All He’s Done For Me

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and as part of a tradition, you can count on us having turkey and dressing, ham, macaroni and cheese, along with many, many other vegetables. We generally gather together as families and enjoy the company of each other. Ginger and I go to her parents for lunch and my parents for dinner. We spend time with each family sharing what all GOD has done in each of our lives and giving thanks. At my parents, instead of saying the blessing over the food on this day, we each share something that GOD has done over the past year for us. It is amazing just what we hear from each person. Most people know about the car accident that GOD brought me through, and the cancer that GOD brought Ginger through, but there is so much more. Here are just a couple of things: Our oldest boy, Josh was the Quarterback for the High School Football team (he is now in college Quarterbacking…we are old…lol) and had a bicycle wreck which cracked his cranium and his shoulder. The doctor said that his football playing was over for the year. They had been practicing and the season was two weeks away. Josh also had fluid draining from his ear which was part of the cranium issue. Long story short, Josh never missed a game, and was completely healed. Another thing that I wanted to share, we picked up a hitchhiker about 4 years ago and talked with him about JESUS, gave him a Young Harmony card and a ride. We received a call this past week with this conversation: “Johnathan, you won’t remember me but you and your wife picked me up walking in Florida about 4 years ago. You talked to me about JESUS and I just endured the conversation. As you let me out, you gave me a business card and I put it in my wallet. I ran across it many times remembering just what you said. I wanted to call you and let you know that I just gave my life to JESUS and I now am a born again Christian!” SO KOOL! It is amazing what all that GOD has done for us. Take this Thanksgiving month and recall all that HE has done in your life, then share it with someone. (Revelations 12:11) I hope you enjoy the words to the song, All He’s Done For Me.

Here are the lyrics to the song:
All He’s Done For Me
The other day I over heard someone laugh and say.
I don’t understand why that man over there carries on that way.
He jumps and shouts, clap his hands, acts so undignified.
With a smile on my face, tears in my eyes, here was my reply:
You don’t know all He’s done for me.
You don’t know how many times, His love has rescued me.
He took my life, I though I’d destroyed, filled it full of peace and joy.
You don’t know all He’s done for me.
When I hear them sing look what the Lord has done, I remember the time.
I was the one with a heart full of hate, about to lose my mind.
So how can I sit still if I hear someone say, “come on and Praise His name”.
Cause after all He’s done for me, I could never be the same.
So the next time you go to church and the worship begins,
I hope you to know, it’s not just a show to entertain our friends.
We're just people who know where we would be if Jesus hadn’t come in.
You would understand more, if you see where we are,
Then look where we’ve been.

The Anchormen - Dec 06

The first bit of news is Chad Smith our Baritone singer and his wife celebrated the birth of their first child. Her name is Hallie Faithe Smith, she was born on July 25th, she was 20 &3/8 in. and weighed 6lbs. 14oz. Chad carries pictures with him everywhere he goes, and is very proud of their new addition.
We recently enjoyed a cruise to Grand Cayman Island, and Cozumel Mexico where we had a terrific time with our friends Mercy’s Well. We sang, and eat and then we eat some more, and the we eat again! While on this cruise our Bass Singer Will Lane got engaged to his girlfriend of 2 years, Mindy Glover of Pikeville North Carolina. The two plan on a wedding the December month of 2007. We are all proud of the two and wish them well!
I have told you about our Baritone, and Bass singer and Alex Woolard is filling the Tenor position. I, Jason Funderburk still singing lead and EmCee for the group feel that this is still a Blessing to be doing what we do. Each and every night we see people come to know Christ through salvation and we are so unworthy of that. Through our daily devotions on the bus we have a bond now that feels better than ever. So with this first article I want to say thank you to all of you who have supported us in our endeavors and ask that you continue to pray for our Ministry. Until next month God Bless you and , “I’ll Meet You On The Mountain!”
In Christ,
Jason Funderburk

Hearts of Faith - Dec 06

Brenda, my sister and partner in this ministry, has suffered since 1983 with major allergies. Although she has several triggers, her top indoor allergy is cigarette smoke; her top outdoor, ragweed. While she can, for the most part, control the inner trigger, ragweed blooms in late summer and doesn't die out until the first hard frost (in Ohio, that means from August until mid to late October). When first diagnosed, her ragweed sensitivity was off the chart; even after 20+ years of allergy shots, her ragweed sensitivity is still in the "high" range.
Because of her allergies, her home and car a/c run from April through October ... and she about freezes me out in the van and hotels while traveling. But, we've found simple solutions and things have worked well in that regard. But outdoor summer concerts can really be a struggle for her. In fact, an outdoor concert actually triggered allergy-induced asthma for her. So she deals with both!
In late July, we joined the COUNTRY GOSPEL MUSIC ASSOCIATION and went to their Eastern USA Convention in late August. They not only hold evening concerts, but also morning worship services. During the Friday morning worship service, Brenda received prayer for her asthma. Since that time, she has not used her inhaler ~ which she normally uses two to three times daily during peak ragweed season.
In late October, we were at the CGMA's International Conference in Branson. After one of the morning worship services, a guy came to her and said the Lord wanted him to pray for Brenda for her sinuses. He did and she immediately began doing something she hadn't done in eight years ~ breathing through her nose! While pregnant with her daughter in 1998, she began using nasal spray for relief since she couldn't take her normal medication ... and she became addicted to the spray. She was constantly
spraying her nose, although she was trying to ween herself slowly by diluting it with saline. Once again, God provided her with a miracle.
I just want to encourage each of you to be thankful for things that may even be tough your life. One day, you may find that God is ready to give you the miracle you need.
In HIS Service,
Donna Strong

It’s A Sure Thing

Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily. 20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. 21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cae’sar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David.) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
There really was a baby born to a virgin. His name was Jesus. He lived a sinless life. He died on a cross. His death paid the penalty for our sins. He rose from the grave. He is alive. He now sits at the right hand of God the Father. He is coming back someday. It’s a sure thing.
till next time…
Sally

December Reflections

I miss a lot of things about Christmas. I miss the scent of a real pine tree. I miss the big chunky Christmas lights and the glittery “Merry Christmas” banner that used to swing in the cold winter air in our little river town. I miss the night-before-Christmas smells – the aroma of bread toasting in the oven and the scent of simmering celery, giblets and sage for mom’s stuffing. I miss the pink divinity mom used to make and the pumpkin bread she baked in a coffee can.
I miss my brothers and sisters living in the same house with me and all the commotion that Christmas morning brings, and I miss the board games we played for hours after Christmas dinner – laughing and talking and just enjoying each other’s company.
It seems a lot of things are missing nowadays when it comes to Christmas – not the least of which is Christ. I couldn’t help but shudder the other day when I passed a church whose marquis proudly read, “Come Join Our Xmas Celebration”. You can even buy so-called Christmas cards now that read, “Merry Xmas”. It’s as though this world knows it should be commemorating something, but can’t quite figure out what it is.
I think the real answer is that not many people want to commit to saying it - Christ. They fear referring to Christ as though their belief in Him would somehow connect them with the same sorts who stand gazing upward on their lawn, hoping to be taken up by aliens. So they leave Him out and in His place they put an “X”. They have just removed the only truly meaningful element of the entire season.
What does “X” mean anyway? Well, maybe these days it stands for X-tremely X-hausting, or X-orbitant prices – all the things Christmas has become. We shop till we drop, max out the credit cards, and have no earthly idea what the whole day is about. We decorate four Christmas trees, say yes to every party, and schedule nearly every second of the season. There’s no time for games or relaxing with family, no time for fun Christmas crafts or baking with the kids. Even making Christmas cookies has been X-changed for a quick stop at the bakery.
This year I am determined to make Christmas what it ought to be. I plan to shop wisely, decorate moderately, relax and watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” ten times if I want to. But most of all I plan to take the time to reflect on the real meaning of Christmas and be thankful for God’s greatest gift to us – Jesus Christ.
Oh, and yes, I plan to color.
Merry CHRISTmas!!

Christmas Gifts From God!

All along the way God has given me so many other amazing gifts that I could not begin to deserve! Like four awesome kids (One of whom was born one week before Christmas in 1987, Jason). He has given me a ministry that reminds me everyday of HIS miraculous ways and that HE has a plan for each of our lives and whatever it is, it is good stuff! He has given me (as His word says) a hope and a future!
This week we have been at Dave Edward's Breakfast Club in Florida! We are having a great time. We will be leaving after the concert in the morning and heading from 85 degrees to 5 degrees in Missouri...eek! But this has been an incredible week. We sure love Dave! I have to share with you an amazing thing that happened and truly it is one of those Christmas gifts from GOD!
We were singing at the Breakfast Club on Wednesday morning in Clearwater, FL. We got up very early...lol...but WOW was the drive and the early rising and the everything worth it! The crowd was so wonderful and so encouraging. We find so often they minister more to us than we do to them. Anyway, toward the end of the program my son-in-law Eddie made his way to the piano to play and have us sing the song "You Are Loved." We have seen God use this song in such powerful ways and this day was no exception. There was a man approximately 75 years old sitting in the front and when I looked down at him, I saw him weeping during this song. Soon after as Dave led in a precious invitation time. This man gave his heart to JESUS! That makes every mile worth it all! This is the greatest encouragment to our ministry! We have seen over a thousand people saved over this last 5 years. We have seen God restore marriages, lives, and so many hearts! This is our AMAZING God and we are so grateful! He is the GIFT GIVER and HE just NEVER stops!! He Lives to Love each and every one of us!
The song "You Are Loved" has proven to be a message that so many people need to hear. We actually heard from God in a very special way about this song. No...it was not an audible voice, but He layed so strongly on our hearts to re-record that song and include this new acoustic version on the album coming out in January called "Live to Love." The whole album developed a theme of LOVE! Only God could have done that. We prayed and He planned! He sent the songs and we are so thankful and excited...More Christmas gifts from God!
I hope you get some wonderful gifts this Christmas and I hope you give some away! So many people need to hear they are loved and it is never too late to find out. Just ask a 75 year old man in Clearwater, FL!
MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hope's Call
“Christmas” what does it mean to you?

Christmas has become a festive event with decorations, candies, cookies and cakes. Folks partying, shopping and celebrating for all the wrong reasons. It makes me sad to think of how much time and effort some folks put into their "holidays" without considering how very blessed we are to even have Christmas.
There is so much controversy over "Christ"mas that it nearly makes me ill. The news last week about a man being shot over a game has grieved my spirit so much. I can imagine all the demons were dancing and having a ball over that one.
Christmas to me is a time to be with family. To show them how much you love them. Gift giving is not wrong, for the Bible teaches us that it is better to give than to receive. But have we forgotten that it also teaches us that we should give out of the goodness of our heart not expecting anything in return?
Too many folks today think by giving something of themselves gives them the right to expect something back. That is not giving. I'm so glad that when God gave His only begotten Son, that He didn't change His mind and take Him back. That would be like offering someone a key to the only door out of prison and then change their mind. I call that cruelty. God is not cruel; He is loving, kind and compassionate and most of all He is a giving God.
We all know the story well; The birth of Jesus. It's one that I will never grow tired of hearing. . Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Is your Inn too full to receive Jesus this year? Is your shopping cart full of trinkets and treasures that you have forgotten to make room for the Savior?

The King’s Heralds - Dec 06

Things are beginning to slow down a bit for us. Out of the last 60 days we have been home about 10. We did two tours back to back. The first to the Midwest and the other to New York City. We had the opportunity to minister in several of the inner city churches there. We wound the trip up in North Carolina at the Southern Baptsit Convention. We saw many old friends and had the opportunity to make new ones. Now that things have slowed a bit, we are looking forward to spending time at home with family, putting our feet up, and just enjoying the festivities of the season.
2007 promises to be one of the best years ever. Thanks to the good Lord and loyal friends we are looking forward to singing in new places (more on that later) as the doors open. Please keep us in your prayers. There are several exciting things on the horizon. We will keep you informed as some of these things are still taking shape.
Please keep your eye on our schedule. We'd love to meet you. You can do so by logging onto http://www.theheralds.org
