Projects and Anniversaries

image
We are working on our new project even as I write this article! So, I will have to be short and sweet this month. We have such writers as Rebecca Peck, Twila McBride, Sue Smith, Joyce Martin, Monty Criswell and Billy Yates contributing songs to this project. As well as myself and co-producer Donna Beauvais, co-wrote 3 songs along with my mother, Charmaine Massey. We have a wonderful blend of gospel music lined up with a strong message. We will be in Nashville this month for arranging sessions and will begin tracking the music March 1st!

Please visit our web site for current updates on the recording! Please keep us in your prayers over the next few months as we complete this CD.

We have a busy schedule lined up for 2006 and we have already been blessed to meet so many wonderful people! We are excited about the doors opened to us to minister the gospel thru song. We have really been blessed to be invited to do many youth events this year as well as group events such as Bikers for Christ. We have had several souls confess Christ at our concerts already this year and for that I am thankful.

Love is in the air and I am blessed to be married for 13 years to the most wonderful man. I had to go all the way to Houston, TX to find a husband but I sure did a good job! We have a wonderful little blue-eyed boy named Cameron who has also stolen my heart! I love my "two boys" so much and I am very blessed to be able to do what God has called me to do with the ones I love. Happy Valentine's Day!

Until next month!
God Bless,

Keep Walking

image
Many leaders in the Christian community seem to be on a common theme lately. There are a lot of sermons being preached and books being written: How to be Happy in an Unhappy World, Enjoying Everyday Life, Your Best Life Now, and so many other titles come to mind. These are not just “If you get saved, you’ll be happy” messages. Many of these teachings are being directed to Christians who should ALREADY be walking in victory! I wonder what it will take for us to be happy…

My nineteen year old informed me last summer that she would be happy if she could get a job. With her responsibilities with our ministry and with college, Tim and I were trying to do her a favor by letting her take it easy over the summer. (Those of us over twenty-five have begun to realize that summer vacations are never coming back!) Thinking her dilemma was money, I offered her six dollars an hour to build databases for me. This didn’t seem to do the trick. I was stumped – just what will it take to make a teenager happy? A car, a cell phone, her own room, college, friends… we have tried it all! I want all of you to know that I have found the answer! It happened one evening after supper... I had been doing laundry that day – our washer and dryer are down in the garage so I usually bring the laundry up into the house and put it on the couch to fold. I offered that same child a quarter for every dryer sheet that she could find under the couch cushions and she jumped up and whooped like she had just won the lottery! It doesn’t take a lot to make people happy, it just takes the right thing…

I heard a preacher recently ask, “How do you see your future?” I smiled as I realized that all the things I see in my future are things I look forward to! This same future was available to me years ago when I was unhappy. What changed my perspective? Well, if I could package, bottle, and sell it, I’d be rich! I tend to go back to one message that I heard Joyce Meyer make years ago. The message was… don’t keep putting a bunch of garbage in your life. Just allow the things of God in your life. Seems simple enough. But I was already a Christian, what else was there to do? What was the one thing that would make me happy?

Well, I began to make a few changes - I began to pour the Word of God into my life instead of checking Bible reading off of my daily list. I primarily watched Christian programming. I began to distance myself from relationships that I knew were pulling me from walking in the Spirit and I sought wise counsel. I gave up old habits. Instead of just pray – I learned to pray without ceasing! I began to “Walk” in the right direction by “Walking in the Spirit.” There was no magic formula - it was not an easy road – it has been years of painful growth, but it has been in the right direction! When you walk, you are constantly moving forward. (Unless you’re a hermit crab.) The right thing that will make us happy is a walk. A walk with the Lord that is steady – so steady - that even when tragedy strikes, you keep walking. When death reaches your family, you keep walking. When you lose your job, keep walking. When your friends betray you, keep walking. When nothing eventful is happening in your life, keep walking. And the toughest of all – when everything is going great – keep walking! Walking in the Spirit – that is the right thing!

Eighteen dryer sheets – $4.50.
Cost of a happy child of God – PRICELESS!

till next time…
Sally

It’s A Mystery

image
It’s A Mystery is an article from The Mystery Men Quartet and straight from the horse’s mouth, “Mr. Ed”, better know as Big Ed Crawford.

The Mystery Men are, as our new project says, ALIVE and WELL. The dates are coming in and we are so thankful. Our new single” Don’t Drive Another Nail”, is at the radio stations now and we are getting great response. If you have not heard us lately, check out our website www.the mysterymenquartet.com for a date near you. Come and experience the Mystery.

It is an honor to stand beside men who are dedicated and willing to be about the Father’s business. Their vocal abilities are second to none, but more importantly, they truly live the life they sing about. Our music is going everywhere and the response is phenomenal. People are coming forward for salvation, rededication, and just to lighten their load and give it to the Lord. Families are being reunited and we are seeing a mighty move of the Spirit.

I reorganized The Singing Americans in 1978, joined the Kingsmen in 1979 and in 2002 established The Mystery Men Quartet. After 30+ years of dedicating my life to gospel music, it is an honor to be able to voice an opinion from the artist’s perspective. Many topics come to mind that effect our industry. Probably the most sensitive topic is that of egos. In my ten years with The Kingsmen, God allowed me to fulfill a life-long dream, to sing for the Lord in a gospel quartet. I vowed then and still maintain that if I could help someone else along the way then I would do so.

The Kingsmen sang with many up and coming groups, some of which are forerunners in our business today. I find it amazing, however; that many have become so inaccessible to the fans. Some of the groups that once sang locally are now in the limelight and can’t see past the first row of seats, much less remember those who first listened to them. We all enjoy the accolades, but when are we going to stop thinking we are the stars and remember there is but one real star.

I just recently read a book entitled, “ It’s Not About Me”. What a thought. It is all about Him, the author and finisher of our faith. May we not forget from whence we came, and to where we are going. There will only be one star there. Will our earthly stardom really matter then? Have we become so self absorbed that we overlook those who may have the same dreams that we once did? Let’s extend our hearts, hands, and maybe even our experience to those who are struggling. Someone can always use a word of encouragement to help them get through the day. Be it another singer, songwriter, or fan, let’s help and not hinder.

A coach of mine once said, “Be nice to those you meet on the way up, for they will be the first ones you meet on the way back down.” I welcome your comments, since this is truly just one man’s opinion. Until we meet again on the journey, let’s continue to boldly proclaim the mystery together. Eph. 6:19

Waiting on God

image
Psalms 25: 4 & 5 Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

Waiting on God is undoubtedly painstaking and agonizing to say the lest. Our flesh is so eager to see results that we forget “Who” is in control! There is nothing we can do to make the will of God just happen in our life. There is no measure of pursuit that makes a sudden change in God’s timing. I have learned that lesson the hard way! For years I have pursued what I truly believed to be God’s will for my life. I wanted to sing. I wanted to write that phenomenal song that would reach number 1 on every chart available. Was I stupid?!

During the month of December and the first part of January, I spent some time fasting and praying and seeking for answers and direction for Song’s of Sharron Ministries. I went before God as humbly as I know how and asked God to show me His ways. I asked God to lead me in His truth.

During my time in prayer God began to show me the path in which I was to follow for this ministry. I assure you it was a calling I did not want to answer to. But every time I would pray I would feel the same tug at my heart. So, I finally died out to me and began to listen as God was leading me and teaching me what His will is for this ministry.

January 16th, I loaded up my van and headed for the highways and byways…. I was on my way to Lizella, Georgia, my first concert for 2006. I was talking with God all the way about this new avenue I was to travel. Not completely understanding what I was to do yet I did what I knew to do, I put my trust in Him.

The night of the concert January 20th had arrived and I was still talking with God about “His” will. A very talented local group called “New Harvest“, was to open for me. I thought great, this gives me more time to try and talk God out of “His” will. When I took the stage I began to sing songs like, “I Am Not Ashamed”, “Small Piece of Clay”, “Daystar” and “Not My Will”. ( Imagine that?) As I sang these songs God began to speak to my heart. God was showing me this ministry is not about me. There is nothing I can do that will cause conviction to fall upon a sinners heart. There is not one song I can sing that will encourage a soul to carry on. It has to be God! It is God’s presence that convicts a heart to repentance. It is the hand of God that carries a wounded soul through a valley or over the mountain. I am nothing but an instrument in which God uses to do His work. If He is not in control, what am I doing… not a thing!

I feel in my heart that I was obedient to God’s will that night and followed His lead for Songs of Sharron Ministries. I allowed God to show me His ways. I stood back and allowed God to lead me in His truth.
I shared part of my testimony and sang “My Best Friend” at the close of the concert. When I walked off that stage I knew without a doubt, the Lord is my best friend! I marvel at the grace God bestowed upon me that night in Lizella, Georgia. Allowing me the privilege to serve Him.

I have since received several comments from WJTG and from faithful supporters of southern gospel music in the central Georgia area on how much they enjoyed the concert. Many folks who were there hugged my neck and told me how much they appreciated my ministry. I am so grateful to all of you!

Thank you Tracy and all the fine folks at 91.3 Joy FM, Fort Valley, Georgia, for the opportunity to serve.

More than anything I want to be in the center of God’s will! My desire is to lift up the God of my salvation!

Do Not Fear

image
When God is about to do something "BIG" in our lives, He always says DO NOT FEAR !

Matt 14:27 Be of good cheer, It is I; be not afraid
These are the words spoken to Peter just before he stepped out of the boat and walked on water.

Josh. 1:9 Be not afraid, neither be dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest
At the same time Joshua was commissioned to cross over the Jordan and possess the land of Promise, he was told not to fear.

God told Mary "fear not" in Luke 1:30 as she learned that she would give birth to the son of God. From cover to cover of the Bible, men and women were told not to fear. Matter of fact, I recently learned that the phrases "do not fear," "fear not," and "be not afraid" are listed 365 times in the Bible. One for every day of the year. Why is it so important that the Lord would repeat this same message over and over again? Because He knows that fear is the greatest weapon that Satan has to use against us. Fear of failure, rejection, persecution, ect... If Satan can't get us to completely turn our back on God, his next tactic is fear. If he can make us afraid of something or someone, we'll do less than what God said to do. This is called compromise. Mediocrity.

What is fear preventing you from doing, saying, accomplishing? Are you walking in God's calling on your life? Do you still dream about your future? Are you a visionary? Or has fear stolen that from you.

In Acts 2 the Lord invited 500 people to go to the Upper Room. Fear of the unknown and being mocked held most of them back. Only 120 actually waited for the real experience.

Goliath mocked the Israelite army for 40 days before they found only one man brave enough to rise to the challenge.

Find out what is holding you back. I'll bet the root of it is fear. People that suffer from depression are fearful. Those that have a difficult time loving or trusting are afraid of rejection or being hurt. Fear of failure will cause us to turn our backs on our dreams.

What are you going to do this year that fear prevented you from doing last year? Identify it, then expose it -- it will lose it's validity in the light.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
This tells me that until we get rid of the fear, we can't walk in power or victory, our capacity to love will be diminished, and our mind will not function properly. I have witnessed this firsthand in my family. Fear has slowly consumed the life of my sister. This intelligent, attractive lady is no longer capable of functioning in society. She suffers from a chemical imbalance which is being corrected with medication. The Doctors have helped her physically, but they offer no hope for this spirit of fear that torments her. She is not able to work or live on her own. Her depression gets so severe that she is bed-ridden at times. Yes, she has a physical condition but we are told that as long as she is on the medication, she will be fine. She has been on the medication for 8 years. So how come she is locked away in her room at this very moment, robbed of relationships, a career, a life, and joy? Fear is a weapon of torture, and allowed to continue it begins to control our actions, our mind, our life. Most individuals will never get to the point my sister has but if fear is robbing us of anything it has a foothold in our lives and it's time to get rid of it.

Wanna know something funny? I was afraid to write this article. I had another topic outlined but the Lord kept impressing me to write this. Which lets me know that someone needs to hear this and receive this. Is it you?

If we conquer the fear, we conquer the enemy.
And remember, Satan only messes with those he's threatened by.

February Reflections

image
I can hardly think of February without thinking of my maternal grandmother. Odd as it may seem, she looked forward to February. She was a product of the Victorian era, an incurable romantic, and she loved Valentine’s Day. Although she loved valentines of every description, her favorite were the ornate, intricately cut valentines with their lacy edges and beautiful sentiments – the kind you only find now tucked behind glass and displayed in antique stores.

I guess I inherited my grandmother’s love of valentines; but as much as I love the ornate, no valentines ever touched me like the ones made by my children. They were red and pink construction paper hearts – heavy with glitter and dripping with glue, but the words they scrawled were heartfelt. One year they gave me a box of candy hearts. You know the kind – pastel, chalky candies with words of “love” written on them. Some said, "You're Special", others, "You're Cute", and still others hinted at a slightly deeper feeling – "I like you". But the one that always caught my attention was the one that said "BE MINE!" Be Mine. It was emphatic and to the point, with no hyperbole or fluff – just a simple invitation to belong. Those candy hearts were just as precious to me as any fancy card and I still have them today, 20 years later.

If you ask the greeting card companies, they will tell you that "Love" is a huge industry. Valentines Day is one of the busiest times of the year for florists and the candy empire thrives. But wonderful gifts as they are cards, flowers, and candy are not "love". They are merely symbols – symbols of an intangible, something you can't touch or even really describe.

It was this wonderful intangible I believe Grandma was longing for. Life and love had not been kind to her. At the age of eighteen, she married my grandfather, a widower twice her age with two young and difficult daughters to raise. Neither of my grandparents were Christians, and even though she bore him twelve more children, Grandpa's callous treatment of her told a tale of indifference. In all, she had cared for a husband and fourteen children and had little thanks or love to show for it.

For ten years she traveled no further than the mailbox at the edge of the road – not even to the nearest town five miles away. She communicated by letter, and even wrote to the doctor in town describing her children's symptoms and requesting instruction. She mourned the loss of two children who died in infancy, and for all the brood around her felt quite alone. The sight of dust swirling down the country road brought hope of a visitor or at least another letter.

Maybe that's why Grandma loved to get valentines from family and friends. It was a reminder that someone remembered her and cared.

How many people today are just like that. Whether slaves to sin or addiction or hopeless and brokenhearted, they feel exiled to their own lonely world. They think no one understands, no one cares, no one even remembers.

It was for these and all of us that Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice that forever portrays what love, true love, is, for "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13) He called us friends! And as each crimson drop of blood coursed down the cross and stirred the Judean dust, His arms were outstretched in invitation – "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28) His selfless act wrote the love message for all eternity inscribed in red, and The Cross is a symbol of His love for us.

I can't leave the story of my grandparents unfinished, for one day my grandmother accepted Jesus' invitation to belong. She gave Him her heart - broken and tattered as it was - and He gave her the love and acceptance she had longed for. Eventually Grandpa found the Lord, too, and Grandma prayed for her children each day that they, too, would accept His invitation. She ended each prayer with, "And don't let a one be lost" - and, you know, none has.

Then one year Grandma delivered her "valentine" to the Lord in person, for she was called away to be with Him one winter's day – in February.

"…Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away." (Song of Solomon 2:10) BE MINE!

May you know true love this season,

Janice Crow

Chord Charts & Arrangements

image

Hi everyone!

I have chord charts and song arrangements coming out my ears. The first recording session for the new Talley Trio project is next week, and we have collected several songs which I already can't wait to sing for you. The new release will hit the stores in June, (it doesn't even have a name yet) and of course I'll keep you updated on its progress as time goes on.

You will see a familiar face on TV very soon! Though details are minimal at this time, I will be taping a solo appearance on February 14th to air on TBN in the near future. I will send you a special notice when program times and dates are known.

Tickets for Singing in the Sun 2006 are now on sale! The date is April 26-29, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is the setting for four nights of concerts by the top groups and soloists in gospel music, plus a stirring message each night by some incredible evangelists. This event is very ministry-oriented while delivering plenty of excitement and entertainment. You'll enjoy spectacular performances by artists such as The Talley Trio, The Hoppers, The Greenes, Tony Gore, The Perrys, Signature Sound, Ivan Parker and many others. Tickets and hotel information can be obtained at http://www.rayflynnpromotions.com or by calling 1-888-238-6858.

The Talleys enjoyed being a part of the January Bible Study cruise to the Bahamas a few weeks ago. We sailed with America's top speakers such as Dr. David Jeremiah, Dr. Jerry Vines, Johnny Hunt, and Jim Henry, and groups including Greater Vision, Gold City, the Specks, the Reggie Saddler Family, and soloists Mark Bishop, Charles Billingsley and Amy Lambert. (Of course, the real entertainment started when several of us artists got together each night to play games.) We had a great week, though it's always a challenge to stand on stage and sing while the ship is rocking from side to side!

We have been trekking Texas and Louisiana for the last few weeks. We sang for a benefit for the Nacogdoches Treatment Center in Nacogdoches, (did I spell that correctly?) Texas, which treats Alzheimer's patients, and this cause is very dear to us because of our own family's experience with this disease. They do some wonderful work there, and thanks Mary Anne and girls for the hospitality.

Please keep us in your prayers, especially in the next few weeks as we begin recording our new album. Each project is a piece of our hearts and we have prayed for a long time that the songs will touch those who hear. Stay tuned....

Until next time,

Lauren Talley

Are We Rich Yet?

image
Hello from the Embrace family! Hope everyone had a great New Year's Day . Embrace had taken the month of December off for a little "R and R" with family and friends ( since Marci, John and Kirkland spent the time getting settled into their new home, their R's stand for "relocation and renovation") but we're back in full swing again. The Lord has blessed in each service we've attended as His people were renewed and refreshed as we worshiped together. His abundance is amazing!

Most of us here in the United States of America walk daily in abundance. For Christians, the freedom and opportunity to worship is a form of true wealth. Themass of Americans have plenty to eat, a home to live in, a vehicle to drive, and much more. Often we become so accustomed to these things that we forget to be thankful to God for them. We can become greedy for more and loose our perspective on how much is enough.

This has been an issue for Dane and me as we've been in search of a house with a little more room for our family. As we've toured house after house we've been amazed as to the scale of some of these mega-homes that are on the market today for the "average family". When I was growing up, the square footage in one of these monsters would have housed my family and the neighbors on either side of us. And how do we pay for these expansive dwellings? A recent financial survey revealed that over 50% of the homes purchased in America in 2005 were bought with no money down. They were either 100% financed or bought with interest only loans (which means you never actually pay for the house unless you can sell it for at least what you borrowed to buy it). This reveals the crushing burden of debt that many people, including some Christians, are living under.

God is very clear about where He stands on this kind of indebtedness, not because He is harsh with us but because He knows what heartbreak excessive debt can bring. Proverbs 22:7 says that "the borrower becomes the lender's slave." He admonishes us as a loving Father to take care that our desire for the things of this world does not crowd out His kingdom's work in our lives.

My husband is the financial person in our household and I'm sure he is scratching his head trying to figure out why God has placed this particular subject on my heart. Well, it's like this--The other day Stephen, our seven year old, was doing his math. He had added a column of numbers and had come up with quite a large sum. He commented, "If this were money, it would be a lot! I want to be rich when I grow up." My mother's heart was concerned remembering the scripture that tells us that those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare (1 Timothy 6:9). But almost instantly, young Stephen straightened as if he suddenly realized what he had just said. He spoke again, this time with a very serious look. "Actually," he said, " I want to be a nice man and have the amount of money that God wants me to have." I thanked God for His sweet Holy Spirit guiding the thinking of my young son. This episode brought home to me in a very real way that God is very concerned about how we view money because it speaks volumes about our hearts.

Sometimes human beings are a little like kids in the back seat on a long trip called Life. We're calling out every few miles, "Hey! Are we rich yet?" If Christ isn't the center of your life the answer to that would be no; enough is never enough. But for the believer, 1 Timothy 6:6 tells us "But godliness with contentment is great gain."

My prayer is that those of us who know Christ will ask for the same Holy Spirit guidance in how we use the financial resources God has given us.

Embrace asks that you remember Paul, Melinda and their girls as Paul is scheduled for hernia surgery on February 3.
