Behind the Songs

After seventeen years in fulltime gospel music, The Bradleys have finally realized one of their fondest goals- The first volume in a series of gospel music productions for children. Recently, nominated for a Dove Award for their latest CD with Lamon Records entitled, “So Glad”, The Bradleys keep moving forward!
Jennifer McCallister, backed by the Sounds Of Praise Children’s Choir, leads an outstanding collection of children’s songs. The Choir is a group of home school kids organized by the Walkertown Home Educators. Jennifer has been working with the choir for the past three years. Now, the kids are taking singing engagements in churches and nursing homes around Winston-Salem, NC.
It is the goal of the group to reach children all over America and around the world with these special messages of God’s love. In an effort to help spread the good news of salvation to the youth, The Bradleys in cooperation with Word on the Street Ministries plan to give a Bible and CD to as many kids as possible.
“Children are the innocent victims of our culture which is becoming more Godless and immoral every day,” says group member Shirley Bradley, “We love kids. We want them to know that God loves them and that there is a place of safety and peace in this troubled world---IN CHRIST”
Some churches who have previewed the CD have offered to help with the distribution of free CD’s to children who haven’t heard the gospel, and to kids whose families cannot afford to buy one. One church is sending some to an orphanage in Romania.

Future plans include: DVD, performance tracks, printed music, and Bible school/Sunday school programs.
The Bradleys, Jennifer McCallister, The Sounds of Praise Children’s Choir, Lamon Records of Charlotte, NC, Salem Sound of Winston Salem, NC, Producers: Nelson McSwain and Dave Moody, musicians: David Johnson, Lewis Wells, Josh Moody, Dave Moody, Bobby McCallister, Milton Smith, and Richard Putnam all have contributed greatly in creating this masterful and inspiring CD which we are confident will be a wonderful tool in helping to win our young people to Christ.
Rainbows Around The World -Volume One -Every Little Lamb Needs A Shepherd will be available December 2006. For more information visit http://www.lamonrecords.com or http://www.thebradleys.net or write Rainbows Around The World, PO Box 5864, Winston-Salem, NC 27113

Songs from the Heart: God’s Still God

I was looking through a magazine one day while traveling and I noticed a porcelain figure of Jesus. This was of the story where he was at a wedding and the wine had all been consumed. You know the story of where he took ordinary water and turned it into the best wine around, right? (see John 2:1) I also saw a Jesus figurine of yet another miracle. (Matthew 14:16) I then began to think of the many miracles that JESUS performed in the bible. I thought about where he spit on the ground and made mud, then rubbed it on the man’s eyes, (John 9:6) and how he made the lame to walk (Matthew 11:5). Then I began to think of a preacher friend of mine that was hooked on drugs and alcohol and then GOD set him free, then about the testimony of the young lady, Angie, that GOD reached out to at a nude bar. WOW, as if that weren’t enough, I began to thank HIM for when HE healed the bones in my face and back, just with a touch. The song then began to be born. I am so thankful that GOD isn’t someone or something from the past, but a very present help trouble. (Psalms 46:1) Here are the lyrics to the song. Please take time to realize that songs are more than just tunes, but sometimes testimonies AND words of encouragement to all that hear them.

Here are the lyrics to the song:
God’s Still God
(Verse One)
He took water, turned it into wine.
He healed the cripple, gave sight to the blind.
With just a few fish and a little bread,
There were over 5,000 people that were fed.
(Verse Two)
He took a drunkard, washed him white as snow.
And a lady of the night, He cleansed and made her whole.
There was a body where all the bones were crushed,
Until the hand of Jesus healed with one mighty touch.
(Chorus)
Now God’s still God, He has not changed.
God’s still God He’s always the same.
Just believe and you will receive,
He’s waiting on you to say God’s Still God
(Bridge)
What about you, are you living in pain?
You don’t have to live that way.
When Jesus died on Calvary,
He gave His life for you to believe,

Heats of Faith - Nov 06

My name is Donna Strong and I am part of a female duet with my sister, known as HEARTS OF FAITH. We began singing in 1982 with our parents, who retired from singing in 2001. We felt God still calling us to the music ministry, so we continued on as a duet.
We live in the Dayton/Cincinnati area of Ohio and sing about 60-70 dates yearly. In 2006, we've sung in (10) different states, so God is truly opening doors for us. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to write an article each month to keep you informed about what's happening in our ministry.
Ministry ... that word brings about a lot of different thoughts. However, each one of us is a minister of the Lord in various areas ~ whether it be preaching; singing; greeting at the church door; being a helper when needed; etc. Each of us is responsible to do what God calls us to do ... and we need each other! No one of us can do it alone. It takes each of us working together to complete God's work. Let's make a pledge now to do more in the coming year to work together so that God's work is increased.

The Exploding Disco Ball

I thought it would be nice to have outlets on both sides of the room, and those wires were in just the right place. We found the correct switch in the fuse box and killed the power to the wires to install an outlet. I confess that electrical work is not an area I have dabbled with, so I don’t claim to know much. I did notice, however, that the fuse to the wires Tim was holding was larger than the 110’s that led to normal outlets. I asked Tim several times if he was sure the fuse was NOT a 220. He repeatedly assured me it was a 110 and proceeded to install the outlet. When he finished, I asked him if we should test it. Tim said, “Yeah, grab a lamp.” The first thing I found was a disco ball Rachel had left when she moved into her dorm room, so I plugged it up and flipped the switch. BOOM! The bulb exploded! Fortunately, I hadn’t used a regular lamp, but the disco ball instead, which shielded us from the flying glass. That just goes to show how God protects us even when we are idiots.
God is a powerful God. Are we wired to receive His power? God cannot become smaller to adjust to our agenda. We must grow to meet His. His will is for us to become like Christ. Philippians 2:5 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
We tend to struggle with the servant issue. This is what is more commonly known as pride. The bigger we see ourselves, the smaller we really are spiritually - too small to receive the power of God that comes from His Holy Spirit. Only 110 volts strutting around like we are 220’s.
We must humble ourselves. But how? I got a good lesson in humility a couple of months ago when our septic tank went on the blink. Long story short, I had to take a bucket and empty the tank enough to replace the pump and install an outlet. Tim talked me through it while he was replacing the brakes on Rebecca’s vehicle. I wasn’t above the septic job, especially since we couldn’t afford to hire anyone else. The humble challenge for me happened several weeks later when I realized that the new pump was not working. I apparently unplugged one of the wires to the pump while trying to lower the concrete lid by myself. The new pump had frozen up and I was back to square one. I dug to the tank, lifted the lid, and grabbed another bucket. I stood there looking at the tank and I didn’t feel quite so motivated to do that job a second time. We were trying to learn songs for our new album; we had a radio single we were trying to promote; it seemed like a battle just to get through each day. The temperature had dropped to the 30’s and it was cold. Tim had not been able to get his infusions for two months and was already on antibiotics to try and stay healthy. As I began to drain the tank again, the tears began to fall. I wasn’t crying about my situation though. I found myself telling God, “I’m not above doing this. I’ll do whatever you want me to do. I’m not too good to dig up this tank.” I noticed that the more I prayed, the less difficult things seemed to be. Tim was even able to rewire the new pump for me. Wait a minute… rewire the pump! This is the same guy who tried to kill me yesterday with a disco ball!
till next time…

November Reflections

We hear so much about weight loss and of course, the holidays, are particularly difficult. It’s especially hard if your sister has one mission in life – to feed the planet, or so it seems at Thanksgiving. Friends dropping by Darlene’s annual holiday feast can scarcely believe their eyes when they see the entire kitchen loaded with turkey and oyster dressing, ham and roast beef, vegetable side dishes, casseroles and homemade breads. Did I mention the eight foot dessert table?
Of course, we all make our contributions as well and it’s not long before the table is groaning under the weight of it all. The counter is lined with crockpots and roasters and the stovetop keeps pots of potato and Italian wedding soup or ham and beans warm. And if you look hard enough, you’ll probably find cornbread somewhere nearby. It’s always fun to see what new concoctions my other sister Sheryl and my nieces have come up with, and then there’s always the UFO’s, or Unidentified Food Objects that appear – dishes we’re not familiar with, but usually wind up being someone’s favorite.
I thought this month I’d deviate a little from my usual article and let you in on a few recipes that usually find their way to our Thanksgiving table. Enjoy your family and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Pumpkin Roll
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup pumpkin
¾ cup flour
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp ginger
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp salt
1 cup chopped nuts
Beat 3 eggs at high speed for 5 minutes. Beat in 1 cup of sugar. Add 2/3 pumpkin. Blend well. Mix flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt together. Fold flour mixture into pumpkin mixture. Pour into a greased and floured cookie sheet. Top with the chopped nuts. Bake at 375 F for about 12 minutes. When done, turn out on a bath towel. Sprinkle with powdered sugar – then roll up with towel and let cool. When cool, unroll and spread with filling – then roll back up.
Filling:
1 cup powdered sugar
1- 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese
4 tbsp softened butter
½ tsp vanilla
Beat together until creamy
Darlene’s Turkey and Dressing
Dressing
2 ½ pkg. stale buns or 2 loaves of bread, toasted and shredded
½ bunch parsley – tops only
1 medium onion
Heart of one stalk of celery
1 can of oysters with juice
1 stick of butter
4 eggs
Thyme and sage to taste
Adolph’s seasoned meat tenderizer or seasoned salt
Pepper to taste
Cook together parsley, onion and celery in a small amount of salted water until tender. Add 1 stick of butter and let melt.
Cook turkey giblets in 2 quarts of salted water until tender.
Add onions, parsley and celery to toasted bread. Add giblet broth to dressing to desired consistency. Add eggs, seasonings to taste and oysters with juice.
Bake in foil covered pain at 225 F for 8 hours or stuff turkey and bake at 275 overnight (foil wrapped).
Turkey
20 to 24 pound Honeysuckle White Turkey
Thaw in cold water for about 24 hours. Clean pin feathers and rinse turkey inside and out. Sprinkle turkey with salt and poultry seasoning inside and out. Fill cavities with dressing and fasten with skewers. Place long pieces of heavy duty aluminum foil in a large deep roasting pan. Place turkey breast side down in the pan. Secure foil over turkey in both directions (sideways and lengthwise) to hold juices in. Place roasting pan on a large cookie sheet. Bake overnight or 8 to 10 hours at 275. Turkey will be very juicy. Remove from oven very carefully.
Note: If you’re looking for a pretty turkey, don’t use this recipe. If, however, you’re looking for a very tasty, tender and juicy turkey, this is it!
Sweet Black Cherry Salad
1 large or 2 small pkg. black cherry Jello
1 large can sweet black cherries (reserve juice)
1 large can pineapple tidbits (reserve juice)
3 oz pkg. cream cheese, softened
½ cup chopped pecans
16 oz bottle Coca Cola
½ cup reserved pineapple juice
½ cup reserved cherry juice
Heat juice and pour over Jello to dissolve. Stir softened cream cheese into the hot Jello until almost dissolved. Add fruit and Coke and pour into a pan to gel.
HAWAIIAN SWEET POTATOES
1 large can of crushed pineapple
1 tbsp corn starch
4 tbsp dark brown sugar
¼ tsp nutmeg
Dash salt
2 tbsp lemon juice
4 tbsp butter
6 medium sweet potatoes
pecan pieces
Miniature marshmallows
Drain pineapple well. Add water to pineapple juice to make one cup. Mix sugar, corn starch, salt and nutmeg together. Place pineapple juice with water, sugar, corn starch, salt, nutmeg, lemon juice and butter in saucepan. Cook over low heat stirring constantly until thickened and clear. Peel and cut sweet potatoes in half lengthwise. In a greased baking dish alternate with layers of sweet potatoes, and pineapple. Cover with cooked syrup. Sprinkle pecan bits over the top. Bake uncovered for 20 minutes or until tender. Dot top with miniature marshmallows and bake another 5 minutes.
Ham-Stuffed Manicotti
8 manicotti shells
½ cup chopped onion
1 TBSP vegetable oil
3 cups (1 lb.) ground fully cooked ham
1 (4 oz.) can mushrooms
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese, divided
3 TBSP grated parmesan cheese
¼ to ½ cup finely chopped green pepper
3 TBSP butter
3 TBSP all purpose flour
2 cups milk
Paprika
Chopped fresh parsley
1 tsp salt
Cook manicotti according to package directions; set aside. In a large skillet, sauté onion in oil until tender. Remove from heat. Add ham, mushrooms, half of the Swiss cheese and parmesan and set aside. In a saucepan, sauté green pepper in butter until tender. Stir in flour until thoroughly combined. Add milk; cook, stirring constantly until thickened and bubbly. Mix ¼ of the sauce into ham mixture. Stuff each shell with about 1/3 cup of filling. Place in 11x7x2 baking dish. Top with remaining sauce, sprinkle with paprika. Cover and bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until heated through. Sprinkle with parsley and remaining Swiss cheese before serving. Makes 8 servings. Note: Double the sauce for a creamier version – that’s my favorite.
Pistacchio Cake
1 pkg. yellow cake mix
2 small pkg. pistachio instant pudding
½ cup Wesson oil
½ cup orange juice (from frozen concentrate that has been diluted with only 2/3 of the water)
½ cup water
4 eggs
¾ to 1 cup Hershey’s chocolate syrup
Mix all ingredients except the chocolate syrup.
Grease and flour one large bundt pan. Fill the bundt pan with 2/3 of the cake mixture. Add the chocolate syrup to the remaining cake mixture. Mix well and pour on top of cake mixture in the pan.
Bake at 350 F for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Remove from oven and sprinkle top with powdered sugar after turning out onto serving plate. Center of slice will be filled with chocolate fudge.
SHERYL’S ITALIAN WEDDING SOUP
1 egg, slightly beaten
¾ pound ground beef
¾ pound ground pork
1/3 cup Italian bread crumbs
2 cloves garlic, diced
1 tbsp parsley, finely chopped
49 ½ oz can chicken broth
1 cup water
2 cups pastina or other small pasta
1 head Escarole (or 10 oz. frozen chopped spinach)
½ grated Pecorino Romano
In a large bowl, combine egg, ground beef, bread crumbs and garlic. Mix well. Shape into small meatballs. Bring the chicken broth to a boil, then drop the meatballs into the broth, simmering for 12-15 minutes, then add escarole. When escarole is almost tender, add pasta. Serve soup with Romano cheese. Good stuff!

Sharron Kay King – Nov 06

1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
I am so thankful I am in Christ! Things of this earth have become so irrelevant when I consider the cost of my salvation. Looking back on my life, I can honestly say, it's been the most valuable lesson I've learned. Being thankful for family, friends, and a career are important, don't get me wrong. But to be thankful for my salvation is far more important to me than anything I could ever obtain in this life.
Learning to hide myself in Christ was so hard for me. I felt that I had to be seen to be heard. But I had it all backward. The experience of being quite and hidden in Christ is when the real me came out. I am nothing and have nothing without Christ. I mean NOTHING! When we are hidden in Christ, that's all people see is Jesus in our lives. I still struggle with that. I think we all do. After all, we are human.
As we approach the season of Thanksgiving, I want to focus on the gifts God has given me... starting with a new lease on life. That is an everyday gift! I am thankful for my family. My time with them is much more memorable now that I am in Christ. They see me far more differently than in years past. I think they have learned to appreciate my walk with God. You see, I'm the only born-again Christian in my family. My children are Christians, but as far as my family, no. That makes it all the more important to be hidden in Christ.
I want to be even more thankful for the comforts and the joy's God has brought into my life; my home, my friends, my church and my career. All these things are of God and I acknowledge Him in all that I have. Again I say, I am nothing and have nothing without Christ.
So, in closing I encourage you to focus once again on the GIVER of your blessings. So often we think and dwell on the gifts and not the GIVER. Let us concentrate on being perfected in Christ. As we become hidden in Christ the world will see Jesus in us!
Colossians 3:14-17
14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Until next time; Chin up, journey on!
Many blessin's,
Sharron Kay

Gold City - Nov 06

Cruisin'....
As I said, we just returned from the Singing at Sea. The cruise was Oct. 30th - Nov. 4th. We set sail from Jacksonville, Florida, on Carnival Cruise Line's ms Celebration. Our first port of call was Freeport, on Grand Bahama Island. Wednesday, we visited the private island of Half Moon Cay. All of the guys had a great time spending a day at the beach, with their families. Our final stop was the capital city of Nassau. Several of us shopped at the world famous Straw Market. I am still tired, after haggling with the vendors. Along with Gold City, the groups included Legacy Five, The Hoppers, Greater Vision, The Kingsmen, The Inspirations and The Florida Boys. It was five great nights of Gospel music. If you would like to go on an awesome Christian vacation, this is the trip to take!

Jonathan Is Still Here...
To put any rumors to rest, Jonathan Wilburn is still with Gold City. It pains me to say it, but he is still here. Just joking!!
As you may already know, Jonathan did not make the Singing at Sea trip. He stayed home to be with his family during a special event. Jessica Wilburn's volleyball team advanced all the way to the Alabama state finals. Unfortunately, Jessica's team came up short in the championship game. On a good note, Jessica moved into second place for the state of Alabama, all-time aces record. This was only her Sophomore season!! Do they have pro volleyball??
We were glad Jonathan was able to be at home with his family. Bruce Talliaferro was gracious enough to go with us and fill the void. Who would turn down a free cruise? Seriously, Bruce is an awesome singer and did a great job. Thanks Bruce!!
Steve Ladd Update...
I just wanted to let you know that Steve is healthy and back to normal. Ok, let's just say healthy. I'm not sure if he's ever been normal. Thank you all for keeping him in your prayers!
Request, Request, Request!!!!!
Please call your local radio station and request our latest single, "Truth Is Marching On." Hopefully, you have already been hearing it. It is the debut single off of our brand new album, Revival. If you still have not purchased your copy, visit our online store to order yours today!
