Daywind Recording artist, Karen Harding, joined him on the song. The crowd gave him a rousing standing ovation when the song finished. 50th Anniverary and Honors for Hoppers

image
MADISON, NC – Along with celebrating fifty years of ministry, the last few months have been extremely exciting for one of Gospel music’s most enduring family groups, the Hoppers.

For example, on Tuesday, January 9th, the Hoppers received the prestigious Harmony Honors Impact Award, sponsored by the Southern Gospel Music Guild. The presentation was made at the Renaissance Center, in Dickson, TN.

Earlier the group won several prestigious honors from the Southern Gospel News. Last October, the Hoppers won numerous Southern Gospel Music Awards, including Favorite Mixed Group; Favorite DVD, for Jerusalem; Favorite Alto (Connie Hopper) and Favorite Female Vocalist (Kim Greene Hopper). In September, Kim Hopper won both the Singing News Fan Awards for Favorite Soprano & Favorite Female Vocalist, at the National Quartet Convention, at Freedom Center, in Louisville, KY.

Along the way, they have been topping the national charts with great songs like “He’s Erased It,” “I’ve Come Too Far,” “Jerusalem,” and others. The Hoppers have always chosen songs that honor Christ and offer a strong and inspiring message.

“Awards from fans and our industry are so wonderful to receive, but it’s even more gratifying for each of us to know we are working to please our Savior. It is such a privilege to be in full time ministry, and we don’t want to ever lose sight of this,” said Dean Hopper, lead singer of the group. “The greatest award to receive is the ability to reach others with the Good News of Jesus Christ.”

Now that they are in their 50th year, America’s Favorite Family of Gospel Music has kicked off the most aggressive tour of their half-century career, the 50th Anniversary Heritage Concert Series. The Hoppers are as fresh and dynamic on stage as the message they sing about, and have been described as being at the top of their game.

This special anniversary year for the Hoppers has been marked by the successful release, at NQC, of their authorized biography, After All These Years. The handsome hardbound volume, published by Woodland Gospel Publishing, shares this family’s inspiring story. Readers have been fascinated to read about many of their experiences, trials and triumphs over the years. “We have been so appreciative of the many kind words about this project,” Claude added. “We hope it will continue to inspire others with their own personal walk with Christ.”

Recognized as one of the most successful Gospel music groups of all time, the Hoppers refuse to just sit back and rest on their laurels. With the release of their newest album, The Ride, they are again gaining the attention of music industry people and American Gospel music fans nationwide with a new selection of inspiring, creative and powerful songs that have astounding musical and vocal arrangements, with the assistance of A-list producer Larri Goss. Many consider this to be their best album to date. If the excitement level among group members is any indication of its quality, The Ride, should win a fist full of industry accolades in the coming year.

“I don’t know where all the years have gone,” said Connie Hopper. “However, this is an exciting time for all of us, and the Lord continues to bless in many, many ways. We still enjoy singing!”

The excitement builds for the Hoppers as the celebration year continues.

For more information about the Hoppers, write The Hoppers, 2811 US Hwy 220, Madison, NC 27025; or call 336.548.2526.

KGSG 93.7, “Simply Gospel Music”  2006 Mid-Columbia Gospel Music Top 40

KGSG 93.7 FM, in Pasco, Washington, aired it's eighth-annual Top 40 countdown program, "The Mid Columbia Gospel Music Top 40", on Saturday, January 27, 2007. Hosted by afternoon personality Mark Gibbson and evening voice Mike Edwards, the 5 hour program included give-aways every quarter-hour, trivia tidbits, and special artist interview segments with Richard Johnson of the Johnson Family, Mark Bishop, Brian Free of Assurance, Karen Peck of New River and Kenny Bishop, who was honored with the number 1 song this year. Afternoon personality Shari helped by answering phones and keeping Mark and Mike "on their toes" with her usual remarks.

Once again, record-breaking response to the program added to the excitement as the songs were counted down. Responding to the 20 over-the-air giveaways, listeners kept KGSG's phone lines busy trying to be the caller who would get free CD's and cash. A large number of listeners kept their radios on through the entire program, writing down each song in order to have a chance to win the Grand Prize
worth over $400. The prize was awarded to Karen, a listener from the small town of Echo, Oregon.

The top 40 songs were selected by votes from listeners and KGSG staff, and were chosen from songs that were on KGSG's regular charts during the year 2006. Each listener that voted received a project by a Gospel artist as KGSG's thanks for their voting. Sponsors of the 16 segments offset the costs of the program and provided cash for prizes. Prizes were also donated by many promoters and artists in the
Gospel music industry.

The first 5 songs in the 2006 Mid Columbia Gospel Music Top 40 were The Prodigal's Dad (Kenny Bishop), He Knows My Name (McRaes), Do You Want to be Forgiven? (Signature Sound), Sky Full of Angels (TaRanda Greene) and Don't Let the Sandals Fool Ya (Triumphant Quartet). KGSG, "Simply Gospel Music", started in April of 1997 as a brand-new station, and has only played Gospel Music in its nearly ten years of existence. The station is on-air 24 hours a day, and broadcasts in stereo to listeners as far as 100 miles from the transmitter located in Southeast Washington with over 150 hours of locally-originated programming. Listener and community response to the station has been steadily increasing, and nearly all programming is locally originated. KGSG is a charting station for the premier monthly publication in Gospel Music, the Singing News, which publishes their monthly Top 80 Chart. The station also provides weekly charting information to SoGospelNews.com, Gary Wilson's Southern Gospel USA countdown show, and the Christian Music Weekly. Other monthly charts include Gospel Music News, The Southern Gospel Music Forum and TheSouthernGospel.com
