March

Gold City - Mar 2006

image

I hope all is going well with you. Things are busy around here as we are keeping the roads hot and working on a new album. We have been having some great concerts. God has been moving and we have seen several people saved. That’s what it’s all about! In between concerts and recording sessions we are doing our best to sneak in as much family time as possible. Speaking of family time, my little Sadie is nine months old now, crawling all over the place and cutting teeth. She thinks her daddy is the bomb! (pride beameth forth)

Changes...

Well, the cat is out of the bag before I can get the news out to you as usual, but I will share it anyway for those of you who aren’t in “the loop.” Bill is leaving the road. As bad as I hate to see him go, we support his decision. He did a great job for us and we wish him the best. I know I am going to miss him. I have asked my dad to come with us until we find a replacement. (Yes, that is the best I could do) For anyone interested in applying for the position, you can email a resume and demo to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). You can also mail it to our office.

More changes...

We would like to welcome to our ranks Mr. Kyle Strickland. Kyle is our new sound tech. We have known him for most of his life as his family has been coming to see us for years. He also married my little sister, Amy. If my calculations are correct, that makes him my brother-in-law. Next time you see us, make sure to stroll by the sound booth and tell him to turn it down! Just kidding… stop by and say hello to him. I’m sure he’d love to meet you.

Never a dull moment...

I got a real kick out of this and I know you will. The other night we were on our way home and needed to stop for some liquid gold. (Diesel fuel) We were pulling into the truck stop when Jonathan noticed that a cow had escaped a nearby pasture. He asked me to stop the bus so I pulled off to the side of the road. I wasn’t sure exactly what we were doing but before I could pull the brake he had jumped off the bus. What happened next was nothing short of amazing. He started talking to the cow, and the cow was listening. She didn’t want to hear what he had to say at first and he had to be stern, but he and the cow had a good talk and Jonathan somehow talked her into going back into the pasture with all the other cows. He stepped back onto the bus with a proud look on his face, knowing he had done a good thing. Then Steve asked, “What’s that smell?” I’ll let you figure out the rest.

In the Midst of Sorrow

image
Hi everyone.

It's late at night, and tomorrow we will attend the celebration of the life of our friend Anthony Burger. It seems completely surreal, and unfair, that one only 44, so gifted, and a nice guy to be around left us so unexpectedly, but we have many memories of not only his music but meals shared with him and his family before a concert, him climbing on our bus just to hang out and talk, and his dry wit followed by that gravelly laugh (or his ferocious blinking of his eyes when he heard a bad note!). My dad, Roger, is honored to stand in for Anthony at the piano at his service tomorrow, and please be in prayer for everyone, especially the family, as they say goodbye.

We were not able to attend the funeral for another friend of ours, Doug Riley, but I'd also like to pay tribute to him and his family. Doug was a great guy who, like Anthony, never said too much, but played the drums excellently and had more friends than he probably ever realized. I remember the weekend before he died, we shared the stage with Gold City, and our sound engineer Greg and Doug sat together back at the house board sharing technical duties. Doug was talking and singing in my ear monitor trying to make me laugh on stage. He and Anthony may be up in heaven somewhere together, setting up a sound system!

Life has to go on even in unpleasant circumstances, and in the midst of all the ups and downs this month, we are hard at work on a new Talley Trio recording. This project will be available in June and features some incredible songs which I think are some of the strongest we've recorded. Can't wait for you to hear it.....

Tune in to TBN's "Praise The Lord" very soon and you'll see a familiar face. I'll be performing on "Praise The Lord" March 10, at 9:00 PM EST. I sang material from two of my solo projects to a most enthusiastic audience. Thank you to everyone at Trinity Music City for making me feel welcome. Circle the date on your calendar, and set your TiVo or VCR.

It's not too late to get your tickets for Singing In The Sun 2006! 5-6 of the top artists in gospel music will gather each night in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on April 26-29, and The Talleys will be performing on Friday evening, April 28th. Throughout the event you'll also enjoy such artists as the Hoppers, the Greenes, Tony Gore, Signature Sound, the Perrys, the McKameys, and many others. You can see more information on http://www.rayflynnpromotions.com.

Hug your friends and family and tell them how much they're loved, while you still can.

Until next time,

Lauren Talley

Psalm 101 - Mar 2006

Hello from Nashville!

I am writing from the studio this month! We are in the middle of cutting music tracks for our CD! We are so blessed to be surrounded by such gifted people. God's favor is so evident on this project.

I sit here in amazement as I watch this wonderful team of players, engineers and producers do what God has called them to do...create music! I hear the music being played through my head phones in the vocal booth, I can feel the energy and excitement coming from the players. As I sing the song from my heart, they interpret that feeling into their instrument. Here is a list of some of these amazing people!

piano, B3 organ & keyboards - Gordon Mote and Jason Webb
bass - Duncan Mullins
drums - Steve Williamson
electric guitar - Kelly Back and Bill Fulkerson
acoustic guitar - Bryan Sutton
steel and resonator guitar - Scott Sanders
fiddle - Aubrey Haynie

As executive producers, my husband & I feel like we have been "carrying this baby" for almost 2 years now. To finally hear the "sounds of labor" coming forth is quite thrilling. We felt so inadequate in our ability but we knew this is what God wanted us to do. When we checked into the hotel and spent some time in prayer before the tracking sessions, we asked God to help us by leading us in the right direction for each song. To help us convey our heart to the players After prayer, my husband opened the Bible and the page fell open to this scripture. Psalm 32:8 I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. Wow! What a comfort!

I am so excited about this CD. Each song is a powerful message of the Gospel put in a variety of styles. We feel there is something for just about everyone on this project. Our audience includes a wide range of listeners, and we wanted to include that on this CD. When Jesus died for the sins of the world, his hands were stretched out on that cross saying Whosoever will let him come. That meant everyone from the little old lady on the church pew to the drug addicted teenager in the crack house. It's our job to point them both to the same Jesus even if they are coming from different directions.

Next month we are back in the studio for vocals...so stay tuned!

God Bless,
Angela Fulkerson

King’s Heralds

Well we are off again! By the time you read this The King’s Herald’s will be starting our tour of the Pacific Northwest that will last the entire month of April. Wow! To be honest, it makes me kind of tired just thinking about it, but I know once the wheels get rolling I will be more than ready to get out there!!

So far, 2006 has been quite a busy year. Our first tour of the new year found us in Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida. We sang 30 concerts in 35 days! Seeing first hand the devastation caused by hurricane Katrina was heartbreaking. So many people are still in the process of rebuilding their lives after loosing everything. We need to continue to keep those folks in our prayers and realize that there is a mission field on the Gulf Coast where there is still much to be done.

On a happier note, we are getting ready to go back into the studio and start work on a new project. After 80 years in Gospel Music, this will be the first time that The King’s Herald’s have recorded in Nashville. We are excited to say the least. We have been working with several of the top songwriters and publishers in Gospel music and are amazed at the number of great songs that are coming our way. To tell you the truth, it will be hard to narrow the songs down to just 10 or 12. We also will be working with some of the industries top creative people from musicians, engineers, producer etc. More about that later.

One last thing. On top of everything else that’s going on, the group is planning to relocate in the next few months to the Nashville area. This is a big step since the Quartet has been headquartered out of Southern California for the past 65 years. This move will enable The King’s Herald’s to become more involved in the Gospel music community. Keep us in your prayers and we will keep you updated as things progress. In the meantime, don’t forget to visit our website at http://www.theheralds.org and order your copy of our new release entitled Encores which was reviewed last month.

Until next month, God bless and be sure to come see us when we are in your area.

How Will I Find You?

image
Greetings from Embrace!

Thanks to everyone who prayed for the Hand family during Paul’s recent surgery. Everything went well other than some post-operative discomforts. He’s doing well and returning to his normal activities slowly but surely. Please continue to pray for the general health of Embrace. Each of the three families has experienced illness recently but the Lord is providing healing. He is so good!

Family is such a vital part of our lives here on earth. Our spouses, parents, siblings, and our own children are among the greatest gifts that God gives to humanity. As our pastor reminded us in a recent sermon, God created us to live in relationship with others. The link that exists between family members is vital in helping us realize the plans that God has for us.

A precious friend of ours recently preached at our church about family. He asked the question, “What kind of legacy are you leaving for your children?” He spoke of the importance of a father’s love and of the impact that a father of integrity has on his family. Finally he began to share a story, the story of someone he knew personally.

He told of this man who was born in the 1910’s. At the age of seven, this boy’s parents divorced—a strict social taboo at the time, and how this boy was instantly a social outcast. He lived with his mother and when the Great Depression struck, he was forced to live on the street because there was no money for food. Alone, he was kicked from pillar to post and eventually was allowed to live with his aunt. Upon his arrival in her home he was taken into a bedroom where there was a soft bed with clean sheets. The aunt told him he could sleep in the room but that she didn’t like things messy so he would have to sleep on the floor. In time the boy went to live with his father, a severe alcoholic, and his stepmother. While there he became gravely ill with a mysterious set of symptoms. The doctors concluded that the boy’s stepmother had been poisoning him. This episode that nearly cost him his life put him in the hospital for a year and resulted in agonizing physical rehabilitation. Finally, this boy grew into a man and went away to war. He had married just before he left and while overseas he received a letter. In the letter his bride told of the loss of her younger sister. The younger sister was a Christian and her witness as she lay dying had led to the salvation of the entire family. Although skeptical, this young man agreed to accompany his wife to church upon his return home. Eventually he came to Christ himself and chose to live whole-heartedly for the Savior.

Our dear friend began to weep as he told that this man had been father to two sons, one a faithful minister and the other an evangelist who had led thousands all over the world to Christ. This man has several granddaughters who are all married to godly men and serving in their local churches and then, our friend said, “He has one grandson—me.”

We all began to weep as we realized he spoke of his own dear grandfather lovingly know as “Bud”. This man’s family had touched almost every family present that night in some capacity. When all those that had been ministered to in some way by this family were asked to stand, hundreds of people stood in that one room alone. Countless thousands could have stood the world over.

This one man had chosen to break the chains of his past and place himself in the loving care of the Savior. His faithfulness had resulted in innumerable lives being changed for all time and eternity. What a legacy!

My seven-year-old son and I were talking recently about heaven. His dad had the privilege of leading him to Christ a little over a year ago and Stephen is very curious about how things will be in eternity. He had asked many of the usual questions a child asks. Suddenly he became very serious and looked like he might cry. He asked me with deepest earnestness, “With so many people there, how will I find you?”

My eyes filled with tears and I told him what I felt the Holy Spirit had whispered to my heart, “When it’s time, I’ll know you’re coming and I’ll be waiting. You won’t have to find me; I’ll find you!’ He was satisfied.

I would challenge any one who is not living in a vital relationship with Christ to think about their family. I urge you to think about the legacy you are leaving to your children. What will you say when they ask, “How will I find you?”

God bless you—
Embrace

Maps, Steering, and the Driver’s Seat

I cannot believe we are already approaching springtime. It is peeking around the corner and I am curling my finger back toward me saying “Come On In.” I love spring! The weather in Tennessee is wonderful. You northerners know the old saying about March in the north. It comes in like a lion and it goes out like a lamb. I grew up in Michigan, so I know it well....brrrrrr! But here in Tennessee.....it comes in and goes out like a lamb. Thank YOU Jesus! Some people like winter....I am not one of them. I have been pondering alot lately...I tend to ponder...lol! In all serious...I am not sure when I have time to ponder. My schedule has grown kind of crazy. When I am not on the road, I spend a lot of time in the studio producing and OH...I LOVE IT! But, in prioritizing my thoughts, I have been thinking about the Hand of GOD in my life and in my family and ministry....How AMAZING and AWESOME it is and how it moves and WHAT I need to do to stay out of the way and let it. So many times we make plans for our life. BUT, here is the amazing thing...GOD has plans that far exceed our own. That’s right...His PLANS are WAY COOL! Ours are more than likely mediocre in comparison! I could not have even imagined God’s plans for our family. If it had been up to me...if I had grabbed the map and drawn out the route myself...It is likely I would have taken the prettiest route, but ultimately we would have ended up in downtown discontent. Actually now that I think about it....I have been in the city square....several times. You see...I often grab that map and redraw the route. And it is not that God takes His hand off of the wheel....It is that I nudge it away and begin to steer myself. God’s route may have some twists and turns....it might even take us in a direction we hadn’t planned to go. We might have to take in some painful scenery along the way. But....Oh when we get to the place he wants us to be....And when we are willing to let Him show us what he had in mind about our destination....What a WOW MOMENT! God is moving in our ministry. We are seeing many people some to Christ. It has been so thrilling. In addition, we are working with Compassion International and watching God touch through that effort. It has been AWESOME! All I can say right now is....I HOPE I CAN JUST SIT ON MY HANDS and LET HIM DRIVE! Visit our site at http://www.hopescall.com to learn more about Compassion (just click the link) and also to see the roads God lets us travel with HIM! Blessings Till Next Time! Donna

March Reflections

image

“Everyone’s Out of Step But Jim”.  If you haven’t heard of this old song, I’m not surprised.  My soon-to-be 92 year old mother told me about it, and I was amazed when I found the original sheet music one day quite by accident in an antique store.  It ‘s a World War I “ditty” that tells the story of a young soldier, a doughboy, whose proud mother could see only what she wanted to – that her uniformed son was marching in step and that the entire military parade around him was not. (Certainly a mother’s perspective.)

Why is marching such a big deal anyway and why does the military place such emphasis on it?  Marching is not for the benefit of the brass in the reviewing stand.  Marching is for the soldier’s benefit.  It is an aid to discipline.  The soldier must learn to listen and obey.  One man calls cadence and the entire company marches, turns, or halts upon his command.  Soldiers are even instructed which direction to look while marching.  Marching involves setting aside your sense of self to become conscious of unity.  An unruly bunch of recruits soon learn that if they ever want to make it out of basic training, they have to march, to listen, and be ready to obey.

Some struggle more than others with marching. Some young men don’t even know their left from right when they first enter the military.   I’m told  in some cases they may have a rock plunged into their left hand and told, “The foot that’s on the same side as the rock, put that foot down first.”  You would think that knowing left from right is elementary, but evidently for some it’s not.

Some marches require full battle gear.  It’s heavy and it’s hard.  I can’t even imagine walking around the block with that kind of load, much less walking for miles.  Yet, this kind of training is essential in preparing soldiers for conditions they may face in wartime.  If the sun shines, they march.  If it rains, they march.  If mud is ankle deep, they march.  If the wind is fierce and cold, they march. They march until their commander says it’s enough.

We have all seen the characterization of the stern-looking old gentleman dressed in red, white and blue. His finger is pointed in our face as he indicates that “Uncle Sam” wants us.  I can’t pass that sign without feeling a little intimidated.  I guess that’s the whole idea.

Friends, we have an enemy.  I Peter 5:8 admonishes us to “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”  Although the Holy Spirit bids us to come join the Lord’s army, we are not drafted, but must enlist.   It is our choice.   Those who “enlist” are issued a uniform, a garment of righteousness (Isaiah 61:10, 2 Corinthians 5:21).

We begin our “march” in the Lord’s army new recruits ill-prepared for the battles that lie ahead.  That’s why God commands us to put on the whole armor of God, and although “full battle gear” may seem burdensome to some, it is for our preservation (Ephesian 6:11).

Just as the soldier must keep in step, our Lord commands us to walk in unity.  Can you imagine the chaos if each soldier marched to his own beat and did whatever he chose?  There is no room for petty argument or division in the ranks and the Lord commands that everything be done “decently and in order”.  We are not to break rank, for the soldier straggling behind is easy prey for the enemy.

Our Commander directs our eyes to “Look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2).   Our eyes need to be fixed on Christ and our ears open to His every command.  We must listen for the voice of one, our Leader, for we are accountable to Him and unless He directs, we are not to turn to the left or to the right. (Deu. 5-32).

There may be times when we don’t understand and we struggle with doubt and confusion, but it is at those times that we need to hold on to our “Rock”, Christ Jesus, for he has promised to guide our feet.

We are to march whether life seems good or whether the storms of life have us bogged in the mire of circumstance.  We are to march even when life’s burdens seem too heavy.  We are to march when friends turn a cold shoulder and when this world’s winds of hatred blow hard against us.  We must march  until Our Commander says it’s enough and we take our permanent “leave” of this old world to stand before God’s great reviewing stand.

Until then, let’s MARCH!!!

Since Tim’s position with Vanderbilt Imaging was dissolved January 10th, he has been here at the house with me – twenty-four hours a day… seven days a week.  For those of you who don’t know me, I am one of those type of people who work well alone – in quiet.  For those of you who don’t know Tim, he is a social butterfly with ADHD!  He’s like a gnat on cocaine!  I thought the test that we were facing was trusting God for provision, but I am beginning to wonder if maybe I’m being pruned for some mission from God!  Then again, aren’t we all?

Now, before you think I’m being too tough on Tim, let me share with you one afternoon with this guy.  I am hurrying to get our tax information together to get our return done so Rachel can apply for her scholarship for college.  After Tim spent the morning on the computer sending his resume out to every contact he had, we went to the gym then came back to the house for lunch with Rachel.  Finally my turn at the computer, I was scrambling to get our receipts together for the accountant, but Tim had run out of things to do.  Tim is – in all honesty - a forty-two year old kid who needs extra work to keep him busy!  I had recently bought an inexpensive paper shredder for the office, so I thought I would give him a stack of old utility bills to dispose of.  He absolutely loves the paper shredder!  After about 10 minutes of the grinding and whining of that cheap shredder, I thought the top of my head was going to explode!  All of a sudden – aaaahhhhh - peace and quiet once again.  I continued typing at the computer while whispering a prayer of thanksgiving when I heard Tim ask, “Oh, are these the papers you want me to shred?”  Stunned, I looked up to see the pile of old bills in his hand!  “Tim,” I said, “What have you been shredding for the last ten minutes?”  With a sheepish look on his face, he replied, “The old coupons from the kitchen drawer.”  The thought crossed my mind, “Can I fit Tim in that shredder?”  Then I repented and just replied, “Lord knows we don’t want the information on those coupons getting out, Tim – the garbage man may see them.”

I AM on a mission from God – a “CO” mission!  Matthew 28:19-20… Ring a bell?  Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:  and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.  Amen.

till next time…
Sally

The McRaes - March

image
Hey Everyone,

I can't believe it's already March. It seems like the first part of the year just flies by!
We are doing great. We're still unpacking from moving to Nashville a couple of weeks ago. Moving is a JOB! All of us suffered from back aches, smashed fingers, cuts, and bruises. . .still trying to recover. : ) We praise God for opening the door for us to move. We lived in south east Mississippi (far, far away from pretty much everything smile) and had been praying about taking the step to move to Nashville. We prayed that if it was the Lord's will then He would have to open the door. . .and He did! Just another lesson in trusting that God works everything for good to those who love Him.

Wedding plans are going great! Just can't wait for the big day!!! People keep telling me that time between now and then will just fly by, but it seems like an eternity. I pray that those of you who are still waiting for the Lord to send them that special someone will be patient and never give up. Before I met Ricky I was ready to give up on finding who the Lord had for me. I just didn't really want to think about it or deal with it anymore. So I made up my mind that I would quit my worrying and just give it totally to the Lord. A couple of weeks later I met Ricky. I'm not saying that it's always going to happen that quickly, but my point is that when I learned to just let go and let God have it is when He saw my faith and knew that I was willing to wait as long as it took; if He was still preparing me for that person or if there was still something that I needed to learn or go through, whatever it took I was willing to take it. I believe that's all the Lord wants is a willing heart. "Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring [it] to pass." Psalm 37:5
