The Quicks - May 05

Don’t ever ask the Lord to show you what needs to change about your character if you don’t want to know! We had “7 days of prayer” for the second time this year at our church and I approached the Lord very cautiously with this request. Many of you might face the Lord more boldly with this prayer than I did, but I know me and I know there is a lot of work that needs to be done.

I am the type of person who gets down to the nitty gritty. I don’t have time for a lot of fluff, so conversations with me are usually direct. Some may call this blunt – I like to call it candid. There is a good reason for this character flaw! I am the youngest of four girls and was always the runt growing up – IF I got a word in edgewise, it better be good! I remember one incident that might put this into perspective. I was out playing with my sisters and some kids from the neighborhood on my first day of high school in nineteen seventy… uh, none of your business. While running across the yard, I stepped into a ditch and hurt my foot. I mean it hurt! A friend carried me home to tell Momma. She was on the phone with my aunt and told me to just go sit down. My foot was throbbing and had begun to change colors so I called Momma once again to come look. She continued to talk on the phone. I was getting scared so I again called out, “Momma, I think I broke my foot!” (I was being candid or blunt or whatever you want to call it!) Getting aggravated, she hung up the phone, came and looked, and told me to just put an ice pack on it. By the next morning, the inside of my foot was hanging in a very unusual position and was the color of old bread! Daddy took me to the doctor to find I had broken my foot in three places. You guessed it – I had to have it set and a cast put on it! That messed up playing basketball for a while!

Being honest and straightforward when we deal with people is a good quality, but it doesn’t have to be rude. Our character is tempered by our walk with the Lord. So should our speech. Finishing up a Beth Moore Bible study entitled “Living Beyond Yourself” – today’s lesson was on this very subject – self control concerning the tongue. (Imagine that!) A study on the fruit of the spirit contained the following scripture on self-control. James 3:1-12 tells of how difficult it is to bridle the tongue. A small bit is put in a horse’s mouth to control him; a small rudder is used to turn a large ship. Verse 8 says the tongue cannot be tamed. It is compared to a fire out of control. Our lesson had us compare a fire and the tongue. I first wrote the obvious: out of control (like a forest fire), dangerous (can do harm) but then I thought… is there a way for this to be good? Fire, in the right setting, can be a good thing. I recall sitting by the fireplace at Tim’s mom and dad’s house during our trips home for Christmas that sent a warm glow throughout the living room. I thought of my old gas stove in our trailer in Biloxi, Mississippi when we were stationed at Keesler Air Force Base that cooked those first meals I fixed for Tim. (That stove also warmed the house went the heat went out.) Fire, under control, can be good. The tongue – under control – can be good. I thought of the wonderful concerts I have been to – the songs that have been sung… the voice of the late Glenn Payne singing “I Won’t Have to Cross Jordan Alone” over the phone at NQC our first year there; Elaine Wilburn on her signature song, “Hand of the Lord”; Bro. Johnny Minick of the Happy Goodman’s featured on “The Reason,” and so many more come to mind. You may have a memory you would like to share of a song being a blessing as well.

My goal is to be a blessing – especially in what I say… and sometimes in what I don’t say.

till next time…
Sally

The Diplomats Quartet

image
This month’s Lamp focus is on Gospel Heritage Recording artist: The Diplomats Quartet of Carrollton, GA. The Diplomats Qt may sound like a familiar name – it should. The original Diplomats were a popular group back in the 60’s and 70’s! One of the original members was Jimmy Pearson. After singing full-time with several groups, he felt that it was time to revive the Diplomats name.

In the 10 years since the revival of The Diplomats Quartet, God has really opened the door for them to minister the Gospel not only in church events but many other types of concerts. The Diplomats have also become quite successful with their regional concert promotions in West Ga. Working with many of today’s most recognizable artists, they frequently have sell-out concerts!

Lamp Music president, and group producer, Mike Pillow said recently, “God is really blessing this group in concert . . . it’s been a long time since I’ve seen God use a group to captivate everyone in the congregation. From the first song to the last performed in a way that keeps people intently focused and then presented given the presentation of the Gospel! - - it really is incredible!”

In addition to handling the MC work for the group, Jimmy Pearson, is also an accomplished songwriter and has many popular songs that the Diplomats perform at every concert. Jimmy’s original songs have also been recorded by other quartets like the Florda Boys and others.

The Diplomats have also enjoyed a successful long-term relationship with Lamp Music Group starting with their Mountain Top Records projects dating back to 1999. The Diplomat’s Jimmy Pearson shares, “I have known Mike and Rhonda of Lamp for many years and we have seen, through God’s leadership, Lamp become one of the most respected labels in the industry . . . I have worked with many companies over the years, and Lamp treats us just like family. Plus God has also helped them build the best production facility in Gospel Music - - nobody knows PRO-Tools like Lamp!”

2005 has already been an exceptional year for The Diplomats - - Early in the year they signed an agreement with Lamp to produce their brand new recording, “Go Down To The River” on the Gospel Heritage Label. Their debut single shares the name of the project and features group member Corey Pearson on the lead. At radio now on the Lamp Sampler Vol 27, the new single is receiving tremendous airplay all across the country!

Each member of the group brings a special talent to the group to create the powerfull sound of The Diplomats. Group members include: Jimmy Pearson, Rita Pearson, Corey Pearson, Kevin Cooke, Lamar Newton.

Several great upcoming events are already on the schedule including The Diplomats 2005 Homecoming on June 18th at Fullerville Baptist in Villa Rica, GA. with special guests: Mark Trammell Trio and The Kingsmen Qt.

Call your local Gospel station and request the brand new single, “Down To The River”
For bookings and scheduling, the group is represented by Rhonda Pillow of the PCA (Pillow Creative Agency (770-832-0853)

Crabb Family - May 05

As we write this collectively, we have just come out of a Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday week of dates and are going into a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday week of dates before a long haul to Florida for a Sunday date. We, just like anyone else, have those times when we are tired and weary, but we keep pressing on. Just at those times God comes along and drops those “handfuls on purpose” to remind us of what He has called us to do.

One of those for us, was this year’s SoGospelNews Music awards. We were honored beyond our comprehension at this year’s awards ceremony. As we accepted the awards that you graciously honored us with, we could not help but reflect back upon where we’ve come from. Our road is paved with hard times, good times, tears, laughter, encouragement, criticism; the whole nine yards.

In one of our acceptance speeches, Aaron shared what the Lord had given to Him the previous week. He talked of how no matter what comes our way and no matter how hard we must fight, fight is what we must do! That is the Crabb Family’s renewed commitment- one we have to renew daily. Satan would love to destroy God’s children. He is after ministry. Our purpose is to spread the gospel. That is what we are going to do. On days when Satan seeks to destroy, we are going to fight harder. On days when the blessings overwhelm the difficult times, we are going to rest in the love of God knowing that He will care for every situation.

We’d like to say a great big thank you to Deon, Susan and all the folks at sogospelnews for all of your hard work. Thanks for keeping us informed. In addition we’d also like to thank our families, our road crew, our office staff, our booking agents, our management, our record company, and everyone who works so hard to help us out and support our ministry through product, concert attendance, and most of all prayer.. It takes a team to do what we do, and we have the BEST!!

Love,

Jason, Kelly, Adam, Aaron and Terah

Talley Trio - May 05

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to write this and get packed all at the same time, so don't be surprised if you see a list creep up in here somewhere. We are in the midst of the craziest month I can remember in a while, but hopefully I can stop long enough to tell you what's happening with the Talleys...

My newest solo project, I Live, is finally here! We have only had the CDs for about a week, but I've had the chance to try out a few of the new songs on some very gracious audiences, and they have responded unbelievably warmly. You can find your copy at http://www.talleytrio.com.

We just wrapped up the annual Singing In the Sun concerts in Myrtle Beach. We were honored to be a part of some awesome services, with many souls being saved at this event. This coming weekend takes us to the West Coast for the first time in a couple of years, to Fresno, California, for the Southern Gospel Fan Festival. This will be our first time to perform at this event, and we're looking forward to meeting a new audience and hopefully making some new friends. Of course I'll tell you about the Fan Festival next time, provided I have slept by then.

Don't forget to order your tickets for the Talley Trio's Smoky Mountain Homecoming July 22 and 23. All seating is reserved this year, and we are about half sold out as of this writing. You'll be hearing the Talley Trio both nights, along with Anthony Burger and the Mercy's Mark Quartet on Friday night. Saturday morning we'll be hosting a talent contest, with solo and group divisions, with some great prizes in store! Saturday night our guests will be the Booth Brothers, back by popular demand. Call 423-235-2916 or log onto http://www.talleytrio.com to order your tickets, or a package with special hotel/ticket deals. See you in July.

I have two more weeks of school left for this semester, and I am so glad. My dad is busy in the studio working on a new project for the Collingsworth Family, and Mom is busy being Mom. She does too much for me to fit in this space! We hope to see you on the road soon.

Until next time,

Lauren Talley

Hope’s Call - Apr 05

Hey Everyone! HAPPY SPRING! It is a thrill to get to write our very first Artist Article on SoGospelNews! We enjoy the website so much! It's great to get to be a little part of it!

We have had a tremendously blessed year and each month I would love to give you a little peak into what God is doing! I will never forget last summer when we toured with LIFT Student Ministries. There was a speaker named Tony Nolan. He was funny, interesting, and completely focused on what God was doing. He shared lots of amazing testimonies and every time he began to wrap up he said two words..."GO GOD!" I loved that! That is exactly what it is all about. So this morning, as I began my quiet time with God, He brought me directly to an amazing scripture about sharing the awesome things He has done! It's in 1 John where John tells us that testifying to one another about what God has done is a recipe for bringing JOY to our lives!

1 John 1:3-4 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things write I to you that your joy may be full.

WOW! Can you imagine what life would be like if we spent everyday talking about what God is doing? It would surely ward off alot of fear and discouragement! There is nothing but HOPE in the things of GOD!

Speaking of the things of GOD, we are absolutely blown away by what God is doing through the song we recently sent to radio called, "You are Loved." We knew as we sang it live, God was really using the message to minister to the hearts of people. It didn't take long for us to realize what an overwhelming need people have to hear that someone LOVES them unconditionally and forever! So, we sent the song to radio and God has taken it from there. We have received emails from people testifying how God has used this song in their lives and just as that scripture says...It brings us TONS of JOY!

One lady wrote that she honestly was on the verge of giving up. She had even tried to take her own life. But one day she heard "You Are Loved" and realized her life was important to God and that He loves her so much. She shared that the song touched her and she has made a turn for the better. Please just lift her up in prayer. God knows her name.

Here is a portion of another email we recently received: "HELLO, You do not know me by name, but I am emailing you with "hope." I recently heard your song "You Are Loved", and I was so overwhelmed by the words and powerful message it brings, and I gave my heart to the Lord."

And our response to all of this...."GO GOD!" We know it is HIS POWER that changes lives! We just get to come along and watch it all happen! We are so thankful for that!

So let's use this article this month to take a moment and tell what God is doing in each our lives! Feel free to use the comments section and go to town with a bunch of awesome testimonies! Or you can email us at and share what God is doing! Cannot wait to hear your "GO GOD" stories! And remember...

YOU ARE LOVED...

A Blast From the Past

An entry from the Crabb Family journal March 1995:

We just got home from our first "road trip" that took us down through Alabama and into Florida. It was Kelly's seventeenth birthday and we celebrated in high style. A small cake from Wal Mart and a couple of gifts from there. We were going to the Klondyke Center. They had a trailer on the grounds that we stayed in and showered. We didn't have to rent a room or get a truck stop shower. Praise God! The offerings have been small $100 one night, almost $200 another. We worked the Opry in Panama City for free, but sold really good....over $400! The kids got to go to the beach for a couple of hours. That was a treat. The old Buffalo (bus) has held up well....but how I wish we had some A/C in it. One day I made the kids get out and I hosed them off in a parking lot while Gerald got fuel....they didn't know it was coming and we had a water fight! We HAVE to have better transportation. It is very trying with no generator to power any TV, radio, or even GOOD lights at night. When we get a bus with A/C and a microwave...I will fall on my face and praise GOD!!! It is coming. All total, we have over $1,000 bring home from this trip. I am pleased. A couple of people had heard our songs on the radio...that is a good sign. Gerald says his goal is to have them sing along with every song (he has very lofty goals I think). I told him that would take lots of singles, and lots of airplay. We seem to be developing a few friends here and there. I am scared for the sake of these kids.....but I know what God said when HE made me the promise. I am going with that! Enough for now.
