The Dunaways - Feb 2003

The Dunaways
Does anyone need some encouragement? Read On! Are you feeling frustrated about your current situation and feel as if you have hit a brick wall head first? Read On!

Are your dreams just out of reach? Read On!

While you are reaching for your dreams, go ahead and "Delight thyself also in the Lord and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart!" By the way, while you are at it, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you."

What in the world does all of this mean? I believe every person goes through the experience of trying to figure all of this out. I sure didn't understand what God meant. I would just pray ok God, I believe, lay it on me, send it on down, and when he didn't, I walked in circles for years frustrated. Of course I am still learning, and I will never get it all figured out because God is so much bigger than my mind or heart.

Maybe frustrated is where you are living. If you will take the time to read this little testimony with an open mind and an open heart then I pray that God would speak to you and may use it to help you.

We cannot see into the future, but let's just pretend we could.

Let's imagine you are standing in front of two closed doors. The first door represents your dream for your life, the second door represents God's plan for your life.

On the first door there is a picture of you on the main stage at NQC thanking everyone for your fan award.
The second door shows you in a small country church handing out the Sunday morning bulletin for the next two years. Which one would you pick?

How incredible the yearning would be to choose door number one. So you open it only to find that behind that door was only another door that had the exact same picture on it. You are no better off than your were before you opened it. Before you know it, 10 years have passed and there you are in the same place.

What if you had chosen door number two? Let's open it and see! Because you were faithful and delighted to hand out the church bulletin as God wanted you to in the first place we find another door with a different picture. There you are with a mic in front of a crowd giving your testimony and singing a couple of songs.

As you are delighting yourself in God's plan, look there's another door! There you are ministering to a crowd of 2000 people at a campmeeting! Your are so happy and excited about all these doors and you remain faithful because you are learning that God has a plan for another door ahead!

Get the picture? This is how we follow God's plan. As we delight in it, we find ourselves happy and excited about what God has for us next. It is a process worth going through. As the process continues God may altar your dream to fit his plan and the result is joy and happiness. He is faithful to give you the desires of your heart! Just wait until you see what's behind door number 7! WOW!

Please pray for The Dunaways as we begin this month to work on our new Family Music Group project. We are so excited about this door of opportunity that God has given to us. 10 or so years ago for the first time, we chose to say no to our door and yes to God's door. It has been a sweet and precious process with each new door being just as exciting as the one before. There may not be fan awards in our future, but God has truly given us the desires of our heart. We are always excited and thankful about whatever God has for us to do next!

The Perrys - Feb 2003

The Perrys
Just last year I complained that I hadn't see enough snow. I am not complaining anymore. Here's my story.

Our weekend started a day earlier than normal with a revival with our good friend Bro. Jack Lassiter preaching. The location was Chester, SC. We had a wonderful meeting that night yet in the back of our minds was this question, "Will we really get the predicted 3-6 inches of snow?" "Naw" , we thought. These people never get snow.

We were scheduled to be in Rural Retreat , VA the next night. Our route would take us through Charlotte, NC, then to Statesville, NC, up Fancy Gap Mountain, to Wytheville, VA and then to Rural Retreat. They were expecting 1-2 inches and would possibly cancel the date. So, we decided to stop in at our good friend Rev. Randy Kivett's church parking lot and wait overnight until we heard from the promotor in Rural Retreat.

As we approached Charlotte, we started seeing some light snowfall. (Oh, by the way, let me say, that our new piano player from Jacksonville, FL had never seen the snow fall!) But that didn't stop us. We stopped at Waffle House for a late night Chicken melt and some good southern sweet tea. Still Snowing!

We drove on to Bro. Kivett's church and parked. Still Snowing. We were settling in for the night, looked out...about 1 inch of snow. Still Snowing!

At 8:00 AM the next morning, my phone rang. the promoter from Rural Retreat said he must cancel the date. Only about an inch or two of snow, but the high will only be about 15 degrees. I politely say that I am sorry, we will reschedule and I hang up. I walk to the front of the bus and look out. It has has stopped snowing, but we now have about 6-7 inches of the powderey white stuff. I can't believe it. i turn on the news and much to my dismay, Charlotte, NC is shut down. We are stuck. The temperature was about 13 degrees and would fall to about 4 that night.

We realized by late afternoon that we were going nowhere and had to call and cancel our next date in Hazle, KY. Oh well, let's make the best of it. What's the next best thing to singing? EATING!!!! I happpened to have my 4WD and Libbi, Justin and I went shopping. She bought us a big ole' roast with all the fixin's. She bought homemade cornbread. She bought coleslaw and macaroni salad. And to top this off, she bought Sweet tea. Now that was for our Friday meal. For Thursday night, she put together us a big ole' pot of vegetable soup. MMMMMMM!!!!! So back to the bus and to our crock pot, to put it all together. Now, let me tell you something, that girl can cook. We feasted like kings.

Well, I hate we didn't make those two dates but I sure did enjoy all of Lib's cookin'! We did finally get out late Friday evening and made our way to Muncie, IN for Saturday and then to Scottsburg, IN for Sunday. All is well! On the road again!

I woke up Sunday morning, looked out the window , "I CAN'T BELIEVE IT.....IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!

Until next time,

The New Plainsmen Quartet - January 2003

The New Plainsmen
Simply because of the vision we have for this ministry. We are currently picking songs for our fourth project, and the title?we don't know. No, no-that is not the title!! I mean we don't know yet what the title is. Anyway, this project should be available sometime in the spring, stay tuned-we will let you know. The year 2003 should also be a better year because it is a little closer to the Lord's return. So in saying that we expect more souls to be born into the Kingdom of God.

2003 will hold several great dates in which we sing at every year. Some of the annual dates in which we will appear at include Gilmer, Texas at Little Mound Baptist Church's Homecoming May 4th-Greenville, Texas for Lake Country Jubilee on May 17th-Gilmer, Texas October 17th and 18th at the Yamboree Gospel Stage and the National Quartet Convention in the month of September.

However, 2003 will also hold many new places along with making many new friends. These new dates include an upcoming date January 10th and 11th in Rockport, Texas. This 3-day event is put on by the Rockport City Police Department. Another great new date is February 22nd in Canton, Texas with host group Rose City Quartet. There are several new and exciting dates in which The New Plainsmen Quartet will appear at. Just stay tuned. Anyway, we sure look forward to coming to your area. All you have to do is contact me (James) at 405-222-0680 or e-mail me at and I will be glad to discuss any date with you.

I must mention two very good dates last month. We were invited to be a part of The Memorial Light Ceremony December 22nd in Waco, Texas. This memorial was held at Waco's Memorial Park. Regina Thornton and staff are to be commended for all they did to make this memorial a great success. The New Plainsmen were very humbled and blessed to be a part of this community service. I think this would be a great idea for other communities to do especially during the holiday season. While I am not sure of the exact amount of people in attendance, I estimate there were around 400 there. Let me say-the people, the lights and the love we felt were worth our trip to Waco.

The second date and our last 2002 date were in Kaufman, Texas at Cottage Heights Baptist Church. WOW, WOW, and double WOW!!!!! These people were ready for gospel singing. TEXAS-well, that's what Billy would say!! Tex-a-kin's-there's nothing like East Tex-a-kin's when it comes to loving Gospel Music. I suppose there were close to 5000 people there and what a great crowd. Well, maybe it wasn't quite 5000, maybe it was more like 500!! Hey, it's only a zero that we're talking about! Anyway, seriously this 500 seemed like 5000 and God's presence was everywhere. The best thing is that at least six people were saved just before the New Year rang in!!! Thank God for Salvation!! Well, The New Plainsmen Quartet look forward to all the great things that will happen in 2003. We also pray God will bless each and every one of you throughout this New Year. The Perrys - January 2003

The Perrys
Do they offer a medicine for the post Christmas blues? I can't bring myself to take the Christmas tree down. Carol and I have worked all year long to get to enjoy this year's holiday season and 1 month isn't long enough. And to make things worse, we both have to go back to work. I will be gone a lot during the month of January and Carol and has some pretty long hours as well. Poor old Baxter will be looking for a new home, I am sure.

I guess I should not complain. All of our families are healthy again this year. We were able to work and pay for the gifts that we bought. We were able to get into the car and drive to the store, to get the gifts that we gave. We were able to prepare food and treats for our friends who came by to visit. So, I guess I really have no complaints.

I have a wonderful wife and family. I have a wonderful home that's comfortable to live in. I have food to eat and a warm bed at night. I have a lot to be thankful for. You know, there's no reason to have the post Christmas Blues after all!

And no, I haven't made any New Year's resolutions. I quit making those a long time ago. I never could keep them.

In my heart though, I long for a closer walk with God. WOW! Isn't that what we are all longing for? That ever so close relationship with our Creator. A relationship so close that we can feel the very breath from his mouth and the warmth from his body.

But you see, we get so wrapped up! So involved in our earthly relationships that we just forget about the most important relationship of all! God the Creator!

Lord, in this New Year, help me to grow closer to you,
Help me to understand your ways,
Help me to be a Godly husband,
Help me to be a Christian example to those around me,
Lord, let me brighten someone's day
And most of all, I pray that my song and testimony would impact the life of
someone who doesn't know you!
Father, I am eternally grateful to you!!!!

Many blessings in the New Year,

Curt Davis

The Dunaways - January 2003

The Dunaways
Brand New! New cars, new clothes, New Year's resolutions, new recording projects, new houses. Oh how we love new things. But there is one thing in this life that is the best "new" of all. That is when God takes the old life that is heavy with sin and sadness and only by His miracle working power transforms the old man into the new man.

Once upon a time The Dunaways got a new home. For years we had just been wandering around trying to find fulfillment through our dreams, careers, or our friends, but all turned into broken dreams and sadness. We had been everything from successful to near starvation in search of that missing something that we couldn't seem to put our finger on. Might I add that in many of those years we were singing gospel music and attending church but that did not mean we really knew the one we sang about.

One night in hopeless desperation one of us cried out to God and he began doing a work in our family that led us all to full repentance. We buried our old lives in baptism with Jesus and He gave us a brand new life. We have never looked back except to remember and appreciate where God brought us from.

That was 1992, and at that time, because I had been guilty of the sin of selfish ambition in my life in the past, I personally made a vow before God that I would never walk back into a recording studio unless God himself made it very clear that it was His time and His perfect will. In 1996 God, in his wonderful loving mercy did just that, and we recorded our first family project. Our daughter Kanah was just 11 years old and she recorded her very first song.

When I think about the New Year, it reminds me that I am to die daily and walk in the newness of life. Apart from being totally crucified with Christ, I have learned from experience that I am absolutely no good to anyone in this life. Below are the lyrics to the song Kanah recorded way back when she was child enough to sing this. It was written when we were brand new, just born again babes in the Lord. We were so thankful that God was really real and had changed our lives.

I pray that everyone who reads this will have a wonderful New Year and be blessed greatly. We still have a single out there, "He Kissed My Heartache", and we appreciate all of you who use it for airplay. Our website is found at http://www.dunawaymusic.com

There once was a time when the skies were so gray
Hopeless dreams and bitter tears ruled our lives everyday
We never knew what tomorrow would bring
But Jesus has changed everything

I have a new mom, I have a new dad
My life is brand new not like the old one I had
I know what love is, Jesus has given this
Family a brand new home

Sometimes my brother smiles at me
When daddy gives mama kiss on the cheek
Our lives are so different a new song we sing
Cause Jesus has changed everything
